So, it pretty much confirms what I've said about high end Chromebooks. They are for people and/or companies that have built a strong and reliable workflow through Google services and want a fancier and more powerful hardware option. The average user will stick to the mid range or budget friendly options, while the high end professionals and large companies will target the high end options. Looks like Google is branching out and covering more use cases. They are making gaming Chromebooks, but I would also like to see them start making content creation focused Chromebooks, as well.
I found that Steam games (on my Framework Chromebook) ran significantly better after enabling background Vulkan shader compilation (and allowing it to complete.) It reduces or eliminates the stuttering that you can see in your gaming clips.
My PT job uses Chromebooks & Google services because Google is one of our biggest clients. The company is upgrading to these Chromebooks & I can't wait to test this.
Amazing and people stay hating but chromebooks have been slowly 💪 strong arming ...the market slowly love it...just when people started saying - o Chrome takes up too much space or Chrome isn't the best browser Google said " nah hoe we a whole mf operating system " and just slowly carried out their mission the last 10 -years to fuck up the market 😅 excuse my language.
Hey Lon---there is a Windows version of this that uses an AMD processor. (HP Dragonfly Pro) That one has better battery life, but the Chromebook version has a much better screen and camera. Thanks for this as always!
Lon is always my first stop when I want to find tech reviews. Great review of what looks to be a great product. It's between this and a Framework Chromebook for me.
I thought those were downward firing speakers (in addition to the upward firing on either side of keyboard). Personally, I’m excited for this Chromebook. My last was the pixel book and was able to use it as my main work machine and just use VM for anything that requires Windows.
I don't have extensive practice with borealis, but I do recall being able to get a much smoother experience than this. I'm not sure where the difference lies, but I ran borderlands 2 using the same chip on the asus cx34, 50-60 frames, mid to high settings, and I believe 720. When I had my dragonfly elite, it was high settings, 60 frames with 1080. The issue is the chips are beasts, but they're low voltage, and there's a lack, of support, given most manufacturers flock towards microsoft.

The thing I don't understand is that people will pay a 1000 for a high end tablet, but when it comes to Chromebooks you can get way more productivity done and you don't have to pay extra for the keyboard.
I really hope there will a better and brighter 4k version of a newer chromebook, I have the samsung chromebook with the 4k super amoled display but it's not that bright, the oppo find x6 pro 1440p android phone has 2,500 nits amoled display and even more than double the brightness of this hp chromebook on this video. Basically phones displays are brighter than chromebooks, laptop displays and even gaming monitors lol, it's possible to put a very good display on chromebooks, laptops and external monitors, the manufacturers would rather sell there very expensive hardware on certain models but with mediocre displays. 450 to 500 nits is mediocre at best when smartphones have better and way brighter displays when there is more room on bigger and larger displays that can be used when viewing, creating and using content that you will be looking at with more screen real estate. I'm glad that the hp chromebook has at least 1,200 nits, the minimum should be 1,000 nits.
@@chidorirasenganz The high end processor generates the most heat since they drain the battery life just like the gpu. The processors in the phones generate heat, I know from experience every time I done a software update, the phone gets hot after doing any software updates and just by watching youtube videos, I watch youtube videos in 4k everytime there is 4k available on mobile when someone uploads 4k on there youtube channel, my z fold 4 display automatically dims itself even though I have autobrightness turned off, power savings turned off, dark mode turned off with manual brightness set to 100% 24/7 with extra brightness enabled. I have the same exact settings on all my devices enabled 24/7. There are processors that are still being made and put on smartphones that are known for over heating issues. The old lg g3 phone that I used to have along time ago gave me a warning on the screen and it says that the display with dim itself so the phone won't overheat. The newer phones don't show a warning on the screen to let you know that it will dim itself to prevent the phone from over heating. My samsung chromebook with the 4k super amoled display does not get very hot and it has the Intel i5 processor. The newer samsung chromebook has a 1080p qled display but a weaker Intel i3 processor and the display brightness is the same brightness as my super amoled 4k display, the newer samsung chromebook was a downgrade in terms of processor and display. I still have my old chromebook pixel from 2015 before the google play store existed on chromebooks since the chromebook could only get apps from the chrome web store since there was no google play store on it and it did not support the google play store and the display on the chromebook pixel from 2015 has the brightest display plus the display is very glossy which is my favorite preference out of all the chromebooks that I have used. Matte displays are too dim and it makes the displays too dark.
Why does a $1K Chromebook exist? Because some, like myself, are willing to pay for the build quality and this laptop is offering it; though, I must say, the white version is much better-looking, a stunner 👍😍
That's the one I hope some others get to review everyone keep showing the black one, we would like white colored - products as well damn.. white white use be a classic color as well manufacturers have we forgot
Paying this amount of money from a consumer perspective when Chrome limits video playback quality is not selling to me. Watching Netflix et al. at FHD+ max settings when you can have HDR UHD on laptops of similar price means this is strictly for work rather than play. Google does it to restrict piracy but maybe they need to use better tech. Easy pass.
People on $1000 Chromebooks: WOW SO EXPENSIVE GLORIFIED BROWSER (even if they haven't used a Chrome OS in like a decade) NOT WORTH IT EVEN WITH KEYBOARDS ETC TOO EXPENSIVE! Who cares if I can sideload Android Apps or run Linux apps or do actual work on it?!?! People on $1000+ iPad Pros: AWESOME machine! I want to buy THE MOST EXPENSIVE OPTION! Oh, and the on-sale $350 keyboard and the awesome $200 Apple Pencil! So sophisticated! I can't wait to use FACEBOOK AND NETFLIX ON IT.
Me personally, if I'm going to deal with an OS with training wheels - I'd rather use iPadOS. ChromeOS is of limited appeal to me. But Chromebooks are all I recommend to most "normal users" of computers these days. It's really all most mere mortals need.
I use both iPad OS and Chrome OS for work. I love that iPad hardware but chrome OS is so much more useful than iPad OS that I almost always just use the chromebook. Infinite resizable windows, no restrictions on overlap and a real file system make chrome os a joy to use over iPad os.

Lon, I love that you make that caveat about streaming content through subscriptions through the browser while online for best video quality, but HATE that you still HAVE TO say that because well over 5 YEARS of Google Play Store being on CHromebooks, it is STILL AN ISSUE! Like, hey, give us at worst 1080p, HDX, whatever each app calls it. That's fine enough. THe fact we're in 2023, with $20+ subscriptions EACH on devices OVER $999 that ONLY DO 480p STANDARD DEFINITION in the way MOST PEOPLE are USED TO?! It's legitimately pathetic and IDK if it's Google's fault, or each developer's fault (Netflix, VUDU, Disney+), but the fact that Play Movies app, by Google, CAN do 1080p leads me to believe developers STILL don't take Chromebooks and CHromeOS seriously.

Not just google services any web apps. Figma, Framer, Webflow, Spline etc
As a creative using a CB as a secondary device, I wouldn’t really use even a powerful CB as a primary one. No desktop level Adobe Suite apps.
