BRO! Because of you I drank a 2021 Beaumont and a 2018 Chateau d’Arcins this weekend and they were both fantastic. I haven’t been into Bordeaux in a while but now I’m BACK. Thanks again.
Glad you picked Beaumont. I am currently drinking the '14s, which are terrific value. My wine merchant's (The Wine Society) Exhibition range includes a claret made by Beaumont, which is also excellent value. I like the blind tasting formula. Years ago I used to run monthly tastings and they were always blind. It helped to concentrate on the wine rather than the label and we had some fun voting on favourites and guessing prices etc. We once had a Lafite (albeit from a lesser vintage) in the line-up and it finished near the bottom, including from me and I knew what it was! Vintage is important, as you say.
Glad to see Beaumont still performing. They always did well in the restaurant. Machine harvested, if I remember correctly, which really helps to keep costs down. It’s good to see those savings passed on to the consumer.
@@drmatthewhorkey I do yes, and used to have a lot more say in the wine at my last place. You know, I never really considered it, but when I saw that Beaumont was machine harvested I suppose it was just a confirmation bias thing, because I was always very impressed with the quality to price proposition. We were able to put it on at £50-60. I think 2016 was the last I tried and all 2016 was pretty good. Subscribed, mate. It’s great to see more approachable, yet well-researched and otherwise serious wine content on UA-cam. Good luck.
I buy Beaumont and Peyrabon regularly, I also enjoy Chateau Cissac too! Great video, really informative and some wines to look out for! Thanks Matthew. Some great value Bordeaux from the Wine Society in the UK.
I'll definitely try these. I'm quite new to drinking wine seriously (about a year in) and I drank in total about 20 bottles of bordeaux, so take my suggestion with a pinch of salt, but I think my favorite was Chateau Moulin Du Cadet, Saint Emilion Grand Cru 100% Merlot 2018 (I paid about 30€). In general, Bordeaux is my go-to region for quality-price wine and I tend to gravitate around the 15-20€ range.
That Saint Emillion is actually the best wine in the Cadet range IMO so good job. There can be great value in Bordeaux if you find a good shop to recommend you good bottles. Enjoy the wine journey.
Chateau Mancedre. This wine absolutely made me fall in love with Bordeaux as a region. Rich earthy and leather notes on the nose and it exploded on the palate with rich fruit flavors and very balanced acidity.
Just discovered your channel. Great presentation. Lillian Ladouys along with Ch Capbern and Charmail have been my gotos. Will definitely check out your other bottles for consumption. Thanks.
Thanks for the compliment! Good suggestions and let me know how it goes. I have a video of actually being on site at Lillian Ladouys here: ua-cam.com/video/Rcujz-To5g0/v-deo.html
The first time I found and had Chateau Beaumont I paid only $14. Came back the next day to buy a case and everything was gone. So for everybody out there, when you see Chateau Beamont on the shelf just buy as much as you can because they are always a great buy! Another great QPR I enjoy is Cht. Lanessan. Love your videos, cheers!
Try Chateau La Tonnele from Haut-Medoc. It's 20$ and over delivers for the price in my opinion. All recent vintages I have tried have been amazing for the price!
I really like Château de La Rivière, Fronsac - terrific wine with really good aging potential, and impressive price to value. The 2016 one is looking to be a great one. Very nice selection of bordeaux in this video, will check them out - subbed.
Many thanks! The 2016 and 2018 vintages are stellar indeed. There are some previous videos on Bordeaux and an upcoming blind tasting on Classified Growths vs California Cabs!
I recently had a $18 Château Mayne Mazerolles Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux 2020 that blew me and others away. Tasted better than many $45+ wines. I wish I could find it again online or southern CA
Capbern St Estephe 2018&19-$30/$24, 2nd wine of Calon Segur 18/19-$33/$30. Right Bank d'Aiguilhe, Fronsac: Dalem, Fontenil, La Vieille Cure all three Rock.
I think Chateau Poujeaux, Branas Grande Poujeaux, Le Boscq but also something like Cambon la Pelouse in great vintages for exemple, L'esprit de Chevalier too, they performe all very well at it's price category
You have to try "Ronan by Clinet". It is made by the people from Chateau Clinet (Pomerol). This wine is 100% merlot, made in a modern Pomerol style. For 16 Euro you can't go wrong here. 90+ points imho. PnP or age it a few years, both outstanding. the 2016 is a fenomenal vintage for this one, but I am already looking out for the 2018. (note: points don't matter, only your taste does!) Cheers! Rick.
I think the Right bank are the great values recently. Not sure of the prices now but on Futures, La Prade($15), Puygueraud($20), Fontenil($25) Left Bank--Lanessan($25), Haut Bergey(Pessac, $25-30)

So many hit and misses with Cru Bourgeois that I don't bother with them. I find second wines from Classified Growths or even Crus Classes de Graves offer high enough QPR. I didn't know Beychevelle made a third wine. I will look for this and see if my palate matches yours.

Yes you can get great Bordeaux for under $30. Here’s a few, 2018 Château Lilian Ladouys, 2018 Château La Rose Perriere, 2018 Château Laborde, and 2016 Château Plincette.
@@drmatthewhorkey Thanks. I became excited to post and didn’t wait to see you had already reviewed the Lilian Ladouys hahaha. That one is my go to and I have a few cases of the 2018, 2019, and 2020. If you ever get a chance try the 2019. It’s the shining star of the bunch. Also, I’ve noticed these wines need at least an hour in the decanter before they hit the glass. A lot of that capsicum peppery notes fade and more black fruit, vanilla, cassis shows up. Cheers 🍷
