- THE DEMOPOLIS RUN! We are up before the sun again and we will put 100 plus miles behind us today as we make way from Columbus Marina in Columbus MS to Kingfisher Marina in Demopolis AL. We will go through 3 more locks and need to time the weather, daylight and our fuel just right to make it to port safely!

Hey we like your videos we bought our boat last fall in Kentucky and drove it up the Mississippi and the Illinois river to Hammond I'll. I think we were leaving and you were coming. We were on our way home to Grand Haven Mi but got stuck in St Joe Mi for five nights. We have been following your trip and are hoping it works out for you yet. We want to use our boat for two years before we go on the loop. We have a 2000 Searay 380 aft cabin. Hope to meet you someday. Good luck.

Haha! Thank you for such a sweet compliment! I don't have any unattached sisters....but you got this! If you join the Great Loop site on facebook there is always people talking about doing it solo, or single people wanting to meet up to boat together. It may be an an option??
I can hear your frustrations, The time issue is why a go by myself, my sailboat was 4 knotts max, so no rush... Bigger the group the more compromise as less stuff gets seen. Having another boat captain determine my speed would just ruin my day.
It was quite the ride doing the flotillas and having so many boats bunched together. I agree that the slower rides with longer stops is way more enjoyable!

Loving the video’s!!! Welcome to Alabama!!! My dad had a 480 SeaRay that he kept at Guntersville!!! Made the run several times from there down to the coast and back up to Lake Eufala !!! Prayers for your trip brother!!!

Another good video. I know you are farther along than this. Wife and I will be in Darien Ga end of this month. We'll be looking for AGLCA Burgees! Assuming some of the loopers have started their treks north. I have your email, so I'll message you closer to that time. If you're in the area and need anything we can help. Be aware of the tides and current in that area (Cumberland Is past St Simons. Don't know how far north it's a problem) Tides 8+ ft and current 3 to 4+ knots.

Why don't the locks let people go through when they are ready?
Hi Brian! GREAT question! Commercial traffic has priority. Sometimes pleasure boaters get spaced apart, maybe they are not traveling together but arrive at the same lock by chance. The lock will wait to try to get a group of pleasure boaters through in one shot. Also they don't like to bring the locks up or down empty...so we may have to wait while a barge approaches, gets lifted up and clears the lock before we can go in. It is confusing and it is best to communicate clearly and politely with the lock master for the best chances. Thanks for the great comment!
