Those incredible local engines are still getting the job done out there.. Great coverage of the cars being set on the siding before heading out !!

nice vid... i was a switchman for the CNW/UP back in the early 90s...
i see one thing hasn't changed...the UP is STILL changing the road numbers on their units... OFTEN...
when i worked there it was impossible to keep up with the number changes...
it got so bad that they ran out of number combos... that's when they came up with the "UPY" number series...
doing that freed up a lot of numbers they couldn't otherwise use

@@25mfd I wondered about the UPY. I was thinking it was a yard unit maybe. I worked for 4 different railroads. My last one was the CP/DME. Thanks for sharing.

*I wondered about the UPY. I was thinking it was a yard unit maybe.*
yep it is their yard units... according to railroad picture archives, they have 974 "UPY" motors...
all together the UP has *14,942* locos...
sheesh, i couldn't even imagine trying to keep up with that many locos... what a nightmare LOL

@ I worked at Knoche and went to Neff often in KC and that yard was full of locomotives all the time.
