    Troy, when we were cutting our teeth trying to figure out how to play Yngwie, vinnie Moore, and Paul Gilbert picking techniques, who knew a guy like you would take a deep dive, figure it out, and present everything on a platform like UA-cam years later. I don’t think the players themselves knew about pick slanting.
    Appreciate everything you’ve put into your channel for the rest of us to learn from!

    Okay I know Troy has done more for guitar teaching and technique analysis than anyone in the last 30 years, but my word is he an underrated player. Seriously. Not only does he analyze it, he can actually play this stuff in all these different styles, and execute cleanly. Tons of tasty licks and solo ideas too.

    Playing 40+ years, I can say I’ve never viewed how to pick videos but employ most all these techniques naturally over time. I wish these vids were around when I started playing.

    Your channel is amazing, I wanna practice guitar harder every time I see these videos. Also so creative, like I feel like the whacky animations make it easier for me to remember the different ideas cause I can go like "oh yeah this is that pop tarts thing, this is that anti-gravity Lamborghini thing"

    I think you should do cracking the code with Kiko Loureiro from megadeth. Many of his solos, especially from solo albums and from his previous band "Angra" rely heavily on alternate picking.

    hey Troy! been following you for years now, and I'm very thankful for your amazing effort and your great content.
    seeing that you experimented with almost every picking style and right hand technique, what is the most efficient grip to use in overall playing regardless of the style?
    I used to be a Downward pick-slanter with open hand but recently I've switched to upward slanting with a closed fist, and it's way more efficient (for me at least)
    what's your take on that dude?

    • @troygrady
      @troygrady  2 роки тому +2

      There really isn't one. Also, certain grips pair with certain arm positions - Eddie Van Halen's middle finger grip, for example, is most often used with what we call a "supinated" arm position. And that's purely for practical reasons, because when you turn your arm that way, you can usually no longer reach the strings with an index finger grip. So there is some logic to why certain grips are employed. But the most common grips, which are usually index finger grips, work with a wide array of arm positions and types of picking motions, so those are a good starting point.

      @@troygrady thanks for taking the time to reply dude!
      When I started watching your videos I also started looking for the most diverse guitar player to copy his right hand technique, and I've found that Guthrie Govan is the most diverse and he's an upward-pickslanter so I started doing the same and the results were surprisingly great!
      What's your take on that?

    Anyone else seen this older video of Troy amp shopping? ua-cam.com/video/YKUhlsc5fEI/v-deo.html I think his picking was just as good back then. But, if you watch that older video, he's playing a Nuno type Washburn, but it looks headless or something strange like hidden tuning pegs? Troy or anyone: What type of headless nut or headstock is Troy using in the amp buying video? Thanks in advance!

      Maybe it's the camera. I have the same problem. His picking technique is efficient and doesn't require much force in order to have a great pick attack.
      I tend to "overfocus" when the camera is on and end up feeling tense even if it doesn't look like it from the outside.
