The Tehachapi Pass, where Bealville is situated, is known for its challenging terrain for railroads. Here are some key points about the grade in this area:
• Western Slope: The maximum grade on the western slope of the pass, which includes Bealville, reaches up to 2.3% for about one mile east of Marcel.
• Bealville to Tehachapi: Most of the line between Caliente (near Bealville) and Tehachapi maintains a grade between 2.1% and 2.2%.
• Eastern Slope: On the eastern side of the pass, the maximum grade is 2.2%.
Bealville Specifics
Bealville itself is a significant location on this graded section:
• Elevation: According to a 1982 SP timetable, the elevation at Bealville (around MP 340) is 1,740 feet.
• Siding: Bealville features a 13,270-foot siding, which is the longest on the west slope of Tehachapi.
Coming down that pass heading west in a big truck is a pain in the ass as well, especially when we're dealing with 7-8% grades.
nice collection of trains! Great sound.
Thanks
Hearing those trains climb the grade was epic. The units one that second train were smoking like Alco's, lol 😂 Good stuff 👍 I just subbed btw 😉
Excellent, nice camera work !
Some great shots there, greetings from the UK.
Thank you very much!
I love watching at Belleville and Calista
Great video!
Thanks!
great video 😍😍❤❤
Appreciate it!
Very nice video 👍
Thanks!
This was so much cooler when the SP ruled this area! Tunnel motors, mid helpers and a caboose or 2. Railroading had just become very stale but, my opinion only
Very true
@ sorry for being sour….your video is still very cool and I’m glad I saw it! Wish I had made that clear in my comment! Bealville had always been an interesting part of the west railroad world and still is! Unique as can be!
Great Video Thanks I Love ❤ Trains 🚆 😊
Glad you enjoyed
Fantastic opening shot. 5711 & 8711 bookending the power there. Meanwhile that other train smoking 🚬 away quietly.
Yes that other train was dumping out exhaust for over an hour while we waited for the other train
Impressive video that really provides a good appreciation for the local geography challenges that the original railway builders had to overcome. How unfortunate that it also shows the visual horrors paint-sprayed on railway cars by graffiti vandals. 2025/01/04. Ontario, Canada.
Thanks man and yes the graffiti seems to get worse everyday
You are right about Graffiti, to me it just ruins the railfanning experience. Tag after tag after tag. What absolute Dog S-t. I wonder if these idiots tag their own property or automobiles that they own or rent. Why not? They are tagging everything else.
Great done video :)
Thanks!
Great video! Love the lead Unit! Come see lucastrainverse!
Will do!
@@thehighiron Thanks! I liked and subscribed!
5711 has a different 3 chime horn. Made me wonder if it's a salvaged SP horn off a scrapped loco.
Could be
Good Video 🚂🚂🚂🚂🛤🎳🍖
Thanks
8:18 an ac not 6000
That honk sounds cheap
Probably is lol
I hated coming down this hill in my big truck.
Especially when we were dealing with 7-8% grades between Caliente & Bakersfield.
That would seem sketchy
