    Let's go!!
    Thanks to everyone for watching!
Welcome to Episode 17 of Ordinary Drag Races, we're glad you're here!
For this episode we have two of the fastest half ton pickup trucks currently on the market, the F-150 3.5L EcoBoost and the GMC Sierra 1500 Carbon Pro with the 6.2L V8 engine.
Both of these things have a ton of power all throughout the RPM range, both of them have 10 speed transmissions and they also weigh within 200lbs of one another - this was a fantastic race!
Please keep letting us know what vehicles you'd like to see pitted against one another and we'll do our best to make it happen!

The GM definitely does stand a chance for sure but the PowerBoost has the faster 1/4 mile time and comes out on top. For us it came down to the launch. If the Sierra was launched better or sooner than the PowerBoost then it was able to take the win. But at the end of the day, the PowerBoost is definitely the faster truck

@molon labe 😂😂 ok. We don’t have any bias on this channel. We line the vehicles up, we run them (in various different modes, with and without brake torquing, etc) and that’s it. There are TONS of factors that can affect the 1/4 mile time of trucks these days. Elevation, trim, rear end ratio, how far the race is, etc etc etc. Additionally, the newer Sierra’s with the 10 speed transmissions are very quick. The Sierra has come with the 6.2 for a long time but had a 6 speed for ages and it was a dog. The new 10 speed tranny did wonders for the acceleration of that GM. Also consider that we race right at sea level too (altitude makes a massive difference when comparing NA vs Turbo engines) so the 6.2 has all of its available power. To give you an idea of how fast that truck is, it even keeps up with the new PowerBoost, as shown in the link below. The PB does have the faster 1/4 mile time but only by a hair. Bottom line it’s just a fast truck.

@@KingdomAuto Yes the 10 speed 6.2s are a bit quicker. It was nice of Ford to co-design that for them because of all the problems they have had with there own tranny's. I'm at Carolina Dragway at least once a month running my turbo Mustang, and we are at sea level. Nothing like killing tuned 6.2s with the truck I towed my car to the track with. Never thought I would ever have a 6 cyl truck. If someone builds a faster v8 that will also out tow this Ecoboost, I will buy it.

It's not really about fair or unfair. The series we are filming is simply about daily driver vehicles, racing against each other (Hence "Ordinary Drag Races"). In this case, the GM is faster. Check out our other videos to see what we've been doing:
      ua-cam.com/video/DK-VUTu3fnY/v-deo.html&ab_channel=KingdomAutoConsulting
We had both of these trucks available, both of them look quite even on paper (very similar power to weight overall), so we matched them up on the 1/4 mile and the GM came out on top.

As a racer I know the driver makes alot of diffetence... it is cool that the little v6 has 1/2 the displacement and is right there. NA motors are so inefficient compared to boosted motors... it takes more to make more. Not bad but I have raced several gmc 6.2 trucks and this never happened... interesting for sure. I would like to see fords best (powerboost) against gms best 6.2... that would be more fair imo

    • @KingdomAuto
      @KingdomAuto  2 роки тому +1

In a situation like this, the driver really won't make much of a difference at all (when racing faster vehicles that are harder to launch, or racing around a track, yes, you are absolutely correct, but in a case like this; not so much). Apart from turning the trucks on Sport and putting your foot to the floor, there's not much else that can be done (yes we tried brake torquing as well and no change in the result, including brake torquing the Ford and not doing the same in the GM)
The reason we put these two trucks up against one another is because up until this point in our series, the F-150 was king of the hill in terms of everything else it had raced. We found a 6.2 GM and lined the two of them up and this was the result. So it wasn't really a case of "what's fair" as it was "can anything beat the 3.5 EcoBoost"?
Keep in mind that the older 3.5 F-150's were down on power compared to the newer ones, by a pretty significant amount as well.
Ford's best is actually the Limited F-150 which puts out the same HP/TQ numbers as a Raptor, and although the PowerBoost makes more TQ, it's also far heavier due to the batteries and hybrid motor, so overall power to weight goes to the Limited; it would be amazing to get one of those out to the track!
But as for your comment about the PowerBoost Vs. the 6.2 Sierra, yes, we have done that. The video will be released soon :)
      Cheers!

Take a look at the 1/4 mile times posted around the internet for the new 10 speed 6.2 Sierra’s/Silverado’s. They’re right on par with the new 2021+ 3.5 EcoBoost’s. There’s plenty of footage around that shows how fast these trucks are.
The older versions of the Chev with the 6 speed transmissions were dogs, very slow. New 2021+ have far better gearing for racing.

Yeah agreed. Ford folks don't seem to know how quick those newer 10 speed 6.2's are (ourselves included). The older GM's were quite a bit slower in the 1/4 mile compared to the 3.5 EcoBoost trucks but that new 10 speed transmission is wild.
Could also be that TFL truck raced these trucks about a year ago and the GM lost by a landslide but that's gotta be because they're racing at 10,000 feet above sea level. Our track is only 500 ft above so the GM makes way more power with more oxygen.
Another thing to note is that Ford tuned up the F-150's to make quite a bit more power in 2021 so the newer ones are much more evenly matched to the 6.2 when compared to the F-150 we used in this video.
What was very surprising to us though, was that the 6.2 even hangs right with the new F-150 PowerBoost as well.

@@yfarmeaahka We certainly do our best to reply to comments and take our audience's recommendations :) The next race we're releasing (this Monday) actually came highly recommended and we had the chance to get the vehicles so we made it happen. @SilverRaven1959 yep we have had that comment many times about TFL truck but take a look at where they race. They’re in Boulder CO so likely between 5000 and 6000+ feet above Sea Level.
That will make a massive difference in performance, when the GM is naturally aspirated and the Ford is turbocharged (forced induction engines perform much better at altitude when compared to NA).
We race basically right at Sea Level so that gives the GM it’s actual amount of power.
Proof is the fact that the best time TFL could get their 6.2 in the 1/4 mile was over 16 seconds, that’s ridiculously slow. We had ours as fast as low 14’s.
Re: your comment about the 6.2 being modified, it’s completely stock. All we said was that the “Carbon Pro” trim comes from the factory with a slightly different intake and louder exhaust, but performance is exactly the same.

When the Sierra’s had the outdated 6 speed transmissions, totally agree. With the new 10 speeds that they have, they’re a seriously fast truck. Another factor you’ve got to consider is the altitude at which we’re racing, we’re basically right at sea level which gives the GM all of its available power.
TFL truck is a prime example of this, they raced these trucks but they’re around 10,000 feet above sea level which will cause a massive change in performance, especially with a naturally aspirated engine. Turbo’s have the advantage at higher altitudes.
This specific 6.2 Sierra even keeps up with a new PowerBoost, video for reference below (PowerBoost is faster but by less than a tenth of a second in the 1/4 mile)

That’s an incorrect statement. The turbos are located where the front grill is but the intake is located higher up in the engine bay and takes cold air in from close to where the hood closes.

@@NAZTYPONY007 yes you can… I’ve personally checked the axel codes on the door stickers and have personally seen the 3.5’s come with 3.73 gears. Not sure where you got that info from but 3.73 gearing is definitely available with the 3.5 engine. Both the Ford in this video and the PowerBoost we raced had a 3.73 rear end. I don’t know if that’s because we’re in Canada but without a shadow of a doubt, the trucks I mentioned had 3.73 gearing according to the door sticker.
We’re not doing anything wrong my friend. What is there to get wrong in a 1/4 mile drag race? We brake boost the F150 to build boost, we launch the trucks at various RPM’s in various modes to test everything out and see what we can get the fastest time with and no matter what we do, the GM came out on top (aside from the the PowerBoost, that beat the AT4).
Keep in mind we’re racing at sea level so the GM will have all of its available power. Altitude makes a huge difference when racing these trucks.
With regards to overall 1/4 mile time, we tend to have slower times when compared to drag strip and “dragy” timing because we go frame by frame and time the vehicles that way, so it’ll always be a tad slower than an actual drag strip because of how we calculate the time.
Bottom line, depending on the options, it’s very possible for the new 6.2’s to take a 3.5 F150 in a race. Just depends on a few factors and options that the trucks come with.

I beat those on a regular basis with my 19 Sierra Denali 6.2 (Ultimate Pack) which weighs in at 4972 lbs without the use of the carbon pro bed either. Turns out, there's quite a bit of aluminum trickery going on with these new GMC's and Ford really doesn't have an answer for them either since even the Coyote is slower than the Ecoboost.

Overall it does seem as though a lot of people don’t realize how quick the new 6.2’s are with the 10 speed transmission. That new tranny did wonders for the truck.
As for the race between the 6.2L Sierra and 6.4L Ram Rebel, that would likely be a fantastic race, if we can get our hands on a 6.4 we’ll line it up for sure, as we have access to the Sierra any time :)
