There's a really clever touch here. In the original Hyadain cover, the lyrics are in the pattern of Scarmiglione+Cagnazzo and then Barbariccia+Rubicante, matching up with the order they appear in that game. In XIV, the order is a bit different, so in this version of the song they have it so Wind and Earth are paired instead ("Earth befouled, fierce winds howl") and Water and Fire too ("Flames consume, tides subsume") and they stick to that pairing through the whole song, matching the way they're paired in XIV. Super creative, love it!

I don’t know who they get to write the lyrics to a lot of their songs but so many of them go so hard. Always a combination of great character relevance, well written language and catchy as hell.

It's insane for me to think that this song would've never seen the light of day if FF4 game designer haven't seen FF14 doing remakes of Barbariccia and Scarmiglione fights and never decided he should write lyrics for "Battle with the four Fiends" and if someone at SE never had a moment of sheer genius remembering that old fan cover and suggesting they should contact the author to help them do a new version.

Little fun fact about the arena and background for the Archfiends:
The four archfiends are named after demons in Dante's Inferno, being 4 of the 12 members of a gang known as the Malebranche, who guard the fifth Bolgia of the Eighth Circle of Hell. This is where people who try to get rich or positions of power through immoral means (think blackmailers, land speculators, and politicians) go, where they're forced to swim in a pool of burning tar, and it's the Malebranche's job to prevent anyone from leaving it by stabbing anyone who escapes with barbs and hooks.
so in this fight, Rubicante is quite literally opening a portal to hell, possibly to drag you into it.

Like with utlima and many other 14 songs the chant is actually random nonsens, and the lyrics are retroactivaly written for it to match the singing at least that is how it seems to me

The lyricist, Takashi Tokita, was Squaresoft part-time staff for the first three FFs until he became lead designer for FFIV. He went to work on future projects like being director for Parasite Eve, Live A Live and Chrono Trigger. He is now a senior manager and producer in SE's Business Division 8.

I haven't done the fight yet but this song threw me for a LOOP, the Hyadain cover was basically gospel to me as a kid. I heard the violin in the beginning and I was 10 again... Mad respect for them bringing Hyadain straight on for this

I sang a turbo speed piece in competition once. The key is practice. The "god" part is "do you have the range" which is mostly something you're born with. It can be increased with practice, and technique can be taught, but like any musical instrument, you must hone it with persistence and patience.
[eta] We were runners-up in said competition.
I started singing along at .5 speed then eventually got the hang of it and recently it paid off on a roadtrip when my friend looked at me in shock cause he didnt think this song had real actual lyrics.

So Scarmiglione, Barbariccia, Cognazzo, and Rubicante are all from The Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri (so is Beatrice from The Fell Court of Troia, I was really struggling to remember her from FF4 before I remembered this), so I gotta give a tip of the hat to Soken for thinking to make the vocals for this FF4 track sing in the style of Italian Opera.
Wait, that's where the original names are from? I thought it was random keyboard mashing during FFIV's creation and they went "yeah, this'll work."

Huzzah, I've been looking for like two weeks straight for this with lyrics! Some of the rapid fire lines definitely show off that Hyadain influence.
Though lines like "save your tears, face your fears, in despair you will find no safe harbour. Dare to stroke the fire in your soul, make keen your blade. Stand fast or die bereft of honor." is both equal parts inspiring and daunting

Coming full circle with Hyadain actually composing an official remix of the 4 Fiends theme 14 years later was such a crowning moment on this awesome story arc and fun dungeons/trials. I just feel so moved, this remix sounds incredible, and I kept cranking up the volume between aoes XD

Wasn't sure if this song had actual lyrics, but it does, and they're just badass. They tell more of the story and are lines that really enforce that sense of challenge and resolve. I'd want this song to be the song that plays when I go into battle. XD

I was hoping for a long time to see FFIV stuff in FFXIV, especialy the four elemental fiends. And I really did hope the music would be as similar as possible to the Hyadain version but I thought it was merely impossible. Damn. What a good surprise!

Really nice editing Mr Chad, good stuff. You synced it very well and the intro was particularly good. Simple, but effective. I like the no-ui play with good shots of the scenery as it changes too.

I don't know if its a coincidence or if its intended, but I love that Forged in Crimson and Scream which are both from Endwalker mentions that "the gods wouldn't hear the WoL's cries". And we do see the gods in the new raids. I wonder if there's some connection there
This song was a huge part of my childhood. And Rubicante was the first boss I ever respected.
Underrated part of this song, the first few seconds luring you in to a "oh okay i guess were just doing a battle against the 4 archfiends theme again" and then it hits you with the GOTCHYA. similar to how p5-8 starts with the non lyrics version of scream for the first one and you're set up like "oh okay i guess it will be 3 orchestral and then the final boss will be with lyrics , like in the first wing" and then they turn it around and raise the stakes, smacking you with a hemitheos AND the lyrics version right on the 2nd fight. very clever meta use of music there
What's great is that the music is literally taken from the cover just with extra instruments and different vocals/lyrics.

i've read the comments here and when i first went into this a few days ago i did not know who "hyadain" was or that they made music, or even that these elemental fiends were in reference to a previous ffxiv game
so the fact that i thought this was an absolute banger should tell you all you need to know about how good it is
simple truth is that i was absolutely wowed when i heard this playing during the trial. it was so good i got distracted while healing

This is easily one of the best fights and songs in Endwalker.
The song is great, but the fight is the worst of any extreme or savage released in the entire expansion so far imo, it’s just 80% follow the leader, 15% mechanics we’ve seen before and a limit cut style mechanic that any good group can skip
I have him as a mod replacing Phoenix as Summoner, and man is it fantastic. Freaking love Rubicante's design, and man, this theme! Took the original boss theme that was already fantastic and turned it up to 11!

I really respect how much of the Extreme mechanics they show in the Normal for these fights.
1:55 Waitaminute. Is this part referring to Golbez? I clearly recall him monologuing "hereon I shall walk alone" in the cutscene right after the quest now that his Archfiends are gone. I mean yeah, _Endwalker_ is literally the name of the game, but in the context of Rubicante's final battle the allusion seems a little more targeted. I get the sense these lyrics have some meaning that will not be obvious until a later update.
Could be an allusion to so many things in Endwalker and beyond lol
It could also be a reference to Mount Ordeals in FFIV where Cecil had to face his inner self alone and defeat his dark self to become paladin.

It really helps muddle the comprehension to make it sound mysterious and archaic.
