- BRUTAL DOOM v21 together with Containment Area by Sailor "Scout" Bengtson played on the Ultra-Violence difficulty level with 100% Secrets achieved. Containment Area made by Sailor "Scout" Bengtson is a pretty much large reimagination of the classic E2M2 Containment Area, one of the most levels so far, probably because it was shown in the Registered Doom as a demo when launched. The level is way different than a original creation, even if it resembles old map in some places, a lot of the things had been changed to store much more demons than before - basically, you have 666 monsters since the beginning. To run this map you need DOOM 2 Hell On Earth because it uses some monsters from this IWAD (Chaingunners, Mancubi, Hell Knights, Revenants and Arch-Viles), thankfully there are not any Pain Elementals and Lost Souls here spawned. But it is surely a tough map to play, not only there are 666 monsters at start, but you will encounter a lot of traps and ambushes with multiple monsters charging at you, there are 4 Cyberdemons alone that you must eliminate. Add to this multiple Arch-Viles that will spawn suddenly next to you or in areas that you just visited with took down some monsters where they go full resurrect... trust me, this level is E2M2 cranked up a lot. The map also does not have a lot of health stimpacks and medkits where you can easily replenish your health, same with ammo that is really scarce, add to this overaggressive monsters in Brutal Doom and you have a nice challenge. Thankfully with a Dox's addon where you can obtain a Cyberdemon's Rocket Launcher it becomes slightly easier because this weapon is a masterpiece that obliterates all types of monsters easily, just don't stand too close to explosion! The weapon is fully automatic while using a primary fire mode, it shoots highly damaging explosive rockets at enemies, in alternate fire mode it shoots 4 rockets in a very fast volley at cost of mandatory cooldown. This map also have one very unfair move with teleporters where you must pick one of them to proceed - when you reach a room with some Zombies inside and teleporters, avoid this one to left, it's a trap with instant death. There are a total of 8 secrets to find - most of them are behind fake walls or hidden switches, you can also obtain a BFG in a semi-secret together with an Easter Egg just at the end of Containment Area near exit.

I've never seen aggressive cacodemon AI quite like that before. Definitely an improvement. Having them bulldog the player like that makes them a much bigger threat and completely changes their dynamic.
Before they were fat balloons that shot slow fireballs at you that might occasionally move out of the way of missles. Now they're essentially flying pinkies that can move nearly as fast as the player WHILE shooting them.
The weapons look and sound so damn satisfying.
I like how the nail gun and the mini gun doom guy just rips off the front of the gun and replaces it.

Yeah, that's what an FPS should mostly aspire to be. It's weird that all this feels, sounds and looks so RIGHT, although it's mostly all 2D. They systems of gameplay are actually quite complex in BD, all the different ways the sprites can be changed/swapped, I don't even know, but it feels good. The art itself of the original game, and the feel of the engine is unique and works great, but these mod makers are simply really really good game designers.
I had no idea brutal doom existed. I now know I need this in my life.

in dox's personalized add on for brutal doom, his animators really pay attention to detail. hell! you can even see your feet being bloody if you use a fatality using your feet or by stepping a blood pool. in fact, you also kick every time, so when you're reloading you can kick, when you're flipping the fucking bird off, you can kick as well. (mechanical sanity did good work on the add on)

Original Containment Area was one of my favorite levels in Doom 1. And this one is a solid upgrade.
I will be playing Doom until i'm an extremely old man and my great grandchildren will be like "Yo Wtf grandpa why are you playing that old ass game?"
As a great grandfather it will be your duty to teach your great grandchildren to enjoy classic games.
imagine the doom movie had have been just two hours of this, it would have divided the critics and audiences like Moses did the Red Sea but it'd be an absolute classic.

Been a favourite since the early 10's, mate. :) IIRC it originally originated from another one of SgtMarkIV's blood/gib mods that he expanded on.

I don't know which I like more: Brutal Doom or Project Brutality.
I like brutal doom more because its not as extra so you can still get the doom experience without it feeling like call of duty

Brutal Doom is more hardcore in aesthetics, but Brutality is more in gameplay. However, Brutality is far far more cheesier as the trade-off.
I think Brutal Doom is best because is more performance friendly than PB and it’s gotten a whole lot of addons that you can use.

Have you read the novels by Daffyd ab Hugh? Amazing books. Really adds so much to the game. Great work there. I only had the N64 version though it would hold up alright today. With todays emulation you can see how they can maximize that era of gaming.
Damn! I'll be 36 in September and I was starting to feel like I was one of the only people to know about Flynn Taggart's and Arlene's bloody battles across the cosmos! Also night dive I believe remastered Doom 64 for the Xbox One PS4 and PC it looks quite nice and holds up very well in the gameplay department

Im gonna guess the cyberdemon missile launcher and devastator are from the mods with the same names but what about the heavy machine gun, nailgun, assault shotgun, etc? Great video by the way I was shocked when I saw it came out this year lol nice to see people are still rocking with the OG Doom games.

yep, in dox's personalized add on for brutal doom (the thing martinoz is using) dox made a little tweak in the mancubus by adding in a jump that occurs when an enemy the mancubus is attacking is in his range

Wish I could get this game to work, I downloaded everything it said on moddb but the instructions are so badly written they skip steps and explain almost nothing, anyone recommend a help vid?
Can I ask a serious question? How does this all work? I know that brutal doom is a “mod” or WAD I think?? But I see a ton of different games with different brutal doom setups including the original 2 games, but then I see this and it’s a totally different game.
Can someone explain how this works and what variations are possible like you’d explain it to a child? Because I want to get into this stuff I just don’t have a clue where to start.
First off, download GZDoom, then get either Doom, Doom 2, Plutonia Experiment, TNT Evilution or Freedoom (they're all .wad files) for the base games themselves, then download whatever maps you want (usually .wad or .pk3 files). Unless they're IWADS (which count as separate games basically), you have to load them on top of any of those games (though usually Doom 1 isn't very compatible with custom maps unless they're made for it)
As for the mod, Brutal Doom is just what it says on the tin, the on in this video is Brutal Doom + Dox's Personalized Addon (two separate mods), there's many other variations too. Some are addons (meaning you need the normal Brutal Doom to use them) and some are entirely separate BD variations that don't need the original (such as Schism or Project Brutality).
There's other unrelated mods you can combine too, like HUD mods or things like Immerse for fancy camera movement effects, among others.
There's several ways to load them but for simplicity I'd recommend downloading some mod manager.
Also always remember the load order: whatever custom level you want (if any), *then* Brutal Doom (or whatever main mod you pick), and *then* whatever other addons for it or separate mods you want.
This applies to other base games besides Doom that use the same engine (Heretic, Strife, Chex Quest, Hexen and it's expansion), though generally they have their own mods and compatibility with Doom mods isn't guaranteed.
Sounds complicated, but you'll get the hang of it pretty easily with some testing.
@@ElekiSerket Ok so, i got most of that figured out except for one thing. GZDoom makes me drag and drop all the files in at the same time, so i can't "order' them so to speak. What do you recommend to deal with this? Because i can definitely tell some of these wads and mods aren't working as advertised because they're either loading in the wrong order, or just don't work with certain other stuff (Something like Colourful Hell and Brutal Doom v.21 for example, sure seems like they don't work at the same time, but i can use some gore mods with Colourful Hell but i can't use them with Brutal Doom etc etc).

I absolutely love the way the Cyberdemon dies in this mod, and the sound he makes. Also, I like the way that one Commando continued firing after being shot down at 34:26.
One thing I would suggest to make this even more epic is to have the weapons in the game called their actual names, instead of just "shotgun," "assault rifle," etc. And I would also add more different kinds of weapons in each category, and have a Call of Duty style arsenal of different guns but only be able to carry a few at a time.

How is your weapon sway so slow and vanilla-like? Normally its much faster for brutal doom
he's using dox's personalized add on for brutal doom. dox changed the shotgun's reload speed and shooting speed as he deemed it was overpowered. you can talk to him in the brutal doom discord if you like.

In bdv21 and dox's its very sharp and fast but in this guys videos its far slower moving from side to side, much like the vanilla weapon sway movement and earlier versions of brutal doom. Im just wondering if its some hidden setting somewhere he changed or if he just modified the code himself.
