    Actually many Filipino graphic artists and animators work for Disney, Marvel, etc. Some of the popular characters in Walt Disney movies are created by Filipino animators. Anime series have always been the past time of many Filipino chuldren since the 1970s so it's not surprising that a Philippine network have an adaptation of this well loved anime series in the Philippines.

    this is one of the legacy of Japanese mecha anime. all the new generations of mecha anime came from them. from astro to this and then to gundum and so on. to note some anime finish products that are popular are created in the Philippines like one piece. all though the mangaka and the main studio is in Japan. so you could say that Philippines and Japan have been working together for a long time already to bring some of the anime we love today.

    To clarify, it did not "suddenly get popular somehow in the PH these days". It has always been popular here in the PH since like, the 80s and its popularity simply never dropped. It "stayed popular", not "suddenly got popular again". Even with its fame in the 80s, PH television channels still continued to air the anime up til the late 2000s. It's so popular here that it is a song readily available in all our Karaokes. Maybe that's why TOEI decided to do this project with us. Because they can see the love the Filipinos have for this series. Perhaps even more so than the Japanese themselves. Also, there's a reason why Voltes V resonated so much with the Filipino people. I remember my grandpa, who was a mayor during some dark times here in the PH, telling me that Voltes V somehow gave people enjoyment (and even hope some would say) during one of our country's darkest times (years).

Basically pinoys waited so long for final chapters to be view. Voltes V also followed by Daimos.

    T'was very popular in the Phils. in the early 80's. My son grew up with V5 and Transformers. He was crazy about them. I remember sending him toys and robots of V5 and Transformers from Japan where I was working for years in Tokyo. There's a certain charisma about Voltez 5 that I also enjoyed watching w/ my son back in the days. Sending him betamax tape (there was no CD or VCD yet those days) with it made him more crazy😁.

  • @diobrando19
    @diobrando19 2 роки тому +43

    Some of the reasons why Voltes V is still widely popular here in the Philippines is because:
    - For most Filipinos (myself included) it was our first super robot anime as kids. The show literally had reruns for several years, and was brought back during the 80s (after the show was banned during the Martial Law era) and found a brand new audience, alongside the fans who first watched it during the 70s. Then it was brought back again during the 90s, as well as in the early 2000s. That is over 40 years of reruns and a large generation of fans who grew up watching Voltes V on local air TV here in the Philippines.
    - The story about family is something that is highly appealing to Filipinos. It made the whole story more relatable to more Filipinos, because we can relate to parents being away from their kids, due to the OFW phenomenon that is still persistent to this day.
    - We have, in a way, adopted Voltes V as our national super robot. While it is made and produced in Japan, we Filipinos are the ones who kept him relevant and popular for over 40 years and still is popular to this day.

      That was an excellent explanation brother. The fact that it was so popular during 70’s and 80’s that only 30% of the population that time owns a television set and some kids ( including me ) had to watch it from outside their neighbours windows. Other kids with tv in their house had to fight with their dads over FPJ’s movies to watch😂😂😂

    Voltez V is very famous here in the Philippines in the 80's. It was so famous that it was banned by the government because its theme revolved around resistance and rebellion and that didn't sit well with a dictatorial regime at that time. Years after the cancellation and martial law era, it was re-aired again by the very same channel, GMA. Imagine our joy when it was re-aired again because finally we can witness how the series will end.

    I think the reason for the popularity is that fact that it is among the first "cartoon" - anime that was a series. something about the characters unfold every episode. It wasn't simply a day to day routine of the characters. I found it even more interesting when I read the whole story about the heirachy of the Bozanian (one horn, two horns) and how they ended up interacting with earthlings.
    Looking forward. I'm excited.
    Hope GMA does justice to this classic (in my book).

    "Why is it so popular in the Philippines?", because for majority of the Filipinos at the time, this was our first introduction to Anime! Along, with Mazinger Z and the other "giant robots", the Go Rangers, and Sanrio, this in a way was our first exposure to Japanese culture. Of course many years before that there was the 1960s TV series "The Samurai", Gigantor, Astro Boy (Atomo), but this was by far the big wave of Japanese shows (hence, culture) that was imported by the Philippines in the late 70s/ early 80s.

    Did you know that some of the graphic animator of avengers etc are Filipino. All you need is a good program and time to create realistic cgi.
