I just bought a 6spd sport in Portland, Oregon a month ago. I’ve been reading that if you slap a cold air, bigger intercooler and piping and a straight pipe we could see around 300 hp. I have to keep the exhaust due to strict emission laws. What mods do you recommend for max power increase?Because the turbo lag is very noticeable.
I'm not trying to shoot you down or anything, but gaining an extra 100hp with an intake, upgrade intercooler and exhaust seems pretty optimistic. You'd likely need a bigger turbo, custom tune, and upgraded downpipe to get those kinds of numbers. A cold air intake on a turbocharged vehicle will add very little power, as the air gets superheated by the turbocharger before being cooled by the intercooler anyway. If more power is your goal, then an upgraded downpipe and custom tune should be your first step. Your powertrain warranty will no longer be valid though, unless your dealership is mod friendly (Most aren't). Another consideration is that adding a significant amount of torque will likely lead to your OEM clutch needing replacement. I have read that upgrading the intercooler hot pipe can reduce some turbo lag and even increase MPGs. It might even add a few hp. Below is a video of someone replacing their hot pipe on the Tucson, which also has the 1.6T. ua-cam.com/video/vsQRHOL9rf8/v-deo.html
I appreciate it man. I’m being very careful with mods to ensure they’re warranty friendly or not. I don’t want to blow the poor thing up as I love it but also I do lyft with it so mild upgrades are what Im after.
@@malikmcdowellswreckedatv5100, no worries! Enjoy the car. I had an '05 Elantra GT hatchback a long time ago and it was a fun car. I can imagine the new Sport is a blast to drive.
I also own one, also in Portland. If you get an exhaust, a shop can program your ECU to account for it. Get a high flow muffler. Don't get rid of your catalytic converters or muffler altogether.
Josh Nahh Depending on the Tailpipe Muffler ut has it's what makes the Poping more Hearable and they pop when you take gas off or down shift. I've droven 2017 and 2019 elantra sport + Veloster R Spec as well.
He still has another cat in the downpipe. So emission wise he is still good for OBDII check. Only states with tailpipe checks may fail since the 2nd Cat on the bottom is removed. I'm good here in Texas though!!
Sounds great man! What I would need to buy to get this result for my elantra sport
Take cats, resonator, mufflers off
What size is the piping? Any noticeable real gains ?
Got my Elantra sport in may an I do love the exhaust but I was also thinking of doin wat you did. Sounds pretty sweet bro!!
You will see more power gains when you put a tune do to that fact Hyundai has power limiter on it's factory tune.

Getting a 2018 sport soon for about 18k how much did yall pay for it?
You should get a gopro and attach it near the exhaust tips, better sound without risking your camera
Get it this christmas
The drone...
What did he cut again? A cat converter?
I drive a corolla I get pops with just muffler delete, but only on higher rpms
How do you make it pop ?
nice car, but the Rev Hang.... Has anyone made a tuner box yet to get it gone ?
This car has no rev hang just a heavy flywheel.
I don't like it because it doesn't pop like how it used to. If you would of left the muffler only it would of sounded great!
They don't pop on the regular, if anything it'll pop more now it's straight. Pops come from tapping the gas from 1.5-3k rpm when coldish

This that muffler shop on Broadway
Are you in Arizona? Streets seem a little familiar
They do. Lol
It would be so dope to live near you and listen to you practice your "pops."
Make a video tomorrow
Why not go for high flow cats? Kinda killing the environment lol plus no real gains from removing them
