    So I am now watching the Arnold to Cape Girardeau...I lived in St Louis all of my life, we now live in Northwest Alabama...we lived in Fairhope far a year and wanted to build an new house there but the hurricanes and tropical storms was something I didn't want to deal with. Where you anchored in the Meramec River was only 10 minutes to our home in St. Louis. We used to canoe on the upper Meramec a lot the river up stream is crystal clear and beautiful to float. One last thing if I might, I was wondering why you all left in the fall, but then I realized that in Spring the Mississippi floods and there is a lot of debris on the river in the spring. Thanks.

      Hi Larry! The "rule of thumb" for the Great Loop is Midwest rivers in the Fall, Florida in the Winter, the east coast in the Spring and the Great Lakes in the Summer...it is just a "guideline" but that is what most Looper do. Great question! Thanks for commenting!

    • @DrJohn493
      @DrJohn493 Місяць тому

      Fairhope is still standing but can't blame you for the caution. NW Alabama ain't too shabby though. We ended up having a getaway place on Lake Martin AL over a beach place on the Florida panhandle for the very same reason you didn't select Fairhope. And the Florida beaches are only a 4 hour drive for us when we get the salt & beach itch.

    Don't know if I've said this before, but big fan now. 1st few looper videos I watched, took me few to get invested in watching, but now can't wait for their next video to come out or they've already completed the loop. Watched one of your 1st and was like I'll wait until some of the others are done. Watched the 2nd and was okay, I really like these guys. Now watching every new one and going back to watch the pre-loop prep ones too. Keep up the great work. I know it's time consuming, but really appreciate the effort you put in to put out quality and informative videos. Thanks.

    The dogs look so happy on the beach. Great video .... The trees turning fall colors are beautiful. Your boat seems so quiet on the fly-helm while cruising. Hopefully I van talk my wife into doing this when we retire in two years. We have the money to do it. You guys living my dream. Cheers, Dave from Oregon.

      Ollie and Sulley were SOOOO happy! Ollie has adjusted quite well to boat life, surprisingly. I hope the Great Loop works out for you both! I was the more hesitant and nervous partner. Bob has so much more boating experience. But, you learn quick, and the challenge has been incredibly rewarding. There are so many nice people out there ready to help! Thank you for watching!

    Awesome video again on your adventure! I'm wondering what the water depth was traveling through the eddys? Thanks! Safe boating to you all!

    • @cruisingandromeda
      @cruisingandromeda  7 місяців тому

      Good question! I was worried at first, thinking there was rocks or uneven river bottom below us when we started seeing the eddys....but there were never any spikes or dips in the depth. I'm sure there was something down there, possibly hundreds of feet behind us...but no real depth changes under us. Thank you for following along and the great question!

  • @bigr4655
    @bigr4655 Місяць тому +1

    I'm not sure which episode you guys had where your water system was losing prime with half of a tank of water and spitting out your sinks, but I suspect your water tank has a vacuum in it.

    • @bigr4655
      @bigr4655 Місяць тому +1

      You guys probably fill your tank when you get the chance and as it draws down without an adequate vent a vacuum will reduce head pressure to the pump even if it's a PD pump to the point where it won't suck. Next time that happens, open your water tank fill cap and try it. That would break vacuum and it should work. Ever find the culprit?

    • @cruisingandromeda
      @cruisingandromeda  28 днів тому

      Thank you so much! This is excellent information and we made a note of your comment in our maintenance logs if it happens again. However, we did end up just replacing both pumps and it has worked well ever since thankfully!

    Do you always have to anchor with a stern anchor. Watch other loopers and did not notice them using a stern anchor

    • @cruisingandromeda
      @cruisingandromeda  7 місяців тому

      Great question! We are using a stern anchor in these narrow rivers off the main river to stop from swinging in circles. These are small little anchorages and we don't have much room side to side. If we are on a 5:1 scope thats about 40' of chain out, plus Andromeda's 50' length is about 90' in length. Swinging 90' from the center towards the banks could beach us. Also some of these small anchorages fill up with other boaters as the day/night goes on....so this allows us to anchor tighter to each other with out swinging around. Thanks you so much for your support and great comments!
