I remember her work on "The Dean Martin Show", Shirley Booth's daughter in "Touch of Grace", and, probably, her most famous role, as the shrewish, manipulative hostess on "It's A Living".
The "too many books" bit ignores the fact that the USSR pronted a solid 60% of all books at the time of its existence. You could say just about anything, put it on paper, as long as its not about the government you might get published. Same with the arts, the snow queen is a masive leap in animation and is also a great film even to this day.
I remember this episode being like two completely separate episodes in 1, this Magda storyline and the Charmaine/Blanche book plot. Seemed like such a random pairing of plots that had nothing to do with each other lol
I speak Czech and always laugh that they have her speak basically perfect English but with an accent. How did someone magically learn English grammar and vocabulary five minutes after she got to the US?
I figured that Magda studied English before she came to the States. Over the years, I've met several people from other countries who did that. It would explain why she spoke English well but still had a thick accent.

I love this show a lot, but I hate the way other nationalities (especially eastern Europeans) were portrayed on American TV in this era. It's very lazy and ignorant for the sake of comedy.
I liked about half f the shows from the first three seasons. Then the show quality went downhilll. After that there were very few worth to watch episodes. It was just one liner insult jokes spread across weak storylines every week.
