Nice question about the Tattoos! So Jinx's way back when she was officially released in the game she has those tattoos, in her 3D model and her official Splash art but... here in arcane there is a whole new layer of meaning behind them and you will get the meaning of it in the next episode.
For Vi it's also a cool one, there is a Hoodie that Riot games gave as a present to Fortiche animators with a complete version of her back tattoo, just missing some smoke on the top that whe can se when she is in prison, it features 2 keys each one with a letter, an M for Mylo and a C for Claggor, and the rest of the Tattoo is dedicated to Powder, Gears and machinery it's a whole homage to the respect and admiration Vi has for Powder's creativity and inventions, it also represents Vi's Backbone keeping her upright through all these years in prison just thinking about her sister, it's what keeps her going it's beautiful.

So the thing about Jinx's relationship to Silco...
You kind of have to view her as that little kid who hasnt really emotionally grown since the day she lost everyone. She is still a little girl who just wants her dad to love her.
Also, she clearly has a pretty bad case of Impostor Syndrome. So she NEEDS constant validation, and whenever Silco withholds it, she is going to lash out.
Some people view their relationship as pseudosexual, but i think they both understand that she is just a little kid who wants a hug from her dad.
They couldve framed it a bit better to make it less creepy though.

The writers have stated they wanted their interactions to be weird and off-putting, actually. It's a habit of this show to never get you into a comfort zone with anything that's happening, like just when Vi gets her kick ass fight with Sevika and wins, she gets caught off guard and knifed in the gut. And the scene with Marcus/Silco and the grenade fakeout. Also the Jayce/Mel romance scene interspersed with Victor struggling with figuring out the hexcore, collapsing and weird shit taking place. Always a little bit of satisfaction with concern mixed in.

    • @juho1891
      @juho1891 2 роки тому +10

@@gman7497 Yeah, I haven't kept tabs on what the writers have said, but it annoys me how people in the comments are anxious to explain that it's just a father-daughter-relationship, and even start to analyze why. That's a spoiler! This is just my opinion, of course, but I feel like it's something that shouldn't be discussed in the comments without spoiler warnings, until the last episode drops.
But since we've already gotten into this SPOILER, I'll add that just from watching the show, it's easy to see that the relationship is supposed to seem a bit creepy at this point, like you're unsure of where it's going. The show is telling a story, and that means not all info is revealed at once. What at first may seem villainous is revealed to be a lot more sympathetic, and things that seem heroic at first are revealed to be problematic. That's good, complex storytelling, and it's a shame to see that spoiled.
TL;DR: It's a structural decision on the part of the writers to reveal these story beats when they do, and people rushing in to explain what hasn't been explained yet is a bummer for me as someone who enjoys fresh reactions. I hope Spartan and Pudgey have already recorded all their reactions so they won't get spoiled by the comments.

The funeral was for the bombing by Jinx. I think Marcus is essentially roped in ever since his first "blood money" situation in episode 3. With Grayson killed, he got the glory for arresting Vi and getting a culprit for the council on the explosion in episode 1; the result was a road to Sheriff with likely help of Silco manipulating the truth of situations over the years. He visits Grayson's grave knowing full well his actions led to her death, immediately after hosting a funeral for Officers killed by Jinx, and consulting Silco soon after. He knows that he is nothing compared to Grayson, he looks up to her and knows he is stuck with the cycle of violence he in part created.

Jinx’s tattoos could be a reference to that fateful day of the explosion. In her eyes, it was the moment when her first gadget worked and which made that brilliant blue explosion. It's actually opposite, Vander was the radical extremist, if you look in episode 3, the epilogue with Vander drowning Silco, he's younger without a beard. It's believed that Silco was the calm diplomatic type who tried to negotiate peace with Piltover and establish the nation of Zaun, but Vander was hot-headed and demanded immediate action, that's why he betrayed Silco and tried to kill him and lead the revolution himself, he failed and created Silco's "villain" character, which later on resulted in the war breaking out and Silco going into hiding, since you only see Vander himself on the bridge with a beard later on in the future in episode 1, he also told how he regret doing all the things in the past and when he found Vi and Powder on the bridge and their parents dead, he changed inside, he became a pacifist and took in the girls to redeem himself for his consequences and that's how he became the "hero" character. Everything about this series has a Yin and Yang esque vibe about it, it's a balance of two opposites and duality of the two opposites as a indivisible whole.

Arcane has done amazingly well with their pacing of the show…as you said, you need the build up to get the emotional impact. When it was originally released they released it in 3 acts. So episodes 1-3 were released the first week, episodes 4-6 were released the next week and episodes 7-9 the final week. Also a fun little tidbit that took me a while to realize, the scene with Jayce and Mel sleeping together, interwoven with the scene where Victor's blood enters the hexcore means something really important. In Mel and Jayce's scene, their act is one that creates life. In Victor's scene, we see his blood enter into the hexcore and attach itself to the magic in a spiraling helix pattern reminiscent of a certain double-helix molecule . . .
. . . because Victor is also creating life.

Vander's past isn't particularly mysterious. You can piece together what roughly happened. Vander was a leader in the Undercity and tried to lead a rebellion against Piltover. There were heavy casualties as seen by the scene on the bridge, which includes the deaths of Vi's and Powder/Jinx's parents.
Vander realizes that the cost of being free from Piltover was too great (reflected by the talk with him and Vi on the bridge asking her who she's willing to lose), which results in him making a deal with Grayson. The enforcers won't come to the Undercity unless things spill over to Piltover. Silco didn't agree to the deal because he wanted the Undercity to be completely independent. Vander couldn't control Silco, and so Vander tries to kill him for the sake of keeping their deal in place.

i actually think they were leading the rebellion together. silco’s lines of “we shared a vision vander!! a dream of freedom!” and vander’s “what i did to you that day… i’ve never forgiven myself. you were my brother.” i think they were partners (like jayce and viktor) and the rift came when they couldn’t agree on the methods that should be taken to achieve what they wanted.

Vander tried to kill Silco way before fighting on the bridge. They look much younger in flashbacks, probably in their 20s, and Silco said he kept respect for Vander even after attempted murder until Vander made peace with enforcers.
We don't know why exactly Vander wanted to kill Silco. Most important point here that Vander was violent hot-tempered man, but he started suppress his bad side after he took care for Vi and Powder. Silco reffered to it in his line: "I knew you still had it in you".

hello guys, it is interesting the background of what was the situation of Vander and Silco in their youth before the battle of the prologue of episode 1. but the lawsuit that left wounds in both of them in the river occurred much earlier, as I understand it, since Vander has longer hair and his beard is different and the wound on his arm was recent, when Vi and Pouder see him, his appearance is more similar to the current one and his wound on his arm seemed already closed. Silco and Vander apparently created the Zaun independence movement and fought for leadership with each other and the bridge massacre was led by Vander himself. On the other hand, Jayce is undoubtedly following Mel's game but it's not as if she was using it but rather preparing it for her, it's as if she needed the presence of another gear in her pyramid since she is one of the wealthiest people from Piltover. As for the lack of male characters, believe me they will not be disappointed, let's make a list of the gentlemen: Jayce, Victor, Marcus, Silco, Dr Singeed, Heirmenbingger. and the ladies: Jinx, Vi, Caytlin, Mel, Savika. the show has 5 episodes and always involves someone entering or leaving.
The relationships between the characters make the diference on the time, make shure in negative or positive ways they are not forced.

It is personal preference as well, I dont connect to the main cast as much, especially being predominantly female. Marvel since endgame and onwards hasnt been great with its story telling overall, and even throughout i didnt necessarily think everytjing was amazing. For me, in recent times, The Witcher sereis has had brilliant story telling and Attack on Titan anime.

I'm personally not that surprised. Episode 3 is mind-blowing, and is what's hook you in the series, but most people will only consider Arcane as a masterpiece once they finish it. I think anyone will agree that Arcane is better on rewatch. There are so many layers and hidden details that you only notice and appreciate once you have the whole picture.
Personally, I binged the show, and once I finished it I was like "wow that was great". One week later "Wait a second that was awesome". And now, 4 months later, having rewatched it an unhealthy amount of times and still obsessing over it, I'm like "Holy cow, that's a fucking masterpiece" xD
Give it time. If they like AoT, there's a big chance they'll love Arcane ;)

Even before and during End Game era I feel like Marvel was playing it safe the whole time. Same formula every film with the only exception being Infinity War. Maybe you like action scenes dominant films? Idk but Marvel standard of storywriting could be compared to every cheesy blockbusters out there with no art merit. It's like Grammy award where overhyped artists are being nomimated just because they are famous and people are watching it for stupid dramas. That's how I feel Marvel as a whole as a person who watched every Marvel films and TV shows they ever produced.
Imo Daredevil was something trully special (as Arcane intro was also inspired by it, if you haven't watched it, it's a great show!) while other Marvel shows are basically character cameo shitfest with no context subtances or whatsoever. You might want to check out Bojack Horseman, Breaking Bad, Sopranos, Mad Men, Mr Robot if you really want good storywriting shows. Marvel is a really bad example for "good" writing and I doubt it will never be if they just keep playing safe as long as people like you are satisfied with their script standard.

I feel this way too about marvel. There are definitely some epic stand alone movies, especially the ones that were made a handful of years ago.... however, like you said... they have started to hold back from the depths and have become very comical and light hearted. Spartan and I don't typically like this. We want to feel something, connect with the emotion, instead of a joke fest - otherwise we would have watched a comedy.
Spartan has watched Daredevil and loooooved it. I am yet to watch it, but it is on my bucket list.
We are definitely enjoying arcane and I'm personally loving the minor details it brings. However, storytelling is only as good as the characters you can connect to. I've connected to some, however Spartan, like he mentioned in the end discussion, didn't feel connected to any characters besides vander, and he passed.
So, again... just to be clear... because I think most people keep missing this point.... we definitely feel emotion and depth in Arcane and we are of course enjoying the series... we wouldn't call it bad or anything. It's definitely a good series.

    - Sevika isn't part-human, she's just a "regular" person... with a robot arm. :)
    - I'm not sure that Vander, although a good man, didn't play an active part in the starting of the war. In any case, nothing suggests that he was just a passive participant.
    - The Romance scene, a "Disney feel"? Really? I can't see it. To me, it looks more like a James Bond opening credits.
    - Jinder has spent years believing that her big sister left and betrayed her, she has no reason to think otherwise.
    - Finally, 7:17 : I too thought that they would fill the gaps at one point... they never did. This is the only BUT substantial issue I have with this monumental series so far.

Thats an oversimplification. Vandors mannerisms, the emotion behind his face, the way he talks, the way he carry's himself, the burdens he shoulders, he's an Alpha male and I connect to it. Compare even to the same gender..Jayce, Silco, Viktor
..all great characters but i dont see the world through their eyes. They dont get my juices flowing...Vandor hits the spot for me. thats the archetype that I connect with the most
Characteristics are assigned to gender. Women by nature are more agreeable, more nurturing and empathetic. their toughness still encompasses these. Masculine is more defiant, emotionally repressed, competitive and ambitious etc.

And spent the rest of his life trying to sort out his mess and tell people that he was wrong.
Although if you wanted to talk about “Alpha Males”, Silco is protective, ambitious, astute, witty, restrained, reserved and hardened. He is the epitome of an alpha male. Not Vander, who was pacifistic, collected, empathetic, soft-spoken, nurturing…positively maternal.
Speaking of, It is not our biology that allows you to perceive women as maternal or empathetic or nurturing. It is the duties that we have been forced to perform over centuries.
But I’m not going to convince you over a UA-cam comment, so I’ll leave it here.

It is very inconspicuous. That's what I liked with the series. But, agree, character development/interaction is core, no plot twists per se. Its basically about Silco being a freedom fighter/terrorist trying to gain independence from Piltover by creating the nation of Zaun (unite the undercity). I've never understood that, no matter what the creators said. People who feel uncomfortable see a sexual undertone (without it, the unhealthiness wouldn't make them uncomfortable), but Silco doesn't seem interested one bit in Jinder as a sexual partner, which is good because he's already twisted enough (the show isn't super interested in romantic pairings anyway, for some reason), and I don't see Jinder fantasizing on him AT ALL, she just needs a daddy and has boundary issues.
