Definitely taking notes on these wonderful wines to look out for at great price points. Another one I have been able to find around $50 that I really like is Chateau Lassëgue. The ‘16 is great. Thanks again John!!
Enjoying your videos as always! My fav Bordeaux under $40 is Chateau Laroque from St. Emilion. Look for the 2019 vintage, it is supposed to be a killer wine.
Thanks for the amazing video, John! I really love this series. I always find your videos to be educational and informative! Enjoyed hearing your 10 of favorites Bordeaux wines from The Left Bank and The Right Bank. I can spend a $50 on a fantastic bottle. 😍🍷 Great insights and recommendations. Appreciate the content and an outstanding presentation! Cheers John!
Excellent recommendations for Bordeaux wines! I do recognize Chateau Bellefont-Belcier, and have enjoyed it. I appreciate the diversity of the wines you recommend. Thank you for this video, John. Cheers.
New to your channel, this is a great list. I've had the 2016 Phelan Segur and couldn't believe the price point. Great choice. It would be great to see the full list of wines you mention in the description area for future videos. Makes it easier to see at a glance all the wines you mention. Keep up the work, quite informative.
Love the channel. Love the knowledge and delivery. It would have been helpful to have an image of the bottle being discussed being shown in the corner the whole time you spoke about it
An excellent video and so very helpful, interesting, and informative. I’ve tried several amazing reds in Bordeaux at around this price range and I would definitely love to get hold of your recommendations because I’m sure they’re fantastic. Thank you so much for sharing! Santé!
Great video, and as always a big thank you John! Tough to sort through the many choices in Bordeaux, but you certainly make is much easier😀. Familiar with and have had a few of these, and some great new suggestions. All the best my friend 🍷😎
Great Video and we thank you for your efforts, hard work, and time to bring us great informative content. I was wondering if you have drank any of Chateau Le Puy wines and if so your thoughts. Looking forward for more videos.
@@AttorneySomm I had the opportunity to present the Kwok family wines (Tour St. Christophe, Bellefont Belcier, and, at the time Haut Brisson) at a wine tasting class at Harvard with the son and Harvard grad Howard Kwok. We visited the properties last October, the dedication to perfection is a great harbinger for these wines, they are leaving no stones unturned, and you are spot on about their terroir. I had a 2016 Phelan Segur the other night, it was quite stunning, am going to buy a half dozen bottles of the 2019 vintage at $49 per bottle. For me my deals of the year have been 2019 Cantemerle (still available at $28), and the even more outstanding 2020 Cantemerle ($35).
@@jimhowaniec Thanks very much! Sounds like you had a terrific visit! They are definitely doing an excellent job. They sent me a vertical of wines to try with some wines that pre-dated their ownership and some that post-dated it and there is a huge difference in quality for sure. These wines are such compelling values! Thanks very much for weighing in re: Phelan Segur and Cantemerle as well! Definitely excellent values as well. Cheers!
A very nice list there good sir. However, wine #2 is not part of the Saint-Emilion Premier Grands Cru Classé nor regular Grands cru Classé although you mention it around the 1:10 mark. 'Saint-Emilion Grand Cru' without the 'classe' is a gimmick to promote the wines.
@@AttorneySomm summer is kinda difficult. People know we have best wines so when they come to our lake house we can't pour them cheap wines... all these wines will defend my cellar without ruining my reputation!
Since this video, sadly many of these wines mentioned have increased in price 30% or more. 2018 Chateau Cantenac Brown $85. 2018 Chateau Gloria $55. The 2015 Gloria $70.
You might try checking for 2020 futures. Some of the prices I found were for futures of the wines. And now the wait time to delivery should be shorter. I also just did another $50 top wine video a few weeks ago with 16 picks, including a Bordeaux that was still at that price. It's crazy though. Wine prices are really heading higher, just like eggs!
@@AttorneySomm True! Many of the 4th, 5th Gran Cru Classe offerings that are nearing $80+ were my weekly drinkers back in the day for $20, $25! Wines such as Gloria, Talbot, Cantenac Brown, d’Armailhac. Today wine is definitely an expensive hobby. Thankfully app savings exist if one is a consistent buyer. Great content btw.
We'll be in Bordeaux in 2 weeks and plan to shop at l'Intendant. We'd love to buy a few bottles to keep for 5-20 years before opening or as possible investments. Would you have any recommendations?I'd like to keep it under $150 per bottle if possible.
You should be able to get better pricing there than in the US, so I'm going to suggest a few names that may cost more here. But I would focus on 2016 and 2018 and look for names like Cos d'Estournel (18 may be close to 150 there), Leoville Poyferre, Leoville Las Cases and Leoville Barton. Pape Clement should be well within that range. Pontet Canet is an excellent choice too. On the right bank you might consider Pavie-Macquin which is always a great value or La Chapelle d'Ausone or Pensees de Lafleur if they have them in budget. They are harder to get here and both special wines. Hope you enjoy the trip!
