The way I see it is Josh is singing as Adam, Dan as the beast. Josh is what the beast really sounded like before he was cursed and after he was cured. Both are perfect.
Actually, Josh Groban is singing akin to how Terrance Mann portrayed the Beast on Broadway. “Evermore” was inspired by “If I Can’t Love Her” from the Broadway show.

I saw the movie in theatres, and I was lucky enough that I think they actually played this version over that part in the film
and a very lifeless one too.
@@ansleyvangorkom9491 They definitely did not play this version over the part in the film. No movie theater would alter the movie soundtrack. Movie theaters are only licensed to play the movie the way it is given to them. You may just hear the similarities because the "beast" voice that was digitally altered sounds a lot like Josh Groban's.

I really loved this version. I read many comments saying that they loved Dan's better, but they're simply different. Dan's version is more dramatic, it's angry and passionate and then it becomes hopeful and full of life. Josh's is version is slower, you can hear the sadness and longing in his voice and it's like a cry for help. I just love them both!

What people keep on forgetting is that *this* version is simply for the credits, Josh is NOT playing a character, Dan IS.

To me Dan’s is full of angst and tumultuous emotions. Josh’s is more born of an acceptance of his sadness.

The “Beauty and the Beast: A 30th Celebration” was probably the closest Disney has even come to being well-aware as to how disappointed the 2017 live-action remake turned out. Emma Watson and Dan Stevens were so poorly cast as Belle and the Beast, and the weakest links in comparison to the ensemble. A newcomer with musical theater experience should have been cast as Belle. While, everyone can agree that Josh Groban was the ideal choice for the Beast.

Josh Groban has probably one of the best if not the best tenor voice out there today. Simply a pleasure to listen to him.

What got me was realizing that when he sings this song, he's resigned himself to turning into the beast. He knows his chances of meeting anyone else is non-existant, and he knows that he'll never love anyone else. So instead he's resolved that he's going to "die," that his awareness is going to fade and he'll no longer have any human qualities.
The song isn't about just loving her, or how people affect you in various ways--it's about him knowing he's going to turn into a beast yet still vowing to himself that he'll remember her and how she made him feel what it means to be a person. That even as a true monster, her impact on him is so strong that it will keep a small part of him human.
This song is truly beautiful and heartwrenching. I know i'm not the only person who cried during this scene.

Everytime the line "And as the long long nights begin, Ill think of all that might have been" is said, I get chills and tears. Idk why but I find it powerful and moving. Really shows the sadness in the song and I find it very relatable.

It makes me sad to see almost every commenter writing paragraphs about how Dan Steven's version is better. Although I prefer Josh Groban's version, I appreciate both of them. Josh Groban has one of the most beautiful voices I've ever heard and his version was the one to move me. Despite others saying that Dan Steven has more emotion, I think both singers have just as much emotion. I just want people to appreciate Josh's version without constantly comparing it. Both versions are beautiful.

The first time I heard of Josh Groban was when I was around 14 (roughly 15 years ago) and then I didn’t know this until like maybe ten years ago but he sang the ending credits song from The Polar Express.

No matter who sings the songs, my mind goes back to the original version when my 3 year old beautiful daughter burst into tears when she realized the b&b may not realize their love. I knew I had already raised a kind hearted girl. Then, a bit later, Celine's version came on our car radio, and she burst into tears immediately again. She is the best thing in my life to represent how I tried to raise her. She's in her 30's now, a fantabulous teacher and everything the makes her mother realize her purpose on this earth! I love you Katie! I'll never forget those days as long as I live❤️

@wulfsbane21, personally, while Ariana was doing it as an "updated" version, seeing as Celine is featured in the soundtrack, I personally believe it should have been a studio duet between Celine and John. As she did the original of the title song, in my opinion, it would feel more like a blend of the "old" and "new."
I just heard this version at the end of the movie credits and I thought about how much more polished the voice sounded than the character's in the movie and then I noticed in the credits that it was Josh Groban. He has a one in a million singing voice. It sounds great through my TV sound bar/sub-woofer and surround speakers. I think Dan Stevens' version is great too, though I think his voice was modified to put the beast aspect into it.

Man Josh is a legendary singer but the most I loved is the way they edit the video. They edited those pictures in an amazing way, no lie but i actually cried through watching those photos. I love the most is the one in the begging where Emma smiling and holding a book.

The songs that Josh Groban sings and have left me a marvelous experience are "Believe" and "Remember" from the films of "The Polar Express" and "Troy", given that he has a profound and transcending voice that captivates the audience.But listening, his newest song "Evermore" in the live action of"Beauty and the beast" i was completely blown again with a passionate and melancholic inspiration that reminds us that songs are something more that letters and music. They tell a story and how that story can release our true emotions and completely be marveled with a lyrical creativity. Also, this song has a meaning of how the beast expresses that he will never escape the pain of Belle leaving to rescue his father, and that he will always be tormented by seeing her whenever he closes his eyes, and how she will inspire him, as she also causes him pain, forever. And the way he is so convinced that he is doomed to spend the rest of his miserable life just waiting for her in his tower, without her ever coming back to him and also losing hope of never becoming human again.
I can't believe neither this song nor "How does a moment last forever" get nominated for 2018 Academy Awards's Best Original Song.

I don’t know why, but I feel like the song resonates with anybody who either is going through a breakup or had lost their significant other to death. The line “I’ll think of all that might have been” especially reinforces those ideologies.
For some reason, I've always known who Josh Groban, is but I never knew just how PERFECT his voice is...
It should be a crime to sound this good.
Dan Steven's version of this song is so full of passion, and the timbre of his voice just makes it so much more driving and emotional. Josh is a great singer and he does this piece a great service, his voice is just a tad higher and that's all the separates the reception of the songs. Amazing lyrics and the music is breathtaking, this piece, as well as the other original pieces, makes The new Beauty and the Beast movie stand out above the classic 1991 version.
The storytelling of the original is unequaled by Disney. the live action has storytelling problems, pacing problems, and dramatic errors.

Couldn't agree more. Josh has a world class beautifully trained voice, and he makes the song very pretty. Dan's version is so raw. His amazing acting chops, along with his undiscovered(!) incredible singing voice...it just rips your heart out.

Dan Stevens is performing this in character as Beast. Josh Groban sings this as Josh Groban! Which is completely fine by me, b/c it would sound weird to me if he did otherwise honestly.
