      Did you replace the head gasket? Did you use the correct one for the block? The 2.0 head gasket has a oil restrictor built into it. The 2.2 block has the oil restrictor built into the block. You don't want to use a head gasket that matches the head you want to use a head gasket that matches the block

    I have mine set at .003 because some video on youtube said to. Everything is new. Rebuilt engine and even a new cylinder head. It has a serious loss of power trying to go up a hill. I'm thinking I need to follow what you did here. It does feel like I have a loss of compression. I thought the clutch was slipping so I replaced the clutch, flywheel, slave and master. The only two things I can think of is the valve lash or an adjustment on the weber but it seems to do great going down a hill.

    I installed a reman head from O'Reilly's on my B2000 2.0L. The valve rocker assembly hardware was suddenly slightly too long for this new head. The holes weren't bored as deep as the factory head I was replacing? (No gunk or debris in the holes) Have you seen this before? I ended up grinding about one millimeter off of the length of the bolts I had and it fixed the issue. Is this a year to year replacement quirk? A B2200 to B2000 difference? I have found nothing to explain this problem I ran into.

    Why do you recommend changing the camshaft as well as adjustable rockers from a 2.0 to a 2.2? Is the 2.0 cam casting harder?

    • @MazdaMitch
      @MazdaMitch  Рік тому +2

      I may not be understanding your question, but I think you asked it backwards, let me explain the simplest way I know how. There is nothing wrong with hydraulics lifters. Some owners neglect oil changes and the burnt particles of oil stop up the lifters and they can tap. You can replace them and they are fine. Some owners want to revert to the 2.0 style with mechanical adjustable lifters. You have to adjust every 15,000 miles according the book. This way there is no tap if you adjust them properly. When using the mechanical lifter setup, you MUST use the 2.0 cam. If you use the 2.2 cam with the mechanical lifter setup, you will never get the tapping sound out of the valve train.
      I can speak from experience on this when I did it not believing what others have already done. I thought it can't be, it must be them, but it's true, you will never get all the noise out. Hope that clears it up.

      That's hard to say The hydraulic are maintenance-free and the mechanical lifters you will have to adjust every 15,000 mi The only difference is the hydraulic lifters if you neglect oil changes the little bitty holes in them for the oil passages could get stopped up and cause a lot of ticking.

    How do you tell if you don't have mechanical valves? And what's the difference?

    • @MazdaMitch
      @MazdaMitch  3 роки тому +2

      86-87 (B2000) Mazda trucks had mechanical lifters.
      88-93 (B2200) Mazda trucks had hydraulic non adjustable lifters.
      Many choose to swap the valve train in favor of the adjustable rockers.
      If you have swapped over, or have an other Mazda, this video is for you.
      If your B2200 is chattering, ticking, it is likely your hydraulic lifters are not staying primed.
      You can replace them, or swap to the adjustable valve train. If you do so, use the 2.0 cam along with the adjustable rockers.
      To find out what you have, take the valve cover off and inspect.

    • @MazdaMitch

      That's odd. Try again. Decking the head should have no effect on putting the valves and springs together. Also it's hard to explain in text but on the underside of the head, there is a divet. You can deck the head until the divet disappears and then that's as low as you can go.

      I first tried to replace the O rings but quickly decided it's be easier to replace the lifters.
      The new lifters were cleaned then soaked overnight in break in oil. The oil rails were cleaned. Keeping the new lifters from falling out during reassembly was a PITA but I managed to get everything back in properly after a few tries.
      Eyes closed, fingers crossed, butthole puckered I fired her up. I let the engine get to operating temp and drove around the block. I could still hear ticking but it sounded different. A google search suggested adjusting the timing chain balancer. I did the adjustment (easy 10 min job) and took it for another drive around the block. I haven't heard any ticking since.
