- Made in 1984, Intergalactic Pictures first clip was an ambitious exercise to kick off with. In my opinion though, it's one of our best clips. The Rads were great fun to work with, so the shoot was a hoot and of course it's a great song which became a big hit in Australia. I like the scene were the cult book (at the time) The Dice Man, by Luke Rhinehart, saves the life of Brains, the Rads' lead singer. I'd read it not long before, it's all about making life choices using dice and it heavily influenced the creative concept. The mad doctor is me.

Man I loved Sydney in the 80s, great bands every Saturday night, crawling the pubs in St George & The Shire, beers and smokes were cheap, no one was obese, chicks were hot and of course The Mighty Rads! A few mates and I, (mostly two of us who dragged the others around) must’ve seen the Rads 50 times back then. We’d drive all over Sydney to see them -St George Sailing Club, Revesby Workers, Selina’s, Dee Why, you name it. I was obsessed with the Rads for a few years. I remember New Years Eve, maybe 1986, I was 20 and we saw them at Revesby Workers, some guy gave me a few puffs of a joint and I was so stoned I had to go outside and lay down because I was spinning. I woke up in the garden out the front about 9am! No one there, so embarrassing haha.obviously friends thought I’d found a girl or something. Crazy times.
The thing about the Rads was they were so original, loads of quirky songs, but expertly played and the boys antics were heaps of fun. Thanks boys for making my early 20s great fun, never disappointed!
Great song and underrated. It lives on as one that reminds me of the 80's.
Masterpiece, track and video.
Ron Cooper used to play this one on Rock Til Dawn in 1985. It's still a favourite
a forgotten Gem from the Rads!
Hi Mike, your film clip for life's a gamble perfectly fits the song. 😎👍
Thank you, I've been looking for a copy of this for a few years since it was last removed from youtube.
Good one Heff. Interesting about the book. A Bit Of Pain Never Hurts is back on you tube again.
Hey man, I grew up listening to life's a gamble and love that album, can you post a copy of night slave? I miss that song and I cant find it anywhere on the net ...peace.

Hi, Mike.
Just wondering. Do you happen to have any insight on why this song doesn’t seem to be available commercially any more?
I can find iTunes stuff for all sorts of other stuff by the Rads, but this song just seems to have never had a deal made for it.
It’s one of my favourite songs from the 80s but I never had it on single or album.
@seantheotherone7245 - it's currently up on a certain auction site in LP format, but with a hefty Buy It Now price of $49.90.
The single is up there as well, with a more affordable price starting around the $6 upwards range.
Also available in cassette format and on various compilations of that time, but sadly, no CD.

Record prices?
😂🤣😂
Rads are looking at getting the rights back to some of their back catalogue and putting on Spotify etc.
Pick the book?
Hi Mike - are you the surgeon in this clip?
That’s me!
