"Repotting" may be a basic topic and you can probably find hundreds of videos about it. However, you're the only person who goes through the process from A to Z and give expert tips on the side that you can't easily find everywhere. I highly doubt other videos explain repotting the way you did. This is truly the best repotting video online.

hi sir .... in these days m regular follower of your videos. Thanks for making quality based content. After learning from you I also transformed a ficus plant to ficus bonsai.
Im about to repot a small ficus i think it is. Its mid may. So this is a great vid. It looks in a bad way. Not sure its too late for it. There has been flies round it for a while. Ive dried it out for about a week or so.
Awesom work David as always - ive enjoyed your videos since finding you on TIKTOK and your arrival here on UA-cam, i have recently completed the $50 challenge that been going around and you were one of my challenges to complete it. i hope you have time to do it - either way keep the great content coming and as always i'll see you again in the next one!
@@BonsaiSociety Your more than welcome, the $50 dollar challenge was started by a UA-camr to see if you could go to a local store and get a tree a pot and solid to make a bonsai on a budget of $50. I have learnt a lot from you watching your videos please keep them coming i know you will. Scott from letsdobonsai
Hey brother do you tend to always use your mediums in this order? Just trying to get a solid way down at work well. I've got a little larger rocks on the bottom 3/16 to half inch mixed with a little horticultural pumis. Mixed that end with sandy pinebark soil the tree was thriving in. Inserted juniper p. So I'm thinking of on top another layer of pumice and the large akadama was fine akadama on top? Now that sounds like a lot just trying out some new stuff and like the way you did you're medium look like your tree was thriving . PS I live in East Tennessee it is awesome humid here from this time on I'm good about watering everyday and have drilled a pretty good-sized hole in the bottom of the pot
Hi David. I’ve been struggling with the kind of fertilizer. My bonsai guy in my town sells a 18-6-12 mixture but he’s hard to get to sometimes with my work schedule. I hear a fe people use Osmocote. Which one, the pink bottle (Start-Release Plus) which is 15-9-12 or the green ( just called Osmocote (Flower & Vegetable)which is 14-14-14. I have used the local guy’s one for the 2 years I’ve been lost in Bonsai but just wonder if the Osmocote is ok to switch to. I live in East central Florida if that matters. Plants are 3 varieties of Ficus and 3 of the Jade’s.
Great video ! Few questions does the charcoal interact with the mycorrhizae and should u put mycorrhizae in every kind of tree? Also read if u spray ur trees with a fungicide it can kill the mushrooms in the pot? This true? Thanks great videos
Charcoal does not react with the mycorrhizae. Yes mycorrhizae can be used with all trees but certain trees require different species of mycorrhizae so you must learn which types of trees require which type of mycorrhizae. There are only 2 types of systemic fungicides that will kill all the mycorrhizae in your soil. They are Benomyl and Aliettte so stay away from those if you don't want to kill your mycorrhizae
@@BonsaiSociety thank u very much for clearing this up. Now when u say it will kill them do u mean the tree will absorb it through the leaves and will kill them? I appreciate the knowledge ! Thanks . Im 5 years in and still learning. Thank u dave!
Is it ok to repot my ficus in the summer if i bring it in the house. I have roots growing out of the bottom of the pot. I keep my growing room about 72°F
Hi Dave I just found your videos yesterday and I’m really enjoying them. I’ve been doing bonsai for a couple years now and still learning. But I’m having difficulty overwintering them. I have a little greenhouse and I placed them all in there for the winter. But so many died. I didn’t insulate the greenhouse or the pots. I just placed them in and closed it. My heart was broken when I seen how many had died. What should I do differently this fall to save my trees?I live in NB, Canada so it can get pretty cold. Kim🇨🇦🍁
A greenhouse is one of the worst place to overwinter because during the day the greenhouse heats up and the trees unthaw and at night the temperature in the greenhouse drops drastically and the roots refreeze so this desastrous for keeping bonsai alive. You are better off keeping them in an insulated garden shed or a cold garage and keep the temperatures between 0 and 5 degrees celsius
Hi Dave I have another question for you. I have 2 Japanese dappled willow bonsai that will be going into the garage with the other bonsai However I’m unsure how to care for them over the winter to prevent them from dying. Is there anything different you do for these plants where their willows? Kim

I dont understant the ginsing part... do you know if the original plant was a grafted species. Are the cuttings i have still considered retusa ginsing or just ficus retusa? Very often grafted another microcarpa species on the rootstock. The ficus in this vid is a miceocarpa not a retusa. Years of mislabeling
Yep its not a retusa.100% microcarpa variety. Its years of misinfo and mislabeling from shitty nurseries. Kinda crazy that a great artist like this also mislabels it

So i can change the pot and the soil at the end of the summer? I see everywere people say to do that in the early spring.. 🤔
David, what kind or strength of humic and fulvic acid do you use? I can’t find “rich earth” in Toronto
