I posted 2 months ago, right before I had surgery.... my surgery was successful, however.... my pain was terrible the first 3-4 days. about 12-14 hrs after I was home it started....I could feel every movement I made, my foot throbbed, the pressure was awful, weirdest thing was I changed from sweats into shorts and I think the cold air exposure to my nerve receptors was a shock because that was a big start to the pain. It sounds weird but it truly was awful.... I'm 40, been through quite a few painful things and it was definitely one of worst. If you are experiencing pain, use your pain meds, use ice pack, we had a big bandage style one that you could fill with crushed ice and tie around leg to hold it there. Stay off it if hurts. Those first 2 days were really bad but after that it eased itself. Also I recommend as soon as you are able to, start doing things....I went in kitchen, rested knee on a roll chair and did dishes or made coffee or dinner. Each day I added a little more time I was up. My bruising and swelling was pretty excessive first 4 weeks but then started reducing. I'm 8 weeks out and can pretty much do normal life. Toe is stiff but I stretch it and focus on really using it. Everyone experiences different things with this surgery. I'll add this: the Dr will do best to predict what you can expect but remember that can change. Once my Dr got into my foot the arthritis was way worse and required more digging and toe needed more adjusting then what he thought... I'm so glad I did it though 😌definitely worth it. Just listen to your body, don't overdo it and let others help you.
Vionda sorry for late reply. It was worse day 3 and 4.10 out of 10. Day 16 today. Like a champ. No pain for at least week now. Only if I have it down and not elevated more than an hour. Can’t fully move my toes yet. Some movement. I can bare weight on my heel only and move around that way. Much better now. Hope all is well. Probably back at work next week. From home at least. It’s my right foot so can’t drive yet.
I had both feet done but not in the same time. I had absolutely no pain whatsoever with none of them. I walked from the day one with a cane and use only the heel. I healed beautiful and pretty fast
I'm so glad to see your video and hear how your pain levels have been. Most other videos I've seen talk about how awful the pain is that I've been terrified about the surgery.
I had surgery 3 days ago and yesterday when numbing came off was my worst day ever !! I take pain but this was another level , I wish you a speedy recovery
Soooo lucky that your recovery has been great. I am 54...a lot worse when you are my age. Also, I always get so nauseauos after so I asked for a nausea patch to wear before and after the surgery. My toes were are pushing to the pinky toe so they had to break them and straighten them all...EXCRUCIATING pain! Glad yours was great. Pray for us old people who have to have the whole foot done...💕💋
I've just had my bunion operation 4 days ago, the first day I was okay because the epidural was still working. The next 2 days I had pain constanly, couldnt sleep because of the pain and the doctor gave me 4000 mg paracetamol and 1000 mg naproxen a day but it is not quite enough to kill the pain. But last night I managed to get a good night sleep for the first time. I still am in pain but sometimes the pain feels a little like an itchy kind of pain, so its getting better. My experience is on the other spectrum from yours.
I'm the same, had an epidural, Had op Tuesday, Wednesday was good, Thursday - Sunday (now) has been horrible, the pain killers make me feel sick and dizzy but I've had to take them because the pain was bad, I've been on 2 x 500 paracetamol and a Tramadol (I'm allowed 2 but have managed with 1 otherwise I would be sick)
thats not a boot, thats a surgical shoe and they are not 10 pounds, have the exact one, I was in a boot casr for 6 weeks after my bunion surgery than in the surgical shoe for 2 weeks after. You might have had minimally invasive surgery, but traditional bunion surgery is very painful.
You are right, it makes a big difference which type of surgery and which method was used. I just had Arthrodesis surgery done (not minimally invasive, that is not covered by our health insurance) and it was hell for 2 days. The pain medication was not sufficient (diclofenac, naproxen + paracetamol). After 2 days it was bearable. Now after 10 weeks it feels very stiff and I can walk carefully but not longer than appox. 30min or the foot gets very sore and swollen the next day. Iĺl try the exercises that are still possible after arthrodesis and hope that will help. If I can walk again without any problems, it was still worth it. But for my other foot, I will demand much stronger pain medication! Good luck all!

I just had my left foot done 4 days ago, and at 54yr old..it's been a breeze. They are really bad bunions on my feet. But the last year it's gotten horrible as far as trying to just walk down the hall.
That’s a great recovery . You are very young and your bunions don’t look that bad. I’m over 64 and will have a plate in the toe and two toes need to be broken and pins in so mine will be painful , but hoping not 🙏🙏
Getting it done before the age of 30 was important to me since the doctors kept saying I had strong bones. Figured it would help with recovery. I did move to Jersey City and walk about 7 miles a day. So however the doctor did my surgery didn't plan for me to be walking so much. I had to have corrective surgery on my left foot because the screw was scraping my bone. So now I have a plate which is still a bit swollen a year later and two more screws in my left foot.

I'm having bunion surgery on my left foot in February 2020 at least I know what to expect this time. Hope you feel better.
Chrissy 37 I just had my right foot done yesterday and want to do my left foot this year since I hit my insurance deductible. My Right was so bad as it actually developed an open wound. I surely don’t want my left foot to get to that point! He said after 6-8 wks I could do the other but I might wait till early April so I’m pretty healed by summer or else later in the fall.
Thank you for sharing, im having surgery in 16 days and just been hearing everyone say how bad the pain is, so nice to hear you say the opposite. I do think a lot of it is based off your starting health. Nervous still but like you the pain is terrible when it flares up.
@Ellie Stafford my pain was terrible the first week or so, way worse than I thought or Dr thought would be. But he said once he got into my toe during surgery, there was a lot more arthritis tissue that he had to dig through and had to change position of toe more than planned. The pain subsided day over day. It was mainly the swelling that kept bothering me. I had to keep my foot elevated a lot and took about 5-6 weeks for that to be tolerable. At 7 weeks no pain minimal swelling and i finally felt comfortable enough to get out of boot and wear shoes or bare feet, the issue then was lots of stiffness with toe, so I started doing physical therapy exercises to loosen joint which helps. My biggest piece of advice is trust your body, listen to your Dr but don't baby it, it will tell you if doing too much. (I pushed it more than should, maybe, but my Dr knew I would lol). By about 10 weeks i was pretty much back to pre surgery level, even better because I don't have the arthritis bunion pain like before and know it will take 6 months - year to have full recovery. I wear an ankle compression band that covers my foot and toes, which helps support my foot when going to be on it a lot or working out. Sorry for the long answer, but I thought it may help or give you some tips or insight. I don't regret the surgery at all!!!! My quality of life is already getting better, and I'm excited for things I will be able to do that I was scared to do before. I hope your recovery is smooth and you get relief from what many have no clue is terrible to live with :)

Annette Melnychuk I think with the first foot I did it took about a year. I had like phantom pain if that makes sense. The second foot took about a couple months.
I had to keep my boot on for about three weeks. It was more for protecting my foot and keeping it from bending before the bone has strong enough. But when my foot was elevated or when I was in bed I was allowed to take my boot off.
Which type of bunion surgery did you use? I have 2 bunions of my two foot and I want to removed them, but I just want to know which surgery is the best one to remove bunions?
Thought the same, wish mine were that straight, I look like I have an extra toe sticking out it's that bad, even my right one I've had done is bigger than that 😭😭😭 hate my feet and my joints
Do you think the pain of recovery can be managed with without-narcotics? Only because I need the surgery too & I am unable to take narcotics. So, this makes me extremely nervous.
I think so. I didn't take any of the narcotics I was given. My doctor told me to take ibuprofen for pain. The narcotics were just in case the pain was so unbearable that the ibuprofen wasn't helping. Thankfully I only took one ibuprofen the day of my surgery because I was starting to feel the medicine from surgery wearing off.
Tania Jones hey did u get it yet ? This is at day 2 of mine I am not taking the meds they gave me I’m in some pain but it’s like whatever I’ll get through it , I’m just taking Tylenol.
@@wonderwomen4495 no, I did not get it yet. I've been procrastinating. I did some research, my doctor says I'm a candidate for the minimally invasive surgery, so I'll be getting that one done.
Shelly Cutts i was walking completely normal after about three weeks. My doctor told me to keep my foot up as much as possible to get the swelling to go away as fast as possible. I also don’t work. The people he did surgery on who did work, he told they could go back to work after a week. Everyone heals differently. When I did my left foot I was putting on my weight on it after the second day.
I’ve never heard that one before. But the no pain could be because I was young with really strong bones and I try to never take painkillers for anything 🤷🏻♀️
Hi, I had just turned 29 when I had my surgery. I think my bunion was mild but slightly worse than what the doctor could see with xrays. But I would save it was severe. It did start to hurt even when I wasn't wearing any shoes. I'm going in to get my left foot done February 22. I'll still be 29 when I have it done but just a couple weeks before turning 30. I'm going to try and get a before photo of my foot. I'm hoping I have a smooth recovery again.
@@arianajohnson2794 I was nervous too. They gave me some medicine to calm my nerves before surgery. It's a pretty simple surgery and should only take 45 mins. I'm sure you'll do great. Wow you are one lucky girl. I am 2 weeks post op my left foot. This is the most excruciating surgery I have ever had.
Oh no. I hope it gets better soon.
I agree sadly
i m for Button surgery the 12th of this month. How is the recovery
I had a great recovery process. I had to pain and was walking in regular shoes in less than a month.
I’m scheduled to have a Austin bunionectomy. Is that what you had?
Yes. Should take about 45 mins to get done.
Wow, mine took 3 hours 😯
I am 8 weeks post op and was wondering how long was it for to notice weird sensations were gone?
Annette Melnychuk I think with the first foot I did it took about a year. I had like phantom pain if that makes sense. The second foot took about a couple months.
@@mimirhyne oh okay. I am still getting pain and intense it even at almost 4 months post op
do you have to keep the boot everytime?
I had to keep my boot on for about three weeks. It was more for protecting my foot and keeping it from bending before the bone has strong enough. But when my foot was elevated or when I was in bed I was allowed to take my boot off.
Hopefully it does not return as one of mine did and had a second operation
Which type of bunion surgery did you use? I have 2 bunions of my two foot and I want to removed them, but I just want to know which surgery is the best one to remove bunions?
I believe mine was called Austin bunionectomy. It took about 45 mins for the surgery.
I've recently had lapiplasty bunion surgery, the best bunion surgery option out there in my opinion, and am making update videos if you're interested
@@GabrielMonet where is the link to follow you?
@@WithLoveMMone or both ?
@@Mirzaa87 I had both done but not at the same time.
Bloodyhell to me there's no bunion on your left foot, mine is massive and this is the second time having it done!
Oh wow. Yeah my doctor said that it was a lot worse than he thought when he opened foot up. Hope they can finally fix yours.
Thought the same, wish mine were that straight, I look like I have an extra toe sticking out it's that bad, even my right one I've had done is bigger than that 😭😭😭 hate my feet and my joints
Did you have to sleep with the boot on ?
No, I had my foot elevated on a pillow while I slept for about a week.
who did your surgery. I live in Orlando
His name is Dr. Walter Roth in Lake Mary, FL
@@WithLoveMMthank u
@@WithLoveMM oh okay. Thanks. This is reassuring to hear.
@@wonderwomen4495 no, I did not get it yet. I've been procrastinating. I did some research, my doctor says I'm a candidate for the minimally invasive surgery, so I'll be getting that one done.
I won't lie the ankle block wears off after two days then yes you need to have a pain management plan
So we’re you really able to walk normal a couple weeks after this video
Shelly Cutts i was walking completely normal after about three weeks. My doctor told me to keep my foot up as much as possible to get the swelling to go away as fast as possible. I also don’t work. The people he did surgery on who did work, he told they could go back to work after a week. Everyone heals differently. When I did my left foot I was putting on my weight on it after the second day.
Im four days out and have had no pain
That's awesome.
Spring Sogourn wow. That’s awesome. In pain, tolerable at day 3
I got my left foot 🦶 second day the pain is killing me I can’t sleep 😴
oh no. hopefully the pain passes quickly.
I had surgery today, just like your leg😭💔
I hope you have a fast recovery
Great video; thank you!
Elizabeth Allbrook you’re welcome
Usually if you have no pain is because you consume cocaine or a hard drug be careful don’t abuse drugs over some feet 🦶
I’ve never heard that one before. But the no pain could be because I was young with really strong bones and I try to never take painkillers for anything 🤷🏻♀️
Hello just wondering how old are you and what kind of a bunion did you have mild of severe?
Hi, I had just turned 29 when I had my surgery. I think my bunion was mild but slightly worse than what the doctor could see with xrays. But I would save it was severe. It did start to hurt even when I wasn't wearing any shoes. I'm going in to get my left foot done February 22. I'll still be 29 when I have it done but just a couple weeks before turning 30. I'm going to try and get a before photo of my foot. I'm hoping I have a smooth recovery again.
Good luck with your left foot too angel 💞💞💞
hello im 13 years old and im gona have a bunion surgery
Wow, I didn’t know a person could be so young with that issue. I hope the surgery goes well.
Mārtiņš Fonovičš I am 13 also and I have my surgery next week and I am really nervous
@@arianajohnson2794 I was nervous too. They gave me some medicine to calm my nerves before surgery. It's a pretty simple surgery and should only take 45 mins. I'm sure you'll do great. My surgery for my left foot is this Friday. Right now I'm calm since I've already had my right foot done. But I know I'll start to get nervous right before the surgery.
koi dragon same!
i’m 14 and getting it june 5th. i’m terrified
12/13/2018 - no te quejes de la bota ... ma mia llega hasta mi rodilla!!!! I prefer yours!
