No more cookies! That's my resolution for the new year. And yeah, I've ordered this, looking forward to reading it again. One of the rare events where the consequences stuck around for more than 2 months after it ended.
House of M OHC is among the first few western comic I ever read concurrent with AXM and NA, and the story and art blew me away. Excellent omni and review as always
I already own the House of M hardcover but I believe I will have to purchase this omnibus. As a completest I need everything. I wish I had picked up the Avengers Disassembled HC years ago.
Great review, Omar! Mapping this event is tricky, when choosing to integrate the stories. I think the mapping here, is porbably for the best. The minis and tie-ins are more like 'Tales of the House of M', and fine to read afterwards - to add depth to one's understanding of the world!
Hehe yes I got what you did there, Omar. I think you did an awesome job although I've never read this asides from a copy of issue one this would be a welcome addition to the collection at some point
Regarding a "Civil War Omnibus", besides the main series there are something like 90 Civil War tie-ins so it would need two omnis at the very least. Perhaps the "Road to Civil War" tie-ins, Civil War #1-7, mini-series and one-shots in the main omni, and then all the tie-ins from ongoing series in a "Civil War Companion Omnibus"? A single "Dark Reign Omnibus" is even more improbable. To collect absolutely everything would need a minimum of four omnis, but more likely it would be five or even six. Even just the various Dark Reign mini-series and one-shots would probably require two omnis.
I pre-ordered it, but I'll probably cancel it. I gotta say, this story doesn't need additional stuff, it ends rapidly as it began and it's pretty annoying, basically kind of like "alternative version", which Bendis would redo in Age of Ultron. Of all the complicated stuff from that period (Civil War....), I have to say that Bendis wrapped up best Secret Invasion and I felt like it really paid off diving through all the tie-ins.
The DM cover is amazing, I am going for that one. But this months already feels expensive because soon is the reprint of Batman and Robin omni by Gleason and Tomasi
To each, his (or her) own. I have been waiting for this omnibus but after learning about the poor mapping (i.e. “proper” or a least “better” reading order needed) I have to - sadly decline from buying this. I have read omnis with lots of tie-ins in between the main event (e.g. Blackest Night omnibus or even the least favoured X-Men/Avengers Onslaught omnibus), I don’t feel the excitements of the event are lost! Therefore, I am firm with my stand that Marvel shouldn’t be using this as a “common excuse” to map omnis poorly.
@@azmiali7982 I agree. I want an event omni with all the tie ins for a reason. Why wouldn’t you want it in reading order if it’s going to include all the tie ins in between. Got the OHC so may not upgrade as there are other omnis that i dont have and will take priority but if you do not have this they buy it the story is great
Having finished it, one thing I’d like to see during the “Previously on” pages is an indication of where it fits in the story. For example with Wolverine, “This series takes place between House of M issues #1 and #2”.
Great review thank you Omar. As a recent returnee to comics and a huge X fan this is one I’ve really been looking forward to. Really appreciate the steer about reading Avengers Disassembled and Astonishing first which I wouldn’t have done otherwise. Keep up the great work.
This book made scarlet witch one of my favorite characters and still is today. And is my favorite in the MCU. Yes I loved vision and scarlet witch show and dr strange 2.
So from what I’ve read so far, this is mapped very similar to World War Hulk and, to a lesser extent, Infinity Gauntlet. Main story at the front, and the rest of the book is all the tie-ins. Very different than say Age of Apocalypse or War of the Bounty Hunters that was released in chronological order. We’ll see if that stays true once I get further into the book.
Just be patient, it is likely only the first distributor batch that sold. I am sure all the retailers will get more batches. This is Marvel, they will print and continue to print a ton of these.
I'd be wary of ordering from Amazon. It might be my local distribution center, but almost every time they ship omnis, it gets mangled. I had to return my last omni three times, before I got a copy I could live with.
Omar do you know why Marvel did not add X-men (1991) 177-181 issues ? I think it is important for the story as an aftermath along with decimation day after, also it was included in the house of m decimation paperback
As you said during the video, this is a very oddly produced event that is very difficult to build a reading order around that doesn't feel like it abandons the plot entirely for big chunks. The Spider-Man one in particular you called out is egregious in that regard and doesn't feel like it fits at all with the main event issues. So it's hard to get mad at the order for this one, and the hardcovers were so long out of print that they're absurdly expensive to get a hold of as well - if you're interested in the event, grab this up quick. That said, please keep trying to use reading orders Marvel! The answer to weirdly written events is not to not try, it is to improve the writing coherency and relevance of the tie-ins in your events so that this isn't a problem in the first place. The recent AXE: Judgement Day event was fantastic in this regard, and when the omnibus eventually comes out, it deserves a proper reading order! I want to keep loving buying these expensive books, so please give it your best effort going forward.
I did pre-order this! Waiting for it to arrive. I remember when the single issues came out - bought them and MOST of the cross-overs. I was happy with them, but not happy, overall, with the return of the event era. They came back with a BANG, then I was bummed with the number and lack of quality. It reached a point where the event books didn't tell enough of the overall story (post House of M) and the crossovers didn't feel relevant enough. So, the balance is there someplace, but... yeah... Anyway, House of M!! Loved the overview... Highlight is always the Walt's Comic Shop jingle. :P Next to that, dead-on with the mapping - with this, it made sense to stick the mini in the beginning, then everything else after. Could the order of the rest be different? Maybe slightly... I'm looking forward to re-reading and getting through what I missed when the originally came out.
Dope! I really liked yur overview of this omnibus especially the suggested reads yu gave in the beginning of the vid really great work 👍🏼 thanks a lot mr. Omar. Being someone new to comics yu have helped me a lot especially wit yur marvel nd X-men reading orders thanks so much 🙏🏼

I try to give these modern comics reviews a chance but I’m always reminded why I quit buying new comics around this period. Glad though that the fans of this story are getting this book. I think no matter what you like we can all agree we want our favorite stories reprinted.
You need to look at the time this was coming out. Jean just died like 2 years before and this was way too soon to bring her back. I was a new reader at the time and this made perfect sense to me.
@@Moshikal15 I think it was more like Marvel was trying hard to put over Scott and Emma as a legit couple to the readers and not something temporary. I'm not sure what you mean by this? There's 14 years in between House of M and House of X. While House/Powers of X was designed as a jumping on point for new readers, it and the subsequent Dawn/Reign/Destiny of X eras do continue and references numerous events that occurred in between House of M and House of X. That Avengers Disassembled arc needs an omni reprint. It's such a good read, and me re-entering comicbookreading after a 10+ year break. Looking forward to that House Of M omni, it's still in preorder at Amazon NL

I really wish that Marvel would stop putting the tie-ins all bunched together after the main series in their omnis. I know some people like that because they feel it messes with the flow of the main event. But for people like me who want to read the whole thing it makes it a huge pain having to look up the order then flip back and forth to read everything in order as it was released, it would be much easier for people who don't want to read the tie-ins to just skip past what they don't want to read while keeping things in order. I much prefer the way DC does their omnis (shame they aren't coming out with many new ones). Am I missing something, is there any other reason that they're doing it this way?
I’ll be honest. The mapping you are wanting would make this book a bad experience to read. People would be so confused why spiderman is here and why characters like iron man are acting so out of character. Flashpoint is a prime example of that. Middle ground I agree, but collected editions are supposed to enhance our reading experience not confuse us.
@@NearMintCondition When you read these how do you go about reading the tie-ins? I guess I was just surprised when I got the Absolute Carnage and King in Black omnis last year and saw that they didn't have the tie-ins laid out in order that I had read them in before they were collected.
the same way I did when they came out. I read the main story first. Then the tie ins. Just because I remember the mess it was when trying to read it weekly with the minis. It just made no sense.
This edition is crap. The pages are cutting out the art, 3mm at the bottom and 2 mm at the exterior of the page (I'm comparing with House of M Premium Edition, so it's not a difference wiht the floppies). I guess Omar did not notice... I do recomend House of M Premium Edition !
Staggeringly lazy writing by Bendis/Waid in this book, both have fallen off, a.... not a little but off a CLIFF into an abyss. Was once great writers, in this both shows they just don't care anymore ,nor do the editors at Marvel who will OK any mish mash of ideas,no matter how bass ackwards they are.
Personally I believe he fell off in the way you describe in the civil war 2 period. I quite enjoyed everything he wrote up until then and suddenly it was as if he'd been replaced. My best guess is that the real Benis is in suspended animation in a Skrull prison somewhere because there should be no way such a once awesome writer should so abruptly become so bad.

New X-men and Fatal Attractions come to mind as well as Uncanny volume 3.
@@NearMintCondition Thank you!!
Do you think Fatal Attractions will get a reprint? It's on the spendy side right now.
@@Crimmando Maybe one day!
That Avengers Disassembled arc needs an omni reprint. It's such a good read, and me re-entering comicbookreading after a 10+ year break. Looking forward to that House Of M omni, it's still in preorder at Amazon NL
Was going to say .... good luck to anyone trying to find a copy of Avengers Disasembled now.
@@Ernasto Perhaps if the reprint of Bendis' GotG omni sells well, Marvel will look into re-printing other Bendis omnis like New Avengers Omnibus vol. 1 (and maybe even produce some new Bendis omnis!)
@@djsuth7727 You could always get the TPB instead - there are second hand copies on both Amazon and eBay for decent prices.
@@bungleist1 That's an option. I wonder if it's on Marvel Unlimited too ?
i'll not be upgrading from the 4 OHC set, the 1st issues are iconic, the rest not so much
SECOND!
Do you just read the the main story first then go read the tie-ins as they are laid out in the book or do you read them in any particular order? I haven't read the Flashpoint omni yet so maybe I'll understand more once get around to that (the backlog is real haha).
Dinastia M
First! 👻
My wallet getting hurt in every way
Watch this go out of stock soon.
lol. It won't.
Does this have any material that is not in the 4 OHCs?
The Hulk Breaker of Worlds. That’s it.
@@NearMintCondition Thank you. Is this different from Hulk: Broken Worlds #1? Because that one's in the HOUSE OF M WOLVERINE IRON MAN and HULK OHC.
@@NearMintCondition Is the Decimation book in the OHCs?
Klaautu Brada Nikto? Necktie?
Crap i hate when they just chunk the stories. I guess I won’t get it.
House of M os less interesting age of apocalypse
Dracula vol 2 please
This edition is crap. The pages are cutting out the art, 3mm at the bottom and 2 mm at the exterior of the page (I'm comparing with House of M Premium Edition, so it's not a difference wiht the floppies). I guess Omar did not notice... I do recomend House of M Premium Edition !
Not a must buy. Main story is cool. Spin offs are not all that. Cash grab. Meh
Bendis was on fire those years. Not sure what you're talking about. His xmen/ civil war 2 is where he lost his mojo
@@jcaceres516 As beauty is in the eye of the beholder ,so is writing quality in entertainment overall. Bendis early work ,same with Waid is amazing super high quality, period, imho. Both in the last 4 to 5+ years aren't writing anymore, its vandalism ,not just 'deconstruction' per se,but deliberate Destruction, open vandalism even, sales data makes that clear,as does the outcry of the fans, aka paying cu$tomer$. Add in the fact both go far far out of their way to openly and fervently attack paying customers, and you get to where we are today with the Big two companies is financial disarray and in freefall as readers are widely abandoning Marvel and Dead Company for Manga,an industry that rightfully caters to customers desires and shockingly, RESPECTS folks ,instead of not just attacking their bread and butter ,but proudly #hitting in the punchbowl(the industry) and attacking customers and other creators for not joining in on their immolation of legacy characters and those not willing to burn it all down ,as Waid and Bendis now spend large amounts of time doing on social media. Luckily we can agree to disagree on all this, and our host Omar encourages such banter and dialogue if done politely. Sadly most under the age of 55 in Western nations, dont know history and cant think critically, and most, certainly dont know the difference between propaganda and escapist entertainment. I hope you and yours have a great week.
So M stands for Magnus? 😂 I always thought it’s Mutants
So did Melanie. But she just reread it last year lol
@@NearMintCondition ngl I’ve never read newer material, I always thought this is like a sitcom but with mutants 😂😂 a goofy spin on teenage mutants
