I've only recently began to embrace the virtues of the Chrysler minivans. I borrowed one over the Christmas and New Year's holiday I believe a 2009 model absolutely loved it.
Too bad, so sad. Pretty clean, but these were heaps of junk (although they sold well): We got the VIN, we win: 2B4 for Canadian made Dodge MPV, F for 4,000 to 5,001 # GVWR, K51 for Dodge Caravan, G for 2.6L four cylinder engine with two barrel, Mitsubishi sourced "MCA Jet", 1 is a check digit, H for the 1987 model year, R for Windsor, Ontario Canada assembly and the rest is the production sequence. The Windsor plant opened in 1928 and still operates today as the main minivan plant. We got the tag, we can brag: MWA for roof rack, NDA for catalytic converter, YJA for new vehicle service, END for end of sales codes, JHB for rear wiper and washer, JKD for remote fuel filler door release, JPB for power door locks, LAM for door ajar warning lamp, CYB for bucket seats, CYE for seven passenger seating, GKC for right sliding door with vented glass, GTK for power mirrors, HAA for air conditioning, 909 for Tuesday, September 9, 1986 production scheduling, DGA for three speed automatic transmission, U for USA destined vehicle, APB for waterfall two-tone exterior paint, PA1 for Eiger Silver exterior paint, QS8 for Charcoal accent exterior paint, EEA should be for the 2.6L four cylinder, among other codes. This appears to have possibly been assembled on August 28, 1986 which was a Thursday, and possibly scheduled to ship on September 9, 1986. The 2.6L is probably why it's there. They are pieces of junk and when the 2.5L with fuel injection came out, it was a better engine.
Is that red pinstripe an option? I had a similar van, V-6 grand ,optioned, didn't have that stripe. Maybe came with the running boards, which seems to help all vehicles protect rockers from salt and other damage.
@@NathansMoparGarage Who knows the story. Maybe someone passed away and the family just pitched it. Maybe something majorly wrong put it there. Who knows.
The people who were taking it apart seemed to be careful with it too, they did it cleanly leaving all the wires in place, left the bolts and used a rag to stop water and soot from entering the open ports. They knew it was nice and tried to keep it that way for others!
Had an 84’ panel van version that we put paneling and a fold down bed in. It was great fun for our kids at the drive in. 2.6 was definitely better engine than the 2.2
Actually, it wasn't. The Dodge Omni and Plymouth Horizon which came out in 1978 actually saved them and kept them afloat until the K-car came out in 1981. After that point, mostly everything front wheel drive was a "Sperlich Special", and by then Chrysler was profitable and had repaid their government loans. Yes, these did help them greatly, but if they waited until then, Chrysler would have been out of business.
Tomato Tom a to....the Ford guy saved Mopar aka Iacocca using both the omlet and the caravan 🚐... I say omlet cause mine was yellow side up! 😂... Man those caravan water pumps made me some money in the v6
@@NathansMoparGarage Chrysler would have been out of business if they waited for the K-car which came in 1981. They would have run out of money by then. The Omni and Horizon kept them afloat until 1981 when the K-car came out.

We had an 08 that was a great van until someone hit it. Now we have a 13
I miss the mini vans of the mid-80s and 90s . The Caravan was nice. I liked the ones with the wood panels 😎👍🏼
There used to a couple good ones. My mom used to have a Ford Aerostar.
@@NathansMoparGarage I had an 85 Astro van lowrider 😃
I still see a few of them around
Man, that thing is solid Nathan! 👀 My parents had a ton of them over the years when I was a kid. They almost always have the paint peeling on them! 😂
I think most of the 90s stuff had peeling clear coat
👍💯👍 Heck Ya! I remember that exact vehicle!
Yeah they used to be all over the place.
Those were cool.....You could get a four speed in a panel van. Life was good.
I have only seen a couple with a manual transmission. There used to be a guy at the track with a turbo van.

I figured it had to be a mechanical or title problem for it to be there.

@@paulwoodman5131 The running boards look to be aftermarket. I'd say the stripe was part of the two-tone paint option.

Definitely looked like aftermarket running boards.
We used to park one of those, even earlier, at the Perry Garage in NYC. It had a stick. (!)
Those were rare
Great shape.
Yeah it would have been a good one.
My mom bought this new in 87 I went with her to get it back in the day
Nice

Maybe they were going to fix it and gave up?
Would love to have those rims!!
The wheels may or may not be there still.

I haven't seen one of those in a long time.
Even with the dash gone I'm willing to bet that this salvage yard probably has all of the parts for the repairs right here
That was the only van like that they had when I was there.
That's the vehicle that saved Chrysler!

It definitely helped.
Isn't it pretty much on a k car platform

We had a 90 caravan when I was a kid Navy blue with 3.0 6cyl and very well optioned
Those 3.0s were good for a while.
@NathansMoparGarage other than ours burned a little oil. It was good!
I.know they had problems after they had some miles on them. They should have gotten the 2.5 turbo van 😁
@NathansMoparGarage lol right!
Perhaps you should try finding them before the junkyard 🤷🏻♂️
🍟
I wasn't even looking for one oh well.
Hey I love the hood emblem!
Makes it easier to aim it down the road.
Okay, I’m starting to look for a first generation caravan/voyager to start redoing.
I would imagine there are still some nice ones sitting in someone's garage.
This van needs rescued
That junkyard doesn't sell cars they are unfortunately not leaving in one piece
Totally a restorable unit definitely a treasure find but off to death row she will go!
It definitely has some good parts to give.
#3 Watching...😊💖
Pinch me!! 😮 NO RUST??🤔
But, plenty of tingles💋
No rust on this one.
Dang ! That is clean. Too bad it's destined for salvage.
It must been in a garage for years.
Too clean to be sitting in that yard.
That's what I thought
Damn thing is mint!
It's one of the nicest ones I have seen in a while.
@@NathansMoparGarage Same. There is a long wheelbase version of that not too far from me and looks to be regularly driven.
There are still some out there.
I would be happy to buy it it would be gone before I would ever have the extra money to buy it I would buy it
That won't be sold. But I'm sure there are more for sale.
Yeah that's a real shame that's in the junkyard my friend owned three of those
That's what I was thinking. He owned 3 of them? Did they blow up or fall apart?
Great video! You may be interested in vehicle ligthing stuff sponsorship?
How are they compared to stock bulbs?

love to buy and restore. i already have a parts car for it
That yard doesn't sell vehicles they are there for 4-6 weeks and then they are crushed.
Where is this van located?? Maybe someone can get it before it’s crushed
They don't sell vehicles. Once they're there they're just waiting for the pancaker the are usually there 4-6 weeks.
Needs to be saved
Cars don't leave that yard. They get turned in to pancakes eventually.
Very sad😢
Yeah sure is
Why...nothing that can't be fixed..
Someone gave up on it
OVERHEAD CONSOLE not counsel
According to whom?
They ad bad transmissions
Could be.
Not when they had a clutch pedal included.
I have only seen a couple of those.
