I think stronger hairspray does that more maybe, and certainly if you use a lot of it. I don't think it has to be that way.

That's called a Bat's Nest! Basically you spray your whole hair and then with a comb pull your hair up and down before it sets, I recommend you do it in sections.

my spray never holds, no matter how much i put in. i must be usign the wrong spray for my hair type (thick per piece, asian hair)
Use hair powder
Some hair just doesn't hold well. Mine (thick, fine, slightly wavey) just won't. Even several layers of very strong hairspray (all completely dried before the next application) will only give me a couple of hours of hold
@thegreenmanofnorwich I have the same hair type. Did you find any solution. The only I found are layers of strong clay combined with Haarspray, but I don't like loading my hair like that since im growing it out.
@@fbiguy5269 I also used to put clay on my hair and then hairspray. What I found is that it would just clog my pores and make my hair oily. Also, clay makes my heavy hair even heavier, so I stopped using it. What I currently do right now to make my straight hair hold curls hold longer is:
1. Air-dry/Blowdry my wet hair until it's 80-90% dry
2. Put some WATER-BASED hair gel (strong hold) on my damp hair and make sure the product is evenly distributed. I also part my hair the way i want it to here. I also dont put too much. Probably a teaspoon amount, but it depends on how much hair you're working with.
(After Step 2, you can combine Step 3 and 4 depending on what hairstyle you're going with.)
3. Blowdry again to set it.
4. Curl it with a curling iron. you can also curl it with a blow dryer, any method that curls or volumizes your hair will do.
5. Final step, hairspray. Use a good amount but not too much.
-- The water based hair gel is meant to be used as a form of "pre-styler". Other products are specifically labeled as "pre-stylers" and you can probably use those instead.
My curls hold for at least 5-7 hours. Sometimes even longer than that if I stay in a cool envrionment the whole day. I've gone to sleep using this specific method and i sometimes still wake up with my curls. Of course, the curls will loosen up a bit but the water-based hair gel really helps. (If you're struggling with oily hair/acne because of your hair products, switch to something water-based.)

One second never use hairspray i just found i did use it and it has alchol which makes your hair very dry. Will result in hairfall and also it doesn't make it look good. Use Hair matt paste or pomade. Or hair powder.
