    What a sweetheart of a Scottie! Thank you for your excellent tutorial! It gives me the confidence I’ve needed to do this for our rescue Scottie, who doesn’t yet seem ready to be groomed by a “stranger”.

      Thank you! If you have any questions, never hesitate to ask. I try my best through words. I would also suggest that you go over her with your tools a few times a week, even if you are not actually clipping or trimming anything. Just run the clipper vibration over your scottie's face, ears, feet and feed them treats as you do it. Just getting use to the touch and vibrations of the whole process while feeding them yummy food will help make a calmer experience. If or when you do decide to find a groomer, then you know little rescue scottie will be able to get to know this strange new person comfortably and not stress over what would have been the new noises of the grooming process. Congrats on you're new family member and happy grooming 😊

    • @Dognormousllc
      @Dognormousllc  Рік тому +1

      Hand strippers are hard to find these days. You could always try the scottie club of america, maybe there is a breeder near you who would be willing to take you on. Otherwise you could always try nationaldoggroomers.com/groomer-locator and see if there is a certified terrier groomer within your range.

      Good luck!! Take it slow and I know you will do great 💕 Remember, you have the luxury of taking breaks whenever you or your two scotties need it. Something us groomers don't always have being on a schedule.

    Try holding my Scotties head up, like in the first part, and see what happens. Butt slides backwards and paw comes up to rake at clipper hand. She's a really good dog and responds to commands, even when she doesn't want to, however try and groom her and it all goes away.

    How do you get in so close to the ears without hurting her? We've tried to clip around our scoot's ear and usually at some point during the procedure we end up drawing blood....and it takes lots of loving, treats and first aid to bring her back to the grooming table. Many years ago, my father in law was clipping their scoot and cut her ears.....she turned and bit right through his hand- it was a bloody mess.....literally. Since that time he doesn't clip around the ears unless he absolutely has to......can't say I blame him, and that was two scotties ago. Great informative video- our scottie has been diagnosed with Lymphoma, and we're not sure how much time we have left with her.....we couldn't get her rabies/distemper shots because of this (dr's orders)....and she needs a spa day. When we lay her to rest, we want her to maintain her dignity as a scottie:-)

      Without seeing how you are going about clippering or scissoring the ears, it would be hard to say exactly where you went about accidentally nicking her. With that said, I'll try my best to give you some pointers. With clippers, try and keep them flat on the leather of the ear. Using your fingers to help support the ear will give you a better surface to clipper against. Also, when clipping the inside of the ear, try a starburst 🌟 way, put your clippers flat in the middle and work you way outward to the ear leather. This kind of helps you clipper over those little ear flaps vs going from leather to center of ear which would make cutting those flaps easier. If scissoring around the ear leather is where you find your bleeding mistake, I would suggest that you always trim the hair with the tips of your scissors pointing towards the tip of the ear. The hair naturally pushes the the scissors away from the ear leather where as pointing the tips of your shears towards the ear base will drag the snip towards the eat leather. You can use your finger nails to help identify the leather of the ear and use them as guards from the scissors. We all would rather snip ourselves than our pup. I'm sorry to hear about your girls diagnoses. The only hardship of being a dog owner is the dreaded goodbye we know we will one day have to make. I hope that these tips can help maintain her scottie looks and give her a big kiss from me right on her nose for being such a wonderful and brave girl 💗
