Why do I feel like a big child being excited watching this. Amazing layout!
The quickest 4 minutes I've ever spent. Lovely!
Glad you enjoyed it! 🚂
What a great idea for a video, if only we could make it in four mins! We are currently on our third attempt to finish a layout bit this one is on track and we are also going to do video up dates. Love the site.
You do beautiful modeling I love the paper buildings must have taken a lot of patience.
I wish I could build mine in 4 minutes. It's taken about 6 months so far...
He probably took ages to build this
_It's a joke on the misleading title._
LukewMorgan mine took 2 years and 5 mouths so far!
Mine took 2 years
Hello Simon, looks very similar to my layout but yours is better.
I decided to have lights in the buildings (lyddle end) after it was complete. I coudn't rearlly take them off the board once they where in situ so I went to the trouble of doing all the fitting/wiring from underneath the board ....... failure. No matter how dim the lighting was it showed through the walls/roof of the buildings. I did manage to get one building up and black painted the inside.... didn't make any diffence. At least I managed to get station/road lights on the go.
Steve Thomas Thanks Steve, yes I didn't really plan the lighting properly, makes it so much harder to add! Like your layout, looks great (had a look at the V2 video) loads of little details in there.
Cheers,
Simon
Come one...be honest...you built it in 4minutes 24seconds ;)
Simon Demaine Dude its abvioulsly 4 minutes 24 sec and 4 mileseconds
What caused the water damage to the cardboard buildings and background?
A leak in the shed roof 😳
it doesn't take 4 minutes you need to let things dry it takes more time.
This is just a montage of him building his model railway. The full building process is in a playlist
Pretty neat video. Thanks for sharing I liked and subbed to your channel 😃
Hey, I liked this! This is making me think about the design for an N scale layout I'm planning on building. What are the dimensions of this layout?
+icverano525 Thanks! it's about 80 x 120 cm.
Nice one Simon ...if only just 4 minutes !!!
Thanks David, ha ha, yes, would be great to get all that done in 4 mins.
Nice video, my toddler can't stop watching! Also, very nice song. Is it just youtube stock or do you know its details?
edrxedrx Thanks, really pleased with how this one turned out! Yes the song is from the UA-cam free audio library, its called "Believer".
Great to see it all again, even the dreaded rain damage. Seeing it from plan to fruition is amazing.
Ian
Thanks Ian, was fun putting the vid together (and putting the layout itself together!).
Nice layout. Love n gauge /n scale. Building a very detailed 24in by 24in layout and have watched your water video and this one. Got a few ideas here and there. I only have a single loop of 9-3/4 but it's amazing how much I'm able to add to such a small layout. So far have a tunnel a coal mine area a pond area that will have a farm house barn and small pasture. A church scene and a small town.
Danny Hamby Thanks Danny, it is amazing how much you can get into a small space with n gauge.Good luck with your layout.
How to think off a stupid title in 4 minutes..
Beautiful job, looks great Simon!
How fun was that! Thank you for sharing and building such a beautiful layout.
Him: Builds it in 4 minutes
Me: *It’s fee real estate*
Not funny bro
Nice layout shows what you can achieve in a relatively small space. Thanks for the video.
An excellent video. Hello from the Tracy Mountain Railway in Colorado. ♡ T.E.N.
This comment section is so toxic, do people not understand that the creator means the video is a step-by-step progress video that goes for 4 minutes? Also, the creator wasn’t lying about 4 minutes, have you ever heard of rounding numbers to the nearest tenth, hundredth or in this case minute?
wooosh
Well done.. Looks good
I see you've got a little 'assistant'. We have two kittens who try to 'help' around the house! :)
You did my idea! It is brilliant to see a blank piece of wood evolving, survive a potential disaster and become a working piece of art. Very inspiring!
Mike.
Yep, tried putting the a few clips together and it looked good, so carried on and added the music from UA-cam's audio library, really pleased with how it turned out. Thanks for the idea!
Simons Shed You're very welcome. Had the idea from looking back through my own N gauge shelf layout on a forum. Banks Hill on RMweb if you fancy a look.
Cheers, Mike.
The video is sped up to 4 minutes. It actually would take maybe an hour.
You ARE a proooooooooo
thanks for sharing...nice work....looks good
niemand schafft das in vier min.
I'd also like to build a model (for those 5 minutes a day) with a child who leaves you, and his mom calling me every 10 seconds to help in household chores! However good, nice job!
Vulcano_ Thanks! I know its tough to find the time, I just try and do a bit here and there whenever I get a chance.
I would like to build a model railway in 1 minute
whats the song that's playing??. it's doing my head in heard it before but don't know where
Its from the youtube audio library, called "Believer" ua-cam.com/users/audiolibrarymusic
Wow great. Reminds me of my childhood days...
What make of track did you use here Simon - and could you also please tell me which software.
Christian Kerr I used Peco track. Its code 55 track (they call it 'finescale'). The software os Railmodeller classic for the Mac.
Which brand has an e2 v2 tank engine in n gauge ? I searched very long but there are not so much...
hmmm sorry don't know of any in N gauge. anyone else know?
Brilliant, congratulations.
Well done, I think it's a brilliant layout, the lighting is great.
far too small and it took more than 4 minutes
Are you having any Indian train model
Seems like this is depicting early 50s (approx) and I just want to suggest removing the yellow bus stop road markings. Yellow road markings did not exist in those days. In fact road markings were very few except for dashed white centre markings and a HALT marking at road junctions etc. I have three post card views of Northampton town centre (early 50s) complete with a traffic island at a road junction and the traffic is quite busy but there are no road markings whatsoever. It is only in more modern times that roads became congested with a plethora of markings and signs. All the best.
nice work Simon :-D good to see how it all began right up till present :-D Keep em coming.
Hi Simon I love this video this is one of my faves your channel inspired me to start n and I started 1 because oo was too big and you helped me to find a lot of stuff out on your vids . Thank you
Excellent. A model railway takes a lifetime to build. I love the Morris 1000 traveller near the end.
Good argument for N gauge.
Where did you get those coaches? I am trying to make a N scale layout based on the Island of Sodor (in Thomas the Tank Engine) and those would be perfect.
+ChicagoLTrain115 have a search for "farish merseyside express" ", they are from that train set 👍🏼
Nice train 👍🚂🎥👌
What is the name of the track planning software please?
+Garry Smith its RailModeller classic, on the Mac.
You can't build that in 4 minutes !!! ?
I knew there was a trick to it - But liked and I'm subbed. You don't mess around and you make good model rail videos. Many regards.
Yes sir....and it turn out "Great"......
Bob
Thanks Bob!
And we can say... 'I was there'. What a journey, it's been great to follow and inspired me to start out in N Gauge. Brilliant!
Thanks Charlie, Hope your layout plans are going well!
Interesting to see the progression, especially since I know the end already. Very nice. Rob
Thanks Rob!
Great video Simon and a brilliant layout! You've journeyed such a long way and it's been a privilege to share all the highs and lows of seeing such a top layout and modeller develop :) - Sim
Cheers Sim, I've learned loads of the last 18 months or so putting the layout together, still much to discover/improve on though, all part of the fun.
is it true that you did it in 4 minutes if it is im impressed and you should be on the gunies world record for the fastes model train building
Really enjoyed all your videos Simon. Ive just completed my baseboard and trying to get all my items of my wish list onto the track plan. Cant wait to get to the electrics side of it ! lol
You have inspired me and this is my first model railway layout and I will be using your knowledge and tips where possible. I love the Deltic and 3 carriages...I went out and bought the same. They had been sitting on the shelf for 6 months or so so hopefully they will see some action soon.
Good work Simon and thanks
Colin Pamplin Thanks Colin, the Deltic is a great model (and a good runner too). Good luck with your layout!
Great video! I really like the music. Anyone know what it is called and who wrote it?

Awesome. I have a Kato layout, what would you recommend for scenery?
There are so many ways to do it, I built some scalescenes kits, and metcalf kits (bit easier), or you can just buy the scenecraft ready made stuff.
Have a wonderful and blessed day! God bless you!
What is the minimum radius of the curved tracks which you used?
