  • This is a mono version of the recording. Check out www.solidcitizens.com.au with new releases previewed.
"Singing in the shower" was the first single by 1980s Brisbane (Australia) band Solid Citizens through RCA Records. The video version of this song is in mono (as was the practice in the day).
A re-release original full stereo of the recording through Sony is available in a compilation CD "Run to Paradise: Australian Pop of the 80's - Volume 4" hitting the stores in 2012.
Recorded at the UK Manor Studios in 1984 by Mike Shipley (The Cars, Def Leppard, AC/DC, Nickleback, Shania Twain, Joni Mitchell, Green Day etc) and Mark Goldenberg (Pointer Sisters, Chicago), Solid Citizens were Mick Walker and Glen Muirhead. "Singing in the Shower" was written by Walker, Muirhead, John Barnes and published by Gilbey/MCA. Danielle Spencer (daughter of actor Don Spencer and wife of Russell Crowe) featured in the video produced by the "K Team" of Sue Davis and John Whitteron who also did "Who Can It Be Now" for Aussie band "Men at Work". Also featuring in the clip is Geoff Lungren on bass and Steve Fernley on drums. The song was a top 40 hit in Australia, and in the large regional cities of Bathurst and Bendigo, it entered the charts at #1 knocking off Michael Jackson's current national one hit. The band was going to call the album "Big in Bathurst" but RCA dropped all their Australian bands for financial reasons and the album was never finished. The song was included on various compilation albums. Glen went on to play in many Australian bands and Mick went to the UK as a songwriter. The recording sessions were interesting for other reasons, as studio and Virgin Records owner, Richard Branson was also residing at the studios, and spent days being exposed to Aussie culture, humour and go-cart driving expertise by the band members. A good time was had by all.
A version of the song was included in the popular ABC TV series "Sweet and Sour" and is on the soundtrack album. Just heard ABC is re-releasing a CD of Sweet and Sour... so that's great for all the fans who loved the original sound track. Noni Hazlehurst also did a cover version of the song on her album "Shouts and Whispers"

Great song and video alike. Looks like it was a lot of fun to make, a shame that you don't get too many bands making clips like this anymore. :)

Sony Music are re-releasing "Singing in the Shower" on their new compilation double CD "Run to Paradise" Volume 4 which will be available in stores in Australia from February 10th, 2012. Although the video here is in mono (as was the practice in the day), the stereo re-mastered track has been lovingly restored to its original quality from vinyl in the UK by Richard Spears (with special thanks to Brent James)
