- We're stepping a bit out of my normal wheelhouse today to discuss another very wordy game I know my audience also likes to see if I should try making more content on it in the future! It's time for some friendly competition on the beach in Final Fantasy XIV, and I'm interested in who will be on our team and who will be our opponents.

I've been subscribed for a long time for your Xeno content, but XIV is also one of my favorite games of all time, I'm literally working on a TEA reclear for some friends this month so I like it at least enough to be doing stuff like that. I'm very excited for Dawntrail, as the MSQ is my favorite thing about XIV apart from the raids, so seeing you make a video echoing a lot of my own thoughts about what seems like the direction Dawntrail is going to go was really cool. I'd love for you to keep making things like this if that's what you really want, and if you do I'll most likely watch and enjoy each and every one.
I added this video to my watch later thinking it was by syndionicscribe or stout helm and had the playlist on auto while doing chores. Imagine my surprise when I heard your voice instead.
I don't know a whole ton about FF XIV, but I love that Ivalice exists and that there are Viera, and I also love that there are characters named Krile and Galuf. I knew there was a lot of love for older FF games in XIV, but the individual instances of it still make me smile. (I've gotta assume that the moon stuff from a while ago has plenty of FF IV references as well)
My guess is that the arc of the expansion will go something along the lines of
-Team A and Team B get separately invited to help candidate A and candidate B
-Meet up in Tural, "What, you're helping the other guy? Well, don't think I'm going easy on you just because we're friends!"
-Friendly competition leading up to a final battle for the throne which may or may not happen
-Big Allagan doomsday machine/some other big threat emerges, candidate A and B team up to fight it, bringing the Scions back together
-Usual shenanigans

As a Xeno and XIV fan i am perfectly fine with having XIV contemt every now and then
Thing is I originally subscribed to your channel because I'm a Xeno fan, but then you also got me to play the trails series and I also started playing FF14 around that time. Then later found out you also play FF14 so yeah I'm all for you also making FF14 content (though ofc I also want more Xeno and Trails content)
You mentioned Y’shtola being blind but she can read books and see objects from their ambient aether!
I would love more xiv content! This was fun to listen to. Would be fun with more speculation content as well for future updates.
Minor clarification. Krile received no letter. It is an old letter addressed to her grandfather from Galool Ja Ja. However she would be going anyway I suspect. Just not sure how specifically.

In ShadowBringers, Thancred, Y'Shtola and Urianger all got new jobs so its not one Scion changing jobs per expansion.
I also think we'll see the female Hrothgar be a Viper during Dawn Trail
I agree with the early point that this probably won't be drawn out the whole expansion. I think it wouldn't be very surprising at all if we're working toward the same goal but choosing opposite sides of the succession contest to gather more intel.
I feel like Legs is a juvenile Hrothgar and is seeking our assistance in the succession because she isn't being taken seriously as a candidate. That would explain why she is able to leave the country to directly seek our assistance.
24:00 Lapis Manalis kind of drew a link between void gates and Ceruleum. Wouldn't be surprised if the abundance of Ceruleum in Tural has some kind of connection to void gates. I suspect her interest in going to Tural is purely academic.

I was glad they added Gaia to the MSQ, it would have been such a waste to leave her in the side quest limbo.
I dunno if they've already made the Eden series mandatory (like they eventually did with Crystal Tower for example) but I can only assume they'll at least treat it as cannon going forward since it's like the whole reason Ryne is studying plants and whatnot in the first place. My guess is that, solely based on personalities, Estinien and Alisaie would end up opposite to the WoL, and maybe also G'raha as well. The former two seem like the type to be excited about the opportunity to try themselves against you, and the latter has just always been so closely linked to the WoL that it would be novel to have them in an "opposing" role. I think that Urianger and Krile would be with you because there's not really much to get out of them being in opposition. Which I guess also kinda implies Y'shtola on the opposite side (due to being "the character closest linked to Urianger). No idea about Alphinaud or Thancred, though.
Not going to lie, the WoL and Estinien versus the rest of the Scions would be very funny. There's practically no shot that that's the case, but I sort of wish it could be.

The splitting I was thinking was archons/students of baldesion with krile vs the rest with Erenville with maybe splitting up alphinaud and alisaie as well.
the thing that's got me curious about the divided scions bit was Yoshi-P asking the UK audience which scions they'd like to be on their side, so hopeful speculation would be that we'd get to choose which scions we have with us, at the very least we'd get to choose which group we run with. it really felt like the question was a clue to how the concept of splitting up the scions would work.
There is also the potential that the teams are something like Yshtola/Estinien/Alise, Thancred/Urianger/Alphinaud, with us, Krile and Erinville acting as reffs. Perhaps legs doesn't have a horse in the race, grabs us, Krile and the twins in sharlayan to arbitrate. We send the twins to meet up with the scions, and they get drafted on a team each, our customary "go to each zone" before the first dungeon move. First two dungeons are part of this challenge to establish us in local politics, and the 93 trial is Golool Jaja for a friendly spar.
We might also see the scions split on different lines, like tradition and nature vs progress and technology (which would be different then my booked teams), since we were told that was an issue in one area.
I assume there is cross over between FF14, Trails and Xeno fans anyway.
Based on how UA-cam does algorithm stuff i doubt this did well. But as a lober of both 14 and xeno I 100% would watch those videos if you made them.

When you started talking about "Meteor", I went "who?" for a moment until remembering that that's the canon name of Derplander (who WILL stay Derplander for me :P). I'm a long-time FFXIV fan and joined the Xeno fandom with XC2, so if you're covering both, fine with me ^^
The WoL going against Raha would be an interesting twist and could really help to flesh him out further. And for the siblings, I guess their pre-EW selves would have loved to bash each other, but I'd say their joined work in Garlemald did wonders to their relation and fused them together again, so it's rather unlikely that they'll be split up. For the rest, we'll see ^^;

All I want is a 1v1 against Estinien with a different cutscene if you lose. It’d be boring if you HAD to win, having the possibility of losing makes it way more fun.
If they go with the child candidate hopefully Alphinaud is with them. He could help them learn not to do a Crystal Braves.
I can see the split not being something that remains the same the teams each time. I can see someone jumping to the other side and vice versa as it goes. I do think WoL will end up on the side with the least scions to give room for new characters while having 1-2 people we do know being on our side with room for interactions with the other scions even if going against our goals. I could see a scenario where the WoL is going solo or near solo against most of the other scions. A sort of 'we are the boss' scenario which could lead to WoL verse Estienne showdown (or it being it's own fight).
I do feel just given the WoL being the savior of the world the side we will be on is more the underdog and if there is some 'younger heir' it would make sense we would end up fighting in their place as their representative.
As a Xeno, XIV, and Trails fan, I'll be eating good on Luxin content.
As for our sides, I'm personally hoping the twins will split up, Alisaie to prove herself to us, and Estinien on the other team to test Alphinaud as well. I personally want Yshtola on our side (because I ship her and my WoL), but the idea of Archons vs us is interesting. Graha I would also like on our side since we haven't had a proper adventure with them yet, but them growing to view themself as our equal against us is such a good idea.
A theory I've seen on the Alphinaud being hidden part is he has gotten his own archon mark finally, or some type of special forum recognition. (Speaking of which I would like the chance for our character to become an archon as well, maybe have it tied to a very long questline in the patch content, such as the relic weapon and finishing it will be our way to get the archon mark. At the very least we know they aren't opposed to crossing over relic questline with other stuff, since Hildibrand in EW)
My WoL has several jobs I view as canon for them, coincidentally the scions also took up those same jobs. I would say the main two are Dragoon (Azure Dragoon rivalry with Estinien) and Samurai. Viper is very likely going to be a job they pick up, and in a way being a hybrid for both of their mains styles, which I find neat.
I wonder if maybe Y'shtola will be there not too much for the MSQ but for the Alliance Raid? Say Vanadiel is another shard rather than another country, it could be that Sassy CatQueen is the major NPC to link us to Vanadiel. Then we get Y'shtola vs Shantotto in a Black Mage battle for the ages

I love XIV just as much as i love xenoblade so if you do decide to make more XIV content in the future I wont complain :P

As a Xenoblade fan aware of FF14 being a great MMORPG (and played FF16 to know Yoshi-P’s game dev approach). Isn’t this FF14’s One Piece expansion?
I'm not caught up on one piece yet, but from what I know about it (it basically being about exploring the grand line while also figuring out the mystery of the world and its history, expanding the fleet and fighting global government) this really isn't gonna be about that. FF14's "lost history" was already dealt with in previous expansions and so was the empire (not really a world government but the biggest enemy force basically) the main group is also always bolstering their size every expansion so that's also not something new. Exploring new lands was also already a thing in all previous expansions. So basically I can't see how it would be one piece like.
Also in general I wouldn't compare FF16 and FF14. They really aren't similar in anything except that they use the same engine and that their sidequests are mainly used as world building to explain stuff about areas in the world (and ofc that both take place in a final fantasy world). Other than that neither their gameplay, nor their story, nor their way of storytelling is really similar at all. (Or at least not any more similar than they are to other FF games)
