    I've owned the Hasselblad X2D for months now, and until a couple of weeks ago was getting by on one lens only, the 55v. I've got the 28P now and look forward to a review of that soon, once I've a body of work together for it.
    As a full time photographer my insights are based on hours and hours spent with the gear, so there's personal opinions here as well as the results of jobs shot on it. So check out the video and get a quick tour of this lens and whether it belongs in your camera bag.

    I have been building my Hasselblad system slowly but surely due to budget constraints. I got an excellent used X1D II with a 45P to start with. I was sold at that point. I then found a new 75P and snapped it up. Then a 28P which I love doing Xpan. The 45P was the odd man out since it was an older lens in style and 67mm filter. I found a nice 55V to replace it and traded the 45p on it. Now I have a nice compact kit and camera bag. I can cover anything and everything I want with this set of lenses. Based upon your review is one of the reasons I made the 55V my first and most likely only V series lens. Appreciate real photographers who use Hasselblad for their work giving honest opinions and analysis.

      Glad people are watching! The 55v is my favourite still. The 28p i've actually traded in for an older 21mm f4 - just needed a proper wide angle. Looking forward to running it in..

    Hi Phil, great concise review! You always get straight into the important information and it’s very refreshing among all the waffly sponsored review videos on UA-cam these days. Thank you for making the time to do this channel!

    I've owned the 45P, 38V, 65mm, 90mm and now the 55V. Sold all the lenses except the 55V. It's a beautiful lens with amazing results and makes for the best one camera, one lens setup.

    All of what you say about the 55V is true. I have the lens, bought it for the same reasons, get the same results and find it a great all around lens. The detail is so good it can be blown up/cropped making it a psuedo-tele. The color and IQ are just great with the X2D XCD 55V combo. Yes, it seems a very good starting point. You covered it all, Cheers.

      Very kind, thanks! Even so I need that 90v to show up - for lifestyle work it's just a bit easier composing it on a frame more closely resembling 60mm than 40mm. It'll show up eventually. :')

    Just over a year ago, I was about to order the X2D when I saw that Hasselblad was offering (for only about two weeks) the X1D II packaged with their 45p lens for the unbelievable price of $4,100 USD. This was a great opportunity to try my first mirrorless camera - so I jumped on that deal. Although I still love my three D850s, this Hasselblad was amazing! I now love taking the X1D II out on my RRS tripod, carefully manually focusing and composing my shots, and capturing that great Hasselblad color. I own the 45p and their 80mm f/1.9 lenses. Studio portraits are absolutely breathtaking! I am now ordering the X2D - but will also keep my X1D II.

    The 43.5mm full-frame equivalent "normal" focal length is very nice for general use, that's for sure. And it's not too long or too heavy. If you could only get one lens, I can see why a lot of people might pick that one.

    Great review, those colours are beautiful. Today by chance I wrote two lists-all the GFX focal lengths and Hasselblad focal lengths to see which lenses would make a 2 or 3 lens landscape kit. The Hasselblad 55V was the first lens on my wish list. I had a Bronica PG 80 f3.5 lens with my GS-1 film camera (40mm equivalent). I miss that lens so much, I sold more photos taken with it than any other lenses, so agree 100% that a "relaxed 50mm" is an excellent choice as an all-round lens, but of course another 1 or 2 lenses would make a fantastic kit. For headshots, I personally prefer focal lengths of about 85-100mm (Full frame equivalent), the distortion is really noticeable, even when framing big and cropping in with the 55V. Now I just have to work out how to pay for Hasselblad lenses and camera.

    • @PhilTragen
      @PhilTragen  7 місяців тому

      I agree cropping into the 55 is a workaround - with portraiture it’s a bit too wide for upright shapes but the landscape shapes feel pretty nice. I’ve got a 90v on the way sometime, so I reckon that’ll take over that side of things.

    Using the X2D mostly for fashion and beauty. Coming from the H6D, this is so much smaller and easier to use for all day shoots. I love the 55 and the 90, but I also hang onto my HC120 macro lens. That’s an amazing lens for portraits. It renders gorgeously on an X2D sensor.

    • @RamonVaqueroImage

      How does the focus perform with the HC120? Do you think it's a good option to the XCD120?

    • @jacobh5817
      @jacobh5817 7 місяців тому +2

      @@RamonVaqueroImage the focus of the HC120 on an X2D (or X1D) is much slower compared to the native XCD120. I personally use it most of the time in MF mode, so it doesn’t matter that much. Technically the XCD120 is also a bit sharper compared to the HC120. However, for a portrait lens ultimate sharpness is less of a factor. To me, rendering and tonality are more important. The HC120 has plenty of that. I can imagine though, that if you own neither of them, you would buy the XCD when looking for a 120mm. Having said that, HC lenses are now sold at relative low prices, when you buy them pre-owned.

    As a Pro using 2 X2D's and the 907XCFV100c - we can confirm that Hass is a significant improvement in ergonomics over the old H6D100c which we loved - but the new X series does not compare image wise - you just can't beat that sensor - not even Phase One which we used to own - however the new 2.5mm lenses are extraordinary; we have two of each and the 38mm is permanently strapped to the 907 -and can often be found shooting down overhead - interestingly the 90mm showed more than double the NITs in a test to any other lens previous tested - it is therefore recorded to be the sharpest lens in the world - now can we have zooms please Hass - agree the 55mm is the ONE to have

      I am a professional landscape photographer and often print to 5 feet. I am currently invested in the H system. H4D-60 and H5D-50C and the full complement of H glass. Are you saying the IQ on the H6D-100 is superior to the X2D? Some of my best results are with the larger sensor which the H4D-60 has (CCD). I am on the fence about pursuing the H6D-100 or trading in my kit for the X2D system. Your real world experience with both in mission critical applications would be immensely helpful. Speed and auto focus and the like are of no concern, everything is shot on the tripod. Thanks in advance!

    Phil, first time I've watched your channel. I've owned the X2D for about a year and half now (owned the X1D and X1Dii previously) and I own 5 lenses (XCD 30, 45, 65, 80 & 135 w/TC) . I decided a few months ago that I needed the 55 to fill in the gap and try out this new series of V lenses, so I bought one. After trying it for week, I returned it to B&H. The images just weren't sharp. I don't know if it was a focus issue (I used a lot of manual focus) or an internal lens alignment issue and can't really say it wasn't just this lens but, hey, for that kind of money I expect it to work properly right out of the box. Hasselblad makes a big deal about "hand made" but give me an automated production line every time. I come from that world and robots never have a bad day! Don't get me wrong, I love the X2D and Hasselblad did a fabulous job designing it but their production capability leaves a bit to be desired. Nice video!
