I saw the animated original a while ago and was genuinely disappointed that the Beast didn’t break into song after Belle left.
@michaelcubed Actually maybe it's better this way because in the original they wanted to show he was too broken to even speak, making that moment even more emotional. In the remake, he doesn't look all that broken. I think the song kinda downplayed that moment.

In this song, he's tortured by the fact that the only person who he truly loved would never be his. His whole being had been torn apart. No other prince has these types of emotions. They don't deserve a song this terribly beautiful.

I'm just saying, Eugene died for his princess and Naveen didn't care about anything else but Tiana's happiness even if that meant marring him wasn't in the picture, Aladdin did everything he could to make sure Jasmine felt the freedom she wanted, and Kristoff knew that one kiss from him would thaw her heart but he thought he knew that Anna wanted someone else. The beast is not the only prince to experience pain and yes, I think they all do deserve a song like this.

Reminds me of moblit and hange, Hange didn’t flinch when the rock hit her eye, she kept her eyes locked on moblit as he faded from view. Or from Moblits pov, he kept his job as an assistant and sacrificed himself for her. She was loyal to him, he knows she’ll never forget/ leave him. People are pretty back and fourth with the live action remakes, but this, this song was the best addition to this movie. It puts his character development into perspective. It gives us the glimps into his mind, heart and soul that the origional movie didnt give us. I never knew I needed this song to be apart of the movie till the remake. Best decision ever Disney

He learned this song and i wake up most nights with really bad nightmares and he has started to sing this to me at night when i cant sleep. This was my favorite song from the movie. The bass in Dan Stevens voice really brings the mood of the song vs Josh Groban's version. which sounds a bit more upbeat and faster tempo. loved this!
Since Josh Groban's version was for the credits, I guess it makes sense for it to be happier. It's nice to have a highly trained singer with a beautiful voice to sing during the credits. But as far as giving chills down the spine during the movie, Dan Stevens wins by a long shot.

Everyone gets upset at the autotune and general changes to the formulas, but Beauty and the Beast was the remake I thought that improved upon the original by giving the characters more backstory and emotion. This track’s stuck with me ever since I first watched it, just a beautiful love song showing how the Beast has found hope in Belle even with his current state. Really tugs on those heartstrings when you’ve been alone for so long and finally found that someone who makes you feel better. So beautiful💖

Just listening to the lyrics, I don't think this can just be about the loss of Eros (romantic love). It could be about Agape (family, think sister, mother, maybe aunt even) or Philios (love between friends) as well. It doesn't just have to be about a lost lover. I know that's the message intended but it be put through different lenses and still make sense. (Example, I typically use the song to create a story with one of my immortal characters longing over the death of one of his closest friends and being upset he can't join her. None of his species can fall in love, not even, him so it wouldn't make sense to use with that perspective.)

Easily the best Disney animated to live action remake. Not only did it add songs like this and add scenes that helped add to the complexity of the characters and helped better understand the characters and how they felt, but also it was just supremely acted out and it helped remind me back when I saw it in the theater that the original is and always will be my second favorite Disney film.
Beauty and the Beast always been my #1 fav disney film. They did the live action so well.. this part especially, sends chills every time. It really expanded on Beast's character. Amazing.

I felt good, too. All I had to do to make everyone delighted and happy was play the role that I had been given. That’s what I believed. And that’s why I kept playing the part of Ymir.
People had started to call me devil before I knew it; but I still kept playing the part of Ymir.
The man who had given me a name claimed that I had “tricked him.”
Still, I kept playing the part of Ymir.
I thought if that’s what would save them, it would be fine. But…
There are some people in this world who have rocks thrown at them for nothing more than existing. As their symbol, I was stoned from head to toe.
It seems that in this world, it doesn’t mean anything in particular that a simple chunk of flesh can scream and flail.

That’s why I think the world is so incredible.
I opened my eyes again, and spread before me was freedom.
From there, I began to walk and I lived the way I wanted. I have no regrets.

Why do I like the word melancholy so much? I don't know I really like the part he sings it for some reason.
I know me too. When he said "I let her steal to my melancholy heart", I felt my heart right there. It just burst.

Me,too (even when not singing., I‘m currently binge-listening the audiobooks he‘s narrating).
Best vocal performance in the whole movie along with Luke Evans (he was even better than the singer for the animated Gaston, especially in the mob song).
This song ALWAYS makes me break down sobbing uncontrollably and there’s a reason behind it. This was the film me and my grandma last saw together when I went to visit her for Thanksgiving week 2017 just before she died 2.5 months later due to multiple organ failure brought on by an extremely rare autoimmune disease. The Beast’s words describe EXACTLY how I felt because me and Grammy were extremely close and I felt like my heart had been ripped out, not to mention that 9 days after she died, salt was added into the wound when one of my all time favorite Star Wars characters was killed off in one of the animated series (OUCH!!!) So this makes it all that much harder to watch the film which is a real drag cause Beauty and the Beast has been among my all time favorite films AND love stories (and still is) for as far back as remember (the original film was released into theaters one month before I was born!)
