@@sanjaypatelmd4669 Ha! Have not tried that one before. 😂
@@AttorneySomm I am always worried about aspiration ! ... sorry Doctor in me can't stop thinking and worrying!
@@sanjaypatelmd4669 Totally understand! I’m that way with legal issues.
@@AttorneySomm That's what makes us provide value to our clients or patients.
love how varied Jeb's list was. shows his palate. Keep up the great work
Thank you! Completely agree with you. He covers most of my favorite regions and does an outstanding job!
Thank you for doing the research and posting. I’m excited to try the Champagnes🍾🥂
My pleasure, Natasha! Hope that you enjoy the Champagnes as much as I do! Thank you.
Just poured the 2018 Lingua Franca AVNI Chard at one of my events and guests went nuts for it.
Excellent! Very glad to hear that. A very exciting producer. Thanks for letting me know!
There are so many things I appreciate about this video, I’m not sure where to begin. First, I’m so glad you made this review of JD’s Top 100 list. I think his list is more to my liking than Wine Spectator’s. Second, your selection has excellent variety, ranging from Champagne to one of my favorites, Gigondas. I’m so pleased you included two Gigondas here as well as other outstanding wines from the Rhône. I have a 2015 Chateau Saint-Cosme but I would love to find the 2019 vintage and Domaine Saint-Damien as well. As for the 2019 Malartic from Pessac, the price here isn’t $45-50. It’s laughably preposterous - around $155! But I’ll try to find the other wines you mentioned in this video. Really stellar content, and your backdrop looks very nice and calming. Thank you for making this outstanding video - truly one of your best. Greatly appreciate your candid review, valuable insights, and excellent recommendations. Santé, John!
Merci beaucoup, Margaux! While there are some regions not on this list that I enjoy, I definitely enjoy all the regions that Jeb Dunnuck covers. For that reason, I really appreciated his selections. Glad that you did as well! Gigondas is definitely a very underrated region! Sorry to hear about the Malartic pricing. Perhaps you can get some when you travel and bring it back home with you? Appreciate the thoughtful feedback!
@@AttorneySomm You’re welcome, John! Thank you for the additional insights. I’ll have to read JD’s Top 100 list tomorrow and see what regions he missed. Thank you for the suggestion re. Malartic - you read my mind!😁 I’ll have to hunt it down somewhere. Are you going to come up with a second video about JD’s list or will you review next the Top 100 of JS? I wonder which is better! Who has Austrian wines on their list?
@@margauxml Thanks! I’ll give it some thought and let you know.
Great video! There seems to be a lot more Bordeauxs(which is my favorite region) in Jeb's list compared to other lists out there, so maybe I should subscribe to him to get more value out of it.
Thank you! Yes, Jeb does a great job with Bordeaux.
Hahahaha nice, I have the same coming out within the next week (already shot and edited). I figured this list was more up your alley.
We think alike again! Yes! Pretty much everything on Jeb's list is in my wheelhouse. It was as if I prepared it!
I will enjoy both videos ... I had fun watching John's video
@@sanjaypatelmd4669 Thank you! I will definitely watch his video as well.
@@AttorneySomm I can see pressure building on Dr Horkey! 😂
@@sanjaypatelmd4669 Ha! 😂
Tyvm for the compilation! Will definately check out Domaine Saint Damien Gigondas La Louisiane, the 2020 is available here at the moment for $36. It went straight into the bucket list for January!
Thank you! Such an excellent producer. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
Thank you for introducing this list to me. By chance the top 1 (Bollinger La Grande Annee 2014) was on offer for 115 Euro (~ $120) in a shop nearby. I bought a few bottles to put away for a few years and one to drink this weekend.
Excellent! That’s a terrific price. I’m a big fan of the Grande Annee as well. Just haven’t tried the 14 yet. 👍🍾
Huge fan of Jeb Dunnuck
He does an excellent job! 👍🍷
This list is really cool ! Some of my bucket list wines . Cayuse and Leoville Barton ! It’s a shame that some of the bargains , like Malartic, are available here in Brazil at prices that are unexplicable like 300 us ! Cheers and great content again !
Thanks very much! Sorry to hear about that pricing. Hopefully you will be able to locate some better-priced bottles if you travel. Cheers!
I found this one the best top100 list of 2022. With many Bordeaux which I like as 2019 was a vintage of excellent value for money.. and I already have number 57 (Smith Haut Lafitte) and number 7 (Leoville Barton) in my collection by the way 😊
Thank you! Agreed! My palate aligns pretty well with the areas that Jeb reviews. Sounds like you are doing well! Cheers!
Certainly a very French-heavy list with lots of Bordeaux, Rhone and Champagne. One thing I’ve found somewhat lacking is Italian wine coverage across the board (WS, JS, JD) and I wonder why this is the case. As a huge Brunello fan some of the best wines I’ve had this year are Sangiovese-based, so it feels like a shame that not many make the list :\\
Yes, I agree that Jeb’s list is light on Italy. I think that Jeb does not review much Italian wine. JS does so I’m not sure why he didn’t include more. Piedmont was certainly very light in WS. I totally agree with you and feature Italy prominently in many of my videos. Thanks for weighing in. 👍🍷
Another informative video, John! I learn so much about wines from different regions of the world. I am particularly curious about the Chardonnay from Willamette Valley and the Syrah from Santa Barbara.
Love the Champagnes as well. What caught my attention the most is the 2019 Lynch Bage for $160.00 which received 100 points from JD. I probably can hold onto this for about five years😁. Thank you once again for this elaborate wine list, and enriching my wine knowledge. Cheers!
Thanks very much Gina! Very much appreciate the thoughtful comment. Glad that you enjoyed the video. Jeb did a terrific job with this list. Hope you enjoy these wines as much as I do. Cheers!
Oregon Chardonnay(in GENERAL) is not as flamboyant as Calif. and closer to White Burgundy. Same with Sta Barb Syrah, closer to N. Rhone or Washington than Napa/Sonoma.
I wouldn't touch the Lynch Bages for 10 years. 12-17 years from the vintage date(2031-36) seems to be the Wheelhouse for LB. And I like my Bordeaux younger than other people.
@@ronmcmartin4513 Thanks very much for weighing in. Agree with your thoughts re: OR Chardonnay and SB Syrah. I spend a lot of time in both regions. Yes, the 19 LB will certainly be a very long-lived vintage.
@@AttorneySomm--Douhin(Rose Rock) is another Burg producer in Eola-Amity, but their main home is close by in Dundee Hills.
"Comte Lafon" got my attention, but $60 from a critic that rates a bit high for me, seems expensive(so hey, I'll stick to the Cheaper Lafon, & Laflaive Burgs😳).
@@ronmcmartin4513 Yes, I tasted the Rose Rock wines at Drouhin's Dundee winery a couple years ago. Impressive. I mentioned one of their wines in the WS video a couple weeks ago. Yes, that pricing seems backwards for sure. 🤔
Nice I enjoyed that and I have a few of them. I should of Jump on the Malartic Lagraviere at $42 a bottle earlier this year
Thank you! $42 is a great price! Hopefully it has not gone up too much.
@@AttorneySomm I see it still for $42.98
@@robertfenti3996 Excellent!
Very interessting list. Many great wines there i have tasted. Roger Sabon prestige i have in several vintages. Awesome wine and still reasobly priced compared to several other top cuvees in chateaneuf du pape. I realy like Saint Cosme. I bought a lot of hominis fides gigondas 2007 which receiveed 100 points by Parker and some later on. Great wine a a really good buy. Also i was very pleased to see Malartic Lagravierre 2019 on the list with a 96 point score. I bought than wine en primeur at only 36$ pr bottle. I only just got it and tasted it 3 days ago along with Branaire Ducru. I agree. My score is 96 too. I really apreiciate your recomdations here. Several bottles i havent tried that you recommend. I will see if i can find them here.
Thanks very much for watching and sharing your thoughts. That is a terrific price on the Malartic Lagraviere! Very well done! Hope that you can track down a few of the others you have not tried yet and that you enjoy them as much as i do!
Don't know Dunnuck but there is some good stuff here. I am not, as I have said before, a fan of league tables.
Glad you featured Guigal: at the other end of the stable mentioned in your video, I am enjoying Guigal's CduR '16 this evening - my last bottle, alas.
Still in Dubai I surmise: playing any golf?
Deloitte in the background - did you get any product placement fees? 😄
Thanks for watching and weighing in! Hopefully you can restock on the Guigal CdR, albeit a newer vintage. I've actually been back in Dallas since Monday. I was playing catchup on my legal work so recorded this one in my downtown Dallas office. Ha! No placement fees yet. It was not as noticeable when I recorded. 🤣
Have you considered doing a video focused on Australian wines?
Thanks very much for the suggestion. I definitely recommend Australian wines as I come across some that I enjoy. I recently featured Leeuwin, for example. I’ll definitely give it some thought and add it to my list of potential video topics for further investigation. Cheers!
Great video. I slept on a Lynch-Bages yesterday 😑
Thanks very much!
@canuck--Sounds painful. Signed, The Princess & the Pea.
It's all good. I picked up a Heredia Tondonia and a le Petit Smith Haut Lafitte today
@@thecanuck11--The 2009 Le Petite was the best rendition of a 1st wine that I can remember. I don't consider paying $300 for a "94 Point" 2nd wine, as a great value.
I m the first viewer. Good morning!
Excellent! Good morning! Hope you enjoy it.
He seem to match my preferences with wine. I enjoy Rhône wines like him. For the love of Pete, include some more affordable wines in list.
Yes, my palate is aligned with Jeb Dunnuck's as well. Jeb's list did not have much below the $35-$45 wines that I discussed. But the past few weeks my videos discuss at least a couple wines below $20 and I even have a recent dedicated video with 10 wines at $15. or less. That $15 video is here if you have not seen it yet. ua-cam.com/video/NOdPpbGCIQw/v-deo.html
Not a single german Riesling or Pinot Noir. So sad. Especially when it comes to QPR...
Yes my guess is that Jeb Dunnuck does not review wines from Germany. These critics typically have areas of focus and are not able to review all regions (unlike the magazines that deploy multiple critics so they can cover the world).
Let's face it, a Top 100 is kind of stupid and book seller material. Even Top 50 is pushing it. However, as I'm not actually paid to drink wine (a tough job but someone has to do it) so they can provide useful information about wine I've never heard of. A lot depends on the reviewer and our relationship with them. This is where you come in John. I'm living the incomplete but selected list through you. Thanks.
My first introduction to wine was France and I'm a fan but this list was seriously French heavy. ( I promise to not go on about Spain.) Where's the rest of the world? Why is good French wine so expensive? Does France define our concept of quality wine and If so, why is that the case in 2022? I think the wine world remains highly old fashioned, almost monolithic in a lot of its attitudes. (I'm not talking about you by the way.) Seriously John, I think an explanation might make a good topic. WT
Thanks very much for weighing in. Bodegas Muga was on Jeb's list, but the list was definitely light on Spain. I don't think that Jeb Dunnuck reviews wine from the entire world. Most critics focus on certain regions. He also omitted Burgundy, so I think his areas of focus are at least one reason for the narrow scope.
interestingly, in all these hundred wines, there is not only one single burgundy wine. There are new world pinot noirs and chardonnays.- but no burgundies! Maybe, he doesn't like Burgundy or Burgundy is to widespread for him with all the terroirs and different producers for the same terroir... In addition, I can't find any riesling in that list. I guess he is missing some things.
My guess is that he still covers primarily the same regions that he handled for Wine Spectator and only includes wines from those regions. Similarly, I don’t think Suckling had any Rhône wines on his list.
Too much France on the list.
There is a lot of wine from Rhône and Bordeaux on this list.
Does he know that there are countries besides France and the USA that make great wines?
His areas of focus are definitely focused in those two countries. Unlike Suckling, I don’t think he has enough staff to cover the world.
It’s a small thing, but proper pronunciation of the French wine name/locations would add to your already present credibility.
Thank you. I’m definitely working on it.
@@AttorneySomm rest assured AS it’s still far better then mine!
@@danielplainview4778 It’s tough because I’ve heard Texas pronunciations for so long and took Spanish; not French. 😂 I prepare for the pronunciations as I record but most of the time there are still some disgruntled viewers.
@@AttorneySomm I feel you. I often have NEVER heard the pronunciations out loud before but come across them in my readings frequently. Some of the biggest laughs I’ve had at wine dinners have been at my own expense fumbling through names (seems I get worse at it the more I drink!)
