I bought the 2018 Elantra Sport 6spd with the premium package today, in black. You guys had a pretty big influence in that decision. Keep doing what you do :)
I've worked on cars my whole life. First car was a 1972 charger. This car is my all time favorite car. I've had it since october, 6 speed manual. Just love it. When I worked for Dodge, I loved the Dodge Stealth, for how it stayed flat, but didn't like how cock-pit like it was. I don't like other cars where you feel like you're way over the dash, either. This car stays flat in turns, accelerates well, feels sporty, is very practical for a dad, lots of space inside, but is still a small footprint overall, stunning looking...and the factory sport wheels are just perfect and its terrific to drive. Just... I dunno, it nails everything I'd want in a car. Up to the $80,000+ price range, this is my dream car atm. And I'm lucky enough to own it!
@@yahama5817 Reporting in after owning it for 10 months. So far no major issues. I had a coil go bad at 4k miles, but it was replaced under warranty. The only problem I have had is that the black paint is incredibly thin. I have 6 rock chips on the hood which I plan to get fixed soon, and install a clear bra.
@Mr Coldly I don't care much for warranty. I like the Elantra because it is overall simply superior to it's Toyota and Honda counterparts. The warranty is just a bonus.
This is my first time watching one of your reviews, and I really enjoyed it! I hope your channel grows a ton. Excellent balance of being informative, yet brief..and entertaining! Great idea with having one guy go over the technology/interior and the other cover the driving dynamics. Keep it up!
+Ethan Julius damn. You described exactly what we're trying to do. Thanks a lot for noticing and for the compliments on the format. We're still trying different things every review, and nothing is ever set in stone (because it's completely unscripted)! Lots of content coming this year, I promise you won't be disappointed. Please don't be disappointed so I don't have to break a promise
TheStraightPipes For sure! It's a winning formula...cause not many people have the attention span to finish a 15-20 minute review (myself included) like most other channels do. You guys have a great dynamic, very easy to watch and cover all the aspects most people care about. I look forward to future vids!
buildmorefarms100 I bought one exactly 2 months ago on the 22nd of April and I now have 2222 miles on it. Today is the 22nd as well. Lots of 2s. Its an amazing car. I smile every time I send it. The dct is a bit jerky at low speed on auto mode, but city driving is much better when you leave it in manual mode and use your brakes more There is one slight problem with the infotainment. The screen has a white spot on one of the corners when I press it. I'm gonna bring it in for warranty and update. Other than that, I have no qualms. Handles like a dream and sounds mean af.
Gopi Raj Mamidi my previous vehicle was a 2003 Honda Civic EX Sedan. The road and wind noise is much less pronounced on the Elantra sport, but it is still there, as there is less noise insulation than your average non sporty car due to weight savings.
I've owned my Elantra Sport for 16 months and can say that I've got no regrets. I've been modding it because I want to have the fastest stock-turbo one ever. But even if I wasn't modding it, I'd still be just as happy.
Al Doerksen You can say that again.. Lol Honda styling in general is blaaaaah.. I just passed on a brand new 2017 Honda accord sport for this car instead but its a 2018. The accord was a complete dog when trying to accelerate and crappy feeling suspension plus it just didn't have the styling like the elantra sport.
I love how short this review is seriously. Others are like 20min+ extensive technical demonstration whereas at time I just want to know if the car is great, fun, cool and a homerun :D Great combo of feels and geeks guys. keep it up!
Got me one just a couple of weeks ago; can't get enough of it. I actually look for excuses to get out of my house now; I need to get some milk and I'll probably go to the grocery store that's further away, haha.
Got mine 3 days ago. Same deal. Went to the store tonight, got back, and wife asked me why it took so long. LOL. Well, I couldn't just go there and straight back home now, could I?
So it doesn't have turbo lag like the Civic and handles better than the Civic. IMO it also looks far better. Like you kept saying, it's a mature car. Civic looks so juvenile.
@PARK beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but plenty of people think the Civic is overstyled. It gives the impression of trying to appeal to a young demographic, but trying way too hard.
This design is far better than the new one. This should have been the base model. I've only seen 1 of these and it's sitting infront of me. I can't stand the new triangle light. It actually looks like a complete car.
Great overall fun car, I've owned mine for about a month now and love the handling of it. I just wish the exhaust was louder so I could hear it from the inside, but for a stock it's pretty good. I'm thinking of replacing the stock exhaust for a louder one. Good video guys!
+Cal Keeno thanks! Definitely get a louder one ONLY IF it sounds better. Hyundai did really well on this stock exhaust. It doesn't sound like a typical 4 cylinder and unless the aftermarket exhaust's sound properties are tuned well it may sound worse but louder
I have the DCT Elantra Sport, and you can't go wrong with it. It feels a little like an auto, since it seems like Hyundai tried to make it as smooth as possible. But when you give it the beans, the DCT nature comes alive.
Certainly the most entertaining review yet of the Elantra sport, and informative too. I have driven one of these in the central valley of CA, where no squigglies exist, and thought it was a great car for the money. But how does it handle on a tight mountain road? Thanks for a great review!
+Christopher Jones great, thanks. I wish we had some mountains around here. It definitely handles well for what we could put it through. World's better than the Veloster Turbo
Loving my 2018 Elantra sport. Picked it up about 3 months ago. In fact it is matured turbo like they said. Real sleeper just wish the stock exhaust had more pops and crackles and were actually louder to be able to be heard from the cabin I’d be happier haha. But overall best bang for yohr buck car. The interior alone is amazing and the infinity sound system sounds good for what it is.
Test drove a '19 one of these today and I was impressed. I still like the GT N Line better, but this is a really nice car. It's a lot of car for the money. They're talking some pretty good deals on the last one they have, gonna see if I can get a similar deal on a GT N Line tomorrow or I may trade in my GLI if the deal's right.

Love your videos and enthusiasm! Just one thing: Maybe put in a slide with all of the Specs in the beginning including price point, engine specs, etc. Just so the viewers know what they are paying for, rather than the creature comforts and sporty feel of the cars that you guys are experiencing in the videos. Just a thought!
for regular person with not buckets of money that wants something still fun to drive get this car with a manual. Don't worry how fast it is, i driven it it feels fast, about as fast as a wee 1.6 engine is gonna be. Just get the 6spd and have some fun with an all around good practical car.Buy it when they are running deals and it will be way lower in price then the honda.
Good car, much better than any other Elantra has ever been, but still not quite there. Just missing a little something in my opinion. Like you guys said in the review, its a more mature car. Maybe too mature for this kid. I would still take the Civic over this (and I did !). No heated steering wheel here in the US; bummer eh ? I saw your video on the Kia Forte 5 SX, and I would actually take that car over this. But then again, I prefer hatchbacks. In the future, I would like to see you guys review the Hyundai I30N. That looks pretty sick. I have heard we're not getting it here in the US (at least not initially), so I don't know if you guys in Canada will be getting it either. In the Canada vs USA comparison, you guys get the heated steering wheel in this car, and the Civic sport touring in a manual. US doesn't get those treats haha. Have a great weekend Y & J ! I'm going to go netflix & chill today. Maybe go catch baby driver.
+Boateng 2018 right on man! Yes we're very much looking forward to Hyundai's N division. We can only assume it will come to north America but it won't be the i30N. It will likely be the Elantra GT Sport N or something. Probably the Veloster N as well
The Forte's torsion beam makes it less confident in low traction conditions compared to the Elantra. That alone is what made me choose the Elantra Sport over a Forte 5/Koup SX.
Been watching a ton of your videos lately. I have probably watched all the Elantra Sport ones multiple times as Im very interested in getting either a 2017 or 2018 (the 2019s are UGLY) Sport with a 6 speed manual as it looks to be a great car where I can have fun driving again and still plenty of room for my sons. As a dad I have been driving boring crossovers lately and I miss having fun cars like I used to have- Volvo S40 T5, 06 Honda Accord 5 speed manual, 07 Acura TSX!
Nothing was said about the gas mileage: Elantra Sport 1.6 turbo manual is 22 mpg in city. The Civic 1.5 turbo manual is 31 mpg in city. That's a huge difference.
My favorite part is actually the wheels they look like a triton and love the two colors of them I’m a Volvo fan usually but would go for this car if needed something cheap reliable and wanted to pay cash for a vehicle for commuting to and from work
I like to think of the Elantra Sport as the primer to what Albert Biermann will do with the N Performance division. I do find it a bit hilarious that the former BMW M boss is now the lead engineer at Hyundai, and their performance division is now N.
I really like my Elantra, not a sport since they weren't available in the US yet, but it's a very nice car for the price (better features than my $45000 expedition) it is definitely an adult car.
I agree with Yuri with regards to the customization of the digital screen in the dash board and I would not need the automatic climate control. Now just like Jakub I would love to hear the exhaust inside and I would like it to feel fast but apparently it doesn't feel fast.
My 19 year old son is looking at a few different cars that can be bought new for under $20k USD. I have already driven this and was pretty impressed, especially for what you get for the money. He hasn't been in this one and will in a couple of weeks. We drove the Fiesta ST (I owed a 2014) and he didn't buy it due to the Recaros. It was a 2016 with 22k miles for $15400. Drove the Honda Fit Sport manual and Toyota IA manual, both were easy NO's. I think the last two to drive will be this Elantra Sport and the Focus ST as they are really discounting those as well. Any other ideas? He's ready for a fun driving manual trans car now. The Mazda 3 2.5 Touring manual is just outside of his range.
Elantra sport, elantra gt sport, focus St, Fiesta ST, base gti, civic Si, Subaru brz / Toyota 86, Nissan 370z. Pretty much all of the fun "cheap" cars.
We plan to drive a Cruze RS Redline package tomorrow, which is the cheapest. It will probably come down to the Mazda3 touring manual sedan, Elantra Sport manual, and the Cruze RS automatic. Fiesta truly rides too rough to live with. Other cars are too much money. We can get the MS3 touring man and Elantra Sport man for $20k USD out the door. He could also get the Focus ST manual for the same money, but hardly any features, worse MPG, and requires premium. The MS3 has the Bose and sunroof.
+TheStraightPipes Great review guys! A comparison video between the sport and its main competitors might be fun. The Mazda3 being the best in this class for a long time...would you say the elantra dethrones it?
+Justin Lee we would love to do a multi car comparison but it's extremely difficult / nearly impossible with 2 people. We'll try in the future somehow, we don't want to half ass it. I can't answer the mazda 3 question yet but we'll be reviewing one in the next few weeks so watch for that.
I would like to tell you some additional information of this car. It used to be called Avante Sport in Korea but from April, they dropped "Sport" and put "1.6T" instead(My car as well). I think its because they are about to launch a sub-brand "N"(high performance models by Hyundai, such as AMG or M), they may believe that 1.6T engine does not deserve "Sport" badge. And Avante Sport has much gentler exhaust sound than Elantra Sport, so that sucks for Koreans.
William musslewhite I agree with Yuri. My current car has this. It's annoying to not be able to just scroll quickly though six or so presets and being conscious of where you are in the list.
Hey guys, you don't seem to do comparison videos but you do mention how you think this car drives / feels better then the Civic. Now that that the Elantra Sport 5 door wagon is out (with a huge panoramic sunroof!), I'd love to see a comparison between it and the Civic. Unfortunately, North America is not slated to get the RN30 (or whatever the N performance version of this car is called) so no comparison with the Civic Type R but it seems Hyundai is killing it. They even hired some of BMW's M engineering talent to setup the suspension on these cars.
+Trauma Dynamics it's just 2 of us doing everything so we would rather not film a bad comparison. When we can figure out how to film it well with just 2 of us or have budget for a 3rd or 4th guy we'll do it. The best way we found was the Hyundai Ioniq video. We'll be doing the Elantra GT Sport in August
What are your thoughts about the Elantra GT? How does it compare to the Elantra Sport. The GT looks sportier to me and I like the fascia better. Thank you guys for great entertainment and information.
As a European I'm supposed to be programmed to dislike small sedan cars but I'd buy this one. Of course Hyundai won't sell it to me because we can't have small sedans.
Weather tech has told me they are making a new set for the Elantra Sport. Would you say there was any issues with the weathertechs that were installed in your test vehicle? I have not purchased my set for this vehicle yet because I was unsure if they would be different than the one's made for the standard elantra. any thoughts?
+jstutman ours honestly had no issues. But if you're willing to wait I'm guessing they wouldn't go through the cost and effort of redesigning if they felt it wasn't worth it. If what they told you is true, I would wait if I were you

I own a 2014 Hyundai Genesis R Spec. That car is killer. 429 hp rwd and 8 speed transmission. That’s the best car Hyundai has ever made.
I bought an 18 ES new to replace my 04 TSX and it was a good move. You can’t lose with this, fun to drive and very nimble.
Nothing was said about the gas mileage: Elantra Sport 1.6 turbo manual is 22 mpg in city. The Civic 1.5 turbo manual is 31 mpg in city. That's a huge difference.
+oneblach I personally don't worry about gas mileage, just go by the stat sheet -yuri
My favorite part is actually the wheels they look like a triton and love the two colors of them I’m a Volvo fan usually but would go for this car if needed something cheap reliable and wanted to pay cash for a vehicle for commuting to and from work
ITS A MATURBO (mature turbo)
good review ~but I predict that " the Best hyundai ever made" will probly be from the new hyundai N sport division lol
+tochjo772 that's why I said "it's the best Hyundai, Hyundai makes". The N isn't out yet but yes it will be better for sure!
I like to think of the Elantra Sport as the primer to what Albert Biermann will do with the N Performance division.
I do find it a bit hilarious that the former BMW M boss is now the lead engineer at Hyundai, and their performance division is now N.
+Calculated Risk yep that's definitely funny
Calculated Risk It's all about the $$$$
You guys are kinda nerdy... but I like your banter! Its witty and fun.
+Doug N thanks?
TheStraightPipes ..
I meant it in a good way.
Nice fellas and a bit on the nerd side.
+Doug N haha
I really like my Elantra, not a sport since they weren't available in the US yet, but it's a very nice car for the price (better features than my $45000 expedition) it is definitely an adult car.
I agree with Yuri with regards to the customization of the digital screen in the dash board and I would not need the automatic climate control. Now just like Jakub I would love to hear the exhaust inside and I would like it to feel fast but apparently it doesn't feel fast.
+Ignacio Ottati you're the man. Agreeing with both of us
Hello, which is better this Elantra, or the kia forte 5 sx 2017?
"Does it have blind spot monitoring.... No, I have a head" lol
These two guys are wicked
+nelsonsubaru haha thanks man
I would like to tell you some additional information of this car.
+이현석 interesting, thanks. Yes they are definitely launching the N brand in the coming years which will be very exciting to see what they come up with
It' a very fun review
+J CY thanks!
“genisis is a new company now” 😂😂
I do agree with the unneed 40 presets. it's annoying that you can't delete them.
+William musslewhite just don't use them!
William musslewhite I agree with Yuri. My current car has this. It's annoying to not be able to just scroll quickly though six or so presets and being conscious of where you are in the list.
i wonder how you filmed all around the moving car. using the segway? cool work. looks very professional.
+이현석 thanks for noticing. Yes we have some secret filming methods haha. Yuri works in the commercial film industry
I got a 2018 Elantra sel and my Brother is picking up a 2017 Elantra sport
You guys remind me of Bill and Ted. haha. great review!
+Byrnz Rubber excellent! San Dimas High School football rules!
hahaha
Like the Elantra, they are more mature - more like William and Theodore.
laugh my ass off when yuri dropped coffee
Thanks for the reply, and looking forward to GT Sport review. You may not have the budget yet but you guys are fun to watch which is everything.
+Trauma Dynamics thanks! Budget will come... Hopefully! We're planning some pretty crazy stuff this summer including comparisons finally
Love this car
subtle weather tech ad? i dont know
+Mohammed Jaffer we did it for fun to see if weather tech would sponsor us. We bought the mats ourselves
Lol i was just teasing, good job on your videos! Subscribed!
+Mohammed Jaffer no that's all good. We just want to be upfront and honest about everything. See something you're not sure of? Ask!
Send me all the swag you don’t want ! 🙏🏽
If y'all still have this weather tech mats and want to re-home them, I'd be willing to take em off your hands :)
What are your thoughts about the Elantra GT? How does it compare to the Elantra Sport. The GT looks sportier to me and I like the fascia better. Thank you guys for great entertainment and information.
+Laifer Reyes were driving it this week
Awesome! Thanks for the reply, you guys are achieving superstar status on UA-cam!
TheStraightPipes looking forward to the review of the gt. Looking to choose between that or this sedan. It’s all base on your reviews. 😀
As a European I'm supposed to be programmed to dislike small sedan cars but I'd buy this one. Of course Hyundai won't sell it to me because we can't have small sedans.
+HB45175 but you get the i30N and we don't!
If what they told you is true, I would wait if I were you
i agree. best hyundai car
This is still the best Elantra
im getting this car in 2 years or so :) i have the elantra limited, and im excited to get the sport next
+Colin Warburton right on you'll love it
Is this is some kind of farce ? Have you guys seen the new Jetta R ?
These guys are so pleasant.
+Jon Garibay sweet
Very Audi like. I think cause one of those Audi engineers works at Hyundai now.
You guys should try the Veloster turbo. Same engine as the Elantra sport, but the Veloster is much lighter.
+yanal0611 we tried the 2016. Watch our review
nice waterproof carpet
Subbed !
+YoungHugs thanks!
2 Minute Test Drive hahaha I I first saw you guys on TSN 😂
Awesome
“Doesn’t matter... I have a head.”
Hahahaha
