As a Goan, I can tell that the carnival is held in each city/town on a different date. The ones in Panjim and Margao are the biggest ones. The Hindus also celebrate Shigmo festival, around this time, which can be thought of as a counterpart of the Carnival.

Carnival is held only in our State in India for four days before Lent, the order always being Saturday in Panjim, Sunday in my city - Margao, Monday in Vasco and Tuesday in Mapusa. The other Carnivals, like in Benaulim held after very long are micro mni carnivals, not the regular parades or as much fun and gaiety. you need to experience those on your next visit. but I see you had a great time. Being a Goan, I never knew such a beautiful carnival in Benaulim, I watched Panjim and Mapusa one's but really looking forward to visit Benaulim if get a chance to come down in next February.

Omg i didn't know about that carnival as an Indian what a shame but will definitely visit one day...btw we do have carnival during Holi in a sophisticated traditional Bengali way here in west Bengal and day after Durga puja one of the biggest festival lasted for 10 days here(though it is only in kolkata),btw kabir's home district is really close to mine lol.

Carnival is crazy in the Netherlands and Belgium ( where I live). Last year I went to Maastricht town for Carnival. I have never seen Carnival before in India, though I know it happens in Goa and also Kochi I guess

The shigmos real name is shimga. Thats what we call it in maharastra and its celebrated in entire konkan region of maharashtra
