I gotta say, I kinda hate how this is all separated. To read the hickman saga, you need to read the house and powers hardcover. Read the the first half of the omnibus. Stop. Read the sword of x hardcover. Then go back to the omnibus, finish that. Then read inferno which is in yet another hardcover. Plus you might want to read the excaliber hardcover before x of swords if you really wanna understand what's going on. Oh! And read the new mutant hickman issues. That ties into xmen as well. Confused yet? Exactly. It's a mess.
Yeah I'm totally lost have no idea what all I have to read
I'm still new in this whole comic stuff and it only gets more and more confusing, not only the amount of different series we have related to the Mutants, but also the timeline, and like, there are some comics you don't really HAVE to read, but some you have to understand what is going on, even tho they happen in the same universe, and there is another point...
@@scawy4256 i know it’s confusing, so here are some advice from me to u
1. Go for omnibus (they collect things well, buy it and read, no additional digging)
2. Choose an era u feel like (art, storyline,…)
3. Solo run is easier to read, crossover is just too much to collect.
4. Writer and run. Do some research on this, so that u know u read the best era of a character
Came here for this. Been trying to figure out the existing reading order for an hour now, considering I have stayrd far away from xmen
this is what has ultimately made X-Men so inaccessible imo
They need to collect all of Hickman's run in two proper omnibus editions. HOX/POX, X-men, x of swords and Inferno.
They probably will, after they get everybody to buy this. Lol
Dont forget about his New Mutants issues
I said the same thing lol I’m going hold out and wait .
That will happen but not for about half a decade. But I don’t sense a lot of patience about this
Been waiting for this for SO LONG, bought it a year ago and it’s been delayed into oblivion. Just finished X of Swords looking forward to finishing up the Hickman run!
Very sad they didn’t include Hickman’s issues of New Mutants, those were integral to some of the stuff happening here
I'm sure it will be included in a New Mutants Omnibus
You know where they fit in and if it’s collected in any kind of trade or HC?
@@notrub225 A Dawn of X omni
@@johnnieriot13 they’re collected in the dawn of x/reign of x trades that collect the whole x line and the new mutant trade volume 1
They follow HoX PoX in the reading order can be read before after any of that first phase of X-men books after HoX PoX
I'm slowly getting more into Marvel, thanks in part to this channel. I read HoX PoX because of your recommendation, Omar, and now I'm eying this omni. I help out at my LCS and we got these over the weekend, and I think I'm going to pick up one of those dm covers. I mostly read DC and indies but I wanna feel some of that X Hype as well!
HoX/PoX OHC was one of the best self-contained X-Men books ever, you picked a good entry point.
@@Matthew.E.Kelly. All thanks to the community here! Minus the person who told me Omar didn't care if I had read HoX Pox. Haha. I always appreciate people giving reading recs so that other people can enjoy a new/newer fandom.
@Ryan Wilson yeah, I've heard it goes off the rails. It's okay, I'm a GoT fan so I'm used to disappointment. Haha
Make sure u get the x of swords event as well
@@BowmansWorld for sure! Omar and the Minties are slowly corrupting me into an X-Men reader. 🤘🏼
This was JUST sent out my way!!! Sooo excited!!!!!!
You know what would be a nice video idea:
For the Uncanny Omar to walk into any comic book shop and just look through the books they have to see how much of it he already has.
Talk about a long road to get here. I got the first trade when it came out, not knowing when something like this was coming, I waited till you finally annouced a OHC, then silence until the line shifted and then it became a omni, and now after so much delay it's finally here....what a winding road. Even if it's not a great concise story cover to cover for those not engrossed, I'll be stoked to have it on my shelf. Long live Hickman, may he return to the line
Funnily enough I was actually looking for just this review yesterday. excellent timing Mr Omar
I Pre-ordered this Omni Forever Ago from DCBS 😁 Can't wait to Read 😸 Big Thanks Omar for Giving Another Great Overview 👍💜
GREAT OVERVIEW!!! ESPECIALLY THE MARK BROOKS VARIANT COVER!!! AWESOME!!!! Thanks Omar, David Gabriel, and the folks at Marvel! 👍
I'm pretty torn about this. I want the whole run to be collected in omnibus format in order, starting with House and Powers of X and collecting all the series, which would make this a waste to have in omni format, especially where they aren't turning the other complete series into omnis such as Hellions.
Agreed, and that's what I'm going to hold out for. Mapping with this omni / generation of X-men isn't customer friendly.
I think if you guys are cool waiting 4-5 years, then go for it.
Is it possible to rent these books instead of owning them?
I pre ordered and had to go with the Dauterman cover! Can’t wait to get my hands on it
god I love this run! Beautiful art and great content
Oh man, I hope my LCS has a copy on the shelf this week!
About damn time. This book has been getting pushed back till the end of time.
Adding this to my Hickman collection.
I've been waiting on this video for so long.
I’m rereading HoXPoX for the first time since I first got it. And wow does it hold up well. Such a classic. I haven’t read any of the other oversized books yet besides X of Swords as I was reading the mix tape trades with X-Men, Marauders, X-Force etc. But that just isn’t the same with that flimsy tiny paper. I want the oversized. So whenever one of these series is released as an omnibus or a DHC than I’m in. And I’m loving it so far.
I'm hoping that in a couple years they make an omnibus that includes everything Hickman X-Men together. An omnibus with HoX/PoX, X-Men, X of Swords, and Inferno all together. Don't even care if they split it into 2 smaller omnibus I just want everything together. As pointed out it makes no sense having to jump from hardcover to omnibus to another hardcover just to experience 1 continuous story. That's the entire point of buying an omnibus, so an entire run can be read and in the best order available.
This is such a weird omnibus. Hickman's X-Men was basically an anthology book with a bunch of little one-and-done stories building out the world of Krakoa (in large part). This isn't a bad thing, but it's not like it's one complete story from front to back like some other omnibuses, so why not collect everything X related that Hickman wrote including HoXPoX, his New Mutants issues, Inferno, etc. Well it's obvious why but still.
yes $ its $ obvious $ why $, $, $
So happy that it's not printed in Kentucky. Kentucky X-Men OHCs have had wavy pages for some reason. Can't wait to receive it and have a reread!!!!
@@PurifyWithLight Happy it's not* sorry
Oh I can't wait for this. Thank you Omar.
I just got my Mutant Massacre Omnibus today and I'm tempted to get the Hickman X-Men omnibus but I'm not sure if I felt the same way I felt reading it as I did reading the X-Men of the 80s but my dad was gonna get me the Excalibur vol 1 but it went out of print so it's sad because he passed away in February & he got me interested in reading comic's and it was so sudden that it's just hard because I didn't expect that to be the way my year was gonna start
He would always talk about Comic's he liked from the late 80s and I felt grateful for his interest in the X-Men and Iron Man also the Avengers because that really shaped me when I was younger and the X-Men cartoon really made me want to seek out the Comic's
My Dad really will be the only person I could talk to about Comic's without judgement and he himself loved the media so it's been pretty rough these last few months because he was like my friend who I felt like I could talk to about anything and it's just strange & unfair because we had so much planned for this year, it just seems like nothing goes the way I thought it would in life witch is a damn shame 😔
Can't wait for my standard edition to ship! Looking forward to re-reading HoX/PoX then diving into this omni.
I can't believe that Marvel is the best selling company and, at the same time, the one that uses the cheapest paper. Shame on them.
Man i love the omnibus cover
Love that book design!
Thank you brother!
This really should have included House/Powers of X
And Inferno!
Why would they do that when the OHC was their number one seller that year. Omar said he sure an omnibus will happen with all of Hixmen, but not for years.
@@elvaquerovaquero5243 Not 100% sure but I think the oversize HC is sold out and they do not go back to print on OHC's. X of Swords HC is sold out at a lot of places too.
With this being an Omni a possible Dawn of X Omni should just be the other Dawn titles collected together, not including HoXPoX, leading up to swords.
Repeat that for a Reign Omni leading to inferno.
Yeah, I'm waiting to see if there's overall dawn of x/reign of x omnis in the future
I’m just getting into Hickman’s saga starting with fantastic four and then avengers once that reprint comes out and then onto x men, it’s pretty confusing for a new reader but I’m just excited to learn
Dammit. I just bought Hickman’s Fantastic Four Vol. 1! I forgot this one was coming.
Avengers Hickman omnibus next month too, HICKMAN OVERLOAD
@@dws0828: I don’t know how to feel. I just started collecting omnibuses and I wanted to start with Hickman. (Especially since I can tell the the MCU is going to take lots of inspiration from his storylines.)
Vol 2 of FF is also coming this month.
@@gabrielcarrasco8414 Right. The one with the Future Foundation uniforms and Spider-Man.
@@invisiblefan2387 I’m in your same boat with the Hickman omnibuses at least, the FF and avengers really help each if you read them around the same time. There’s a ‘Fantastic Four complete collection 3’ that’s on sale on Amazon that wraps up a lot of the stories in that FF omnibus at a discounted rate. Doesn’t have everything that would be in that second FF omnibus but most of it and it’ll save you a lot of money
X men is more or less it’s own thing though which just a few connections to Hickman’s secret warriors stuff. I’ve really enjoyed it but I’ve always wanted to see a radical X-men group
My copy is on the wayyyy!!! Let's go! Organic Price Books 🔥🔥🔥
Can’t wait for the preorder to arrive!
Thanks for this amazing review Omar, thank you so much. Since you have the contact, please pass on some feedback to the guys in MARVEL, tell them we really need OMNIBUS which are having a whole Era, Arc, event, and to have them label as Vol 1 o Vol 2, I appreciate having the creator name on it, but is really disappointing if we do not get the whole event, what is the point on calling the book as OMNIBUS if is not containing everything related to the Arc/Event?. Again thanks for your review Omar, keep up the great work you do!!
. If you wait long enough, it might happen. Maybe half a decade or so.
I really like the current X-Men era but I think I'll skip this omnibus, Hickman's X-Men run works better alongside the other books for me and not so much on its own. I'll stick to the Dawn of X and Reign of X trades. I hope Marvel decide to eventually release Dawn/Reign/etc. of X omnis with everything in reading order.
I preordered the Dauternan cover but I think a lot of the artwork has been shrunk to allow for the title banner. Imak are printing more and more of the omnis so thinner paper stock seems to be the way of the future. Thanks Omar, Monday videos are always great to look forward to!
I preordered the DM cover, it really caught my eye 💙
Good Lord is Marvel selling this "omnis" along with a magnifier ... those spines are getting tinnier and tinnier ...
So excited for this book, had it preordered for so long
Omar, I’ve been collecting Dawn of X and Reign of X. I don’t think this is a necessary book to purchase. All of these issues are collected in the separate volumes if I’m not mistaken. I do like hardcovers but don’t like double dipping.
Wish they do a Dawn of X omni that has a reading order.
I have this on order and am looking forward to it, as I've not read any of it yet. Have deliberately held off as I wanted to read the main storyline and not all the "fat" outside of it. Though I do have Hellions trades to read (nothing but good things heard) and the first Marauders one as well
You'll be very weirded out as his run is basically just set up for the rest of the line to mine from, he added new things and concepts every issue as an overall anthology/sourcebook for the whole X World/Krakoan era to play with. It's not a continuous story per se outside of like 4 issues lol
All of the Hixmen era is being collected as OHCs except for ... Hixmen! Interesting approach. An idea what the spine for the DM looks like? I'll probably have to get a custom DJ made anyways though 😮
Sadly the DM spine for this looks identical, and doesn't match any of the other colorful artwork DM spines from House, Swords or Gala.. Another poor effort from Marvels design team.
They should have include HoX/PoX, Inferno, New Mutants 1-4, X-Men: Empyre 1-5.
As much as I want this omnibus I already own all 16 issues of Dawn of X paperback plus Hickman’s X-Men vol. 3 paperback and the Hellfire Gala paperback. So I just can’t justify the expanse.
You already have something more closer to be label as OMNIBUS than this 📖
expense
Sheesh. I caved a ended up getting the omnibus anyway. I’m such a simp.
Man these pages are see through
Should I pick this up? I’ve never read X-men but I really like Hickman. just started his FF run which I’m really enjoying. I’m new to marvel and comics but Hickman’s dope and feels like the marvel runs I should get into.
Yes! Read his "Hox/Pox," This omni and "Inferno" when it comes out next. Don't worry about the rest of the fat from this era. You're missing nothing. Those 3 titles are all you need.
Honestly, I would wait for a more complete, overall Omni of this era. There's a lot of things this doesn't collect, plus all the additional x-books not written by Hickman that influence each other.
@@cactusblack5993 didnt know that. Thanks
@@robd1329 Outside of the three titles I mentioned above the rest of the Krakoan era was as mentioned, filler. Literally most of it wasn't part of Hickmans plan for the X-Men. That's why he left the title. It was hijacked, and Marvel got greedy wanting to push out more than needed. The first six issues of New Mutants, Hellions and Sword are the exception titles since they do setup and go along with what Hickman was planning. Wolverine and X-Force had strong starts but kinda got repetitive afterwards. Just incase you wanted to dive in a bit more into this era. Just giving you a heads up.
When does this release? Another great overview. Thanks Omar!
Great overview, as usual! Since Marvel doesn’t typically reprint OHCs, any thoughts on how/when we might see HoX/Pox in oversized format again?
Jason Aaron's Thor omni review please!
Oh. It's coming. You know it!
@@balkthor I want it now lol
The tiny font uglyness now affects modern Omnis too (and again without any regard whatsoever for design adopted in previous collections of the very same run). Maybe one day we will find out who in Marvel upper management is so in love with micro-fonts and changing trade dress mid-run. 🤬
I thought i was the only one that notice that micro font and hated it.
+near mint condition is this Omnibus a good start for reading X-Men
If someone wanted to read and know the full Hickman X-men world are these the essential 4 books?
1. HoX/Pox,
2. Xmen (Omni- this review)
3. X of Swords
4. Hellfire Gala
thanks!
Yeah that's the order, although I'd recommend marauders because it's the next best thing in the other series
Add Inferno to this and you're fine. Hellfire Gala is optional imo
@@brandon17760 thanks!
@@shosseth3183 ahhhh that one too!! thanks!
Honestly, just read...
Hox/Pox
X-Men omni
Inferno
All that other stuff isn't apart of Hickmans true vision for the Krakoan era. Just a bunch of fat from (majority) mediocre writers. Those three recommended is all you need.
I love Hickman, but I'm skipping this one. Not a fan of the thin paper that they have been using recently and I hate the fact that you need to jump into X of Swords halfway through the Omnibus. 😑
Yeah the mapping for HickMen has been really bizarre. They could've released them in two omni volumes, would've been much cleaner.
What books should i read before hox/pox and this. New x-men & Astonishing x-men omniboos, House of M trade...anything else?
I don’t really follow releases so messed up. Only have the omnibus. Going to suck having to buy that again, hopefully i shouldn’t need to. I wouldn’t mind the X oversized to come back.
Got hooked on Hickman with his Image trades and instantly went for his FF & Avengers omnis. I forgot about East of West and would like to finish that in oversized…
My dm is on the way 🥳
Any idea when there'll be like Maruaders, Excalibur, X-force, etc get an omnibus vol 1? Or maybe got a list of Dawn of X era hardcovers?
Really bummed that hickinferno isn’t in this omni though :/
Just started reading the dawn of x volumes. I’m so confused but it’s cool. Am I missing something ?
"If" we ever get a Dawn of X omnibus, do you think they'd include these X-Men issues, or just the rest of the X titles like Excalibur, New Mutants, Marauders, etc?
I mean, how could a Dawn of X omni be even mapped? It would be huge, I guess
I wish they would follow the mapping close to the Anthologies.
Did David mention if future modern X-Men omnis will exclude the X of Sword issues as well? Just wondering if I should buy that OHC now for future reference.
Unfortunately this run leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Knowing that it never was able to finish with the vision Hickman had for it.
Without spoiler alerts what do you mean?
Hopefully they’ll go somewhere with it that Hickman somewhat intended, but the Moira stuff in ‘Deaths of Wolverine’ isn’t what I was expecting when i read Powers/House of X that’s for sure.
@@doublez_ The run was interrupted by bring in other writers and it fell off a cliff. Honestly with the way things were Hickmans run had so much promise. But due to decisions higher up his run is likely to be forgotten.
For me it had too many branching paths that didn't involve Hickman.
@@gabrielcarrasco8414 Completely agree. Look at the way his Avengers and FF runs are revered. I have absolutly no doubt that had he been able to do what he had intended without interruption we would be looking at his X-men the same way we see his Avengers and FF. Ah well at least Duggan is doing quite well on his own run of the x-men. Just hope he doesn't mess it up as he is hitting it out of the park right now on that book.
I’ll wait until they make one big omnibus like they did with inferno.
The dm has the trade dress across the front like the standard. I would ha w liked it to be the virgin cover like what was advertised.
I preordered this thing in June of last year. Amazon is saying the arrival date is May 2022, but the actual release date is April 2022? I don’t know what’s true. All I know I want to read this damn thing.
I hope we get a house of x power of x reprint
If the only thing I've read from the current X-Men era was Wolverine 2019 #1, how readable would this omnibus be to me?
If you’re interested in this omnibus, you should just read house/powers first. It’s even better imo, and leads right into this.
Omar, what's the deal with the small font of the titles on the spine? I thought that was only for Silver Age reprints? Just got my Hulk Peter David Vol. 1 reprint and the logo on the spine is smaller than what's on Vols. 2 & 3. You think this is a printing error or is this what we can expect going forward for both new books and reprints?
Hey Omar ! I’m tryna fast track to judgement day . After Hoxpox there is a lot of x runs and it’s a little overwhelming lol … which ones would u say are must reads or worth keeping up with ?
I’m baffled why this didn’t include Hox/Pox, with those setting off the Hickman era, one would think they would be included for content’s sake and so Hox/Pox are in omni format and ohc
I almost sell my copy of HOX/POX, thinking that this book was a really OMNIBUS containing the main ARC/Event, thanks to The Lord I didn't. So disappointed on this.
I hope we get another omnibus containing Hicksman’s HOX/POX, His X-Men, His New Mutants and Inferno. Or at least box set.
@@lazuruswolf6668 right!, despite different titles they gathered his Avengers material very nicely, no reason they can’t for his X-men work
@@dukedidgeridoo2289 Hopefully well get one in the future…… 2028 at the earliest.

Any word if Marvel will print these in a single omnibus mapped out chronologically? Not sure if I want to hunt down X of Swords OHC when something in the future is coming out
I'm disappointed at 16:23 that the awesome issue 11 Magneto cover was just a thumbnail 💔
So if I have the house and powers of x deluxe hardcover then this one comes after it? .
Yes
@@justingoers awesome thank you!
Do you think there will ever big a huge omnibus of Hickman's run that will include this small omnibus?
So... If I'm really only buying omnibus - Would i have to wait for an omnibus that includes House of X and X of swords before reading Hickman's X-men?
Thanks Omar
looks like an easy miss for me
too many loose ends and incomplete stories
I'd anyday go for a 1200+ Omni that has everything connected, even if it is more expensive
All you need to do is wait. Maybe 4 years?
I kinda wish we got to see the dressing on the covers :(
Will Marvel ever reprint/restock HoX/PoX and X of swords?
I was collecting the single issues but wanna get the collected hardcover editions but can’t find those 2 anywhere
As an X-Men reader since the 70's, I'm treating this period like an alternate reality. The characters went from trying to live and blend in with humanity to deciding to take a page out of Magneto's concept of Genosha and all agree to live on an island for mutants only. That just seemed like a radical mindset change for everyone all of a sudden. The scene in House of X where they are all resurrected and at Xavier's feet sent cult vibes to me. I followed ( am following) this run thanks to my local library having all the trades to borrow but I can't see myself ever wanting to revisit this period of X-Men ever again. The Omnibus does look nice though.
I think the cultish angle was supposed to be the point initially, but they've basically spiralled out into a kind of strange ethno-state fascism 🤔 which isn't an unreasonable development, just one the audience would _think_ mutants would consciously avoid. Given that fascist ethno-states work based on excluding "others" from their society. Which, you know... Mutants have fought against forever.
I mean the 70s were 50 years ago now, not a shocking story development them taking a new approach after bashing their head for that whole time.🤷🏻♂️
Things evolving and unraveling was always gonna be a pretty obvious development later down the line.
@@g-roy23Oh, definitely -- I think the unexpected developments I mentioned make Hickman's contributions to X-Men canon all the more valuable *because* of that, too, even if I only enjoy select portions of it. Just because I don't like all of it doesn't mean it's not valuable or "good", which are both relative terms anyway 😉 always important to remember this is art, & art is always going to have subjective value.
Same with me, I started reading UXM in early 80s. I was pretty excited about Hickman coming on, but I read HoX/PoX and the first few issues of X-men, and the whole thing just seemed so mean spirited and off to me - I know a theory was that everyone was being mind controlled or something, not sure if that ever came up in the stories or if it might yet, but regardless it was just not for me.
🤦♂️
What would be the correct reading order on all three of these?
Nice video. Thanks for telling were to read x of swords. Were does inferno fit in?
At the end of this book. So when you’re done with this.
@@NearMintCondition thanks!!! Then I just got to wait when they release it here in the Netherlands.
I hate the cover design 😩
I have ordered the Dauterman DM cover. I don't like the Standard cover at all. I am loving the Hickman run.
I have the direct market cover coming
I would say they should have just made a Jonathan Hickman Xmen Omnibus set. Book one with House of X powers of X and 3 quarters of the Xmen omnibus now up to X of swords 3 issues. Then the second omni with X of swords other half hell fire gala and inferno and the rest of the Xmen omni to finish it off.
I hated it. I got HOXPOX but will not be getting this or any of this era. X-men badly in need of yet another reboot.
Whoever designed that cover needs to be fired
The amazon reviews say the paper quality is poor and there is ink bleeding through the thin pages. Is that true?
If I buy this, what do I read before and after, just so I know, isn’t tying to find my way to Hellfire Gala, trial of magneto and Inferno and don’t even know how to get there
House and powers of x before this. And then x of swords.
Will you still get a good experience from reading this if you don't read house of x and powers of x? I wish they'd keep more hardcover stuff in stock for newcomers.
I’m picking this up, I’m enjoying the era as a whole, instead of cherry picking “Hickman” only titles and just speedrunning an era
Awesome
Happy to add this one to my collection although I find the reading order confusing, given that a few issues in the run are left out and appear elsewhere! I have been buying the Dawn of X collections digitally and will have to figure out what order in which to read them alongside this omnibus. Marvel don't make it easy sometimes.
Would this be a good jumping on point for this era of xmen? thinking of picking this up
I think so. It's mostly single issue stories
He said it in the video. HoXPoX, then this.
So X of swords and that other oversized hardcover is not in this book??
Frustrating that it doesn't include Inferno. Hopefully that will be included in a future Immortal X-Men omnibus.
Inferno is getting his own hardcover
That is one ugly cover and spine. Will still be picking it up as I guess it’s the content inside that matters most 😅👌🏻
I haven't been reading any of the Hickman era of X-Men, but I kinda love how the collected editions all have their own line of trade dresses that match up. It makes it feel like X-Men is its own entity of comics and not just another series of Marvel books.
I like this design.
Never judge an omni by its cover 😄
It's, like, the worst trade dress I've ever seen
How do you the reading the hardcovers vs the DoX trades?
