It's not very often that a musician comes along that not only has phenomenal talent for writing and composing brilliant songs, but also has endless talent for performing those songs live. Then soon after their career takes off, they take it even higher and transcend musical genres to seemingly become a genre all their own. Prince did that. You cannot put him into a category or genre. His music is of the genre "Prince"! That's it! Prince is beloved by EVERYONE EVERYWHERE, black, white, hispanic, asian, native, islanders, and everyone else. At first I was going to stop here, but I realize Prince didn't just attract people of every ethnicity as fans, he also attracted people that traditionally like other genres. The diehard fans of Rock, Hard Rock, Metal, Grunge, Progressive, Punk, Hip Hop, Gansta Rap, R&B, Soul, Funk, and all the other types of popular music ALL came to love and be fans of Prince, too. I can sum it up with a few words. Prince is the GOAT. The whole world loves him and always will! ❤✌️👍🤘🙏❤️
Despite the somewhat tragic lyrics, this might be the most joyous and energetic live performance by any musical act ever. It is certainly Prince and band at the peak of their powers. And that guitar solo at the end! Truly magical. The world be a better place if Prince was still alive and this video had a billion views.
Mari Reyna - You know what's amazing about Prince, unlike any of Today's artists. He never did Lip Sync in Concert. Do you even know what kind of shape and cardio he had to be in for ALL of those years, jumping from heights down to the stage, in heels no less, dancing, making it to the Mic on que not missing a beat. The man not only was "PERFECTION" he was "GIFTED" & a "GIFT TO MANY", he was an "INSPIRATION", as he too "INSPIRED", he had a "TROUBLED" childhood and for a lot of us, his music was our "ESCAPE" from our troubled childhood, he was " ANONYMOUSLY GIVING" my opinion the way it should be, & "IT HELPED MANY". He was so many different things to millions of people over the years; however, when it comes down to it I don't think he was happy after losing his son, I don't think he truly could erase the image. After all Prince too was human, he had feelings, I think as an Artist you probably tend too have more. Compile the pain of your body from dancing all those years and emotional pain of wanting too forget, it's a perfect storm. One thing I know for certain; I am, "Thankful to Prince for Gifting Us Decades of Amazing Music, No One Will Replace You as My Number One, As I Told You Before, You Can Now Be "Free" To Be Free of Pain and "Free" To Be With Your Son." You'll Never Be Forgotten!!! I'm not even sure if he could have imagined the impact, he really made on so many of us, it truly is a shame he didn't have anyone who cared enough too stand up him. That's what real family and friends do, and for those that say they had no idea, I still say B.S.
You missed something very special. Prince was so extremely talented, energetic, vibrant, and absolutely enthralling. His live shows were magical events. I've never seen his equal.

I wonder how long it took for Prince to craft such an amazing guitar solo? Most of the time he was quick with recording music, some times he waited until he perfected it until it was finished.
@@michaelone9475this songs pretty old he created it in around 79 so he’s had it since his second album. There’s a demo from 79 out there too, he probably recorded it pretty quickly and just improvised on it.
Prince's death was the biggest loss to music since Lennon's assassination in 1980...we will never see the likes of the Purple One again in our lifetime,,,and probably a few lifetimes after that too,,,,at minimum....I miss him every day...
@Steve OK..i'l take a stab. Obviously, it is well known that Prince possessed a wonderful and unique falsetto- immediately recognizable. And while his baritone is not one of particular note he definitely improved it through the years and there are plenty of examples of his excellent capabilities there (Shhh, live version of nothing compares for example). He certainly did not have “trouble carrying a note,” Far from it there’s plenty of great live examples of his singing and he very rarely is off key. The guitar god thing has been debated to death. He’s great. Plenty of examples. It’s a bit subjective but Miles Davis called him a genius on guitar and that’s good enough for me. Seriously, listen to live version of Just my Imagination…I could go on but would rather focus on lyrical content. Because he’s underrated there… Lyrically, oh boy are you way off base. There are so many examples of his brilliant and perceptive lyrics and at his best almost non cliched. Songs such as Pop Life, If I was your Girlfriend, SOTT, Last December, Anastasia, Controversy, Sexuality, 7, Holy River, When u were mine, and on and on so aptly get under social realities few pop writers have ever ventured to face. His navigating the extremes of sex and god opened a pandora’s box of unanswered questions that invites us back time and again. I could write pages on some of his absolute genius works that reflect that but let me dive right into the wheelhouse you use as an example of lack of lyrical depth- the 1999 album. He was in his mid 20 so okay there’s some immaturity there but look deeper. Oh, I could easily go to the genius of Little Red Corvette and talk about it being the tightest metaphor between sex and cars in rock history. And of course LRC is really a double metaphor- it’s not just sex but also LRC refers to a womans privates.. Machiavellian Dirty little prince. 😊 No , dig into into the B side where he explores the depths of relationships as described by the color wheel theory of love in psychology. Automatic- Starts off in a Mania love, This type of love tends to lead a partner into a type of madness and obsessiveness. On the color wheel, it is represented by the color purple!!! Of course…He constructs the vocal delivery in an hypnotic, trance like state. Totally subservient and under control of his master. The whole thing devolves into sadomasochism as a foreshadowing/metaphor for the pain you feel in this type of behavior. Next is Something in the Water Does not compute which moves into an Eros type love but that devolution is met with “treating a man so bad.” He is repeatedly hurt over and over. Confusion sets in as he examines his failed relationships and climaxes with his legendary screams- both anger and sadness and finally acceptance. Then Lady Cab Driver- Having been blinded and hypnotized by love, then hurt over and over again Prince emerges as the Ludus lover- now dominate and in control. He is no longer interested in committed relationships but rather just the fun and adventure of casual sex. But ah he’s not done there. Taking us through an epic trilogy wasn’t enough- the emotional center is a class work on the social views of sex and love- all at the center of this magnificent work. Yes, he has sex with his antagonist. But each pelvic thrust is dedicated to some form of lover or hate, good and bad, sex and devine. You can dismiss this as overly sexed drivel and that works! Or you can dive into the rabbit hole and analyze the complexity of the concepts and the social backslap this whole thing represents. Man and this is the tip of the iceberg of great lyrical work in his career…so much more. He wasn’t perfect, nobody is, and there plenty of examples of lazy songwriter but man at his peak he is something to behold. But I’ll finish with this- overrated comment: He is: 1. Guitarist - in the conversation as on of the greats. 2. Vocalist- great. 2. Lyrical writer- in the conversation as one of the greats. 3. Live performer- in the conversation as one of the greats. 4. Dancer- great. 5. Producer- great. 6. Multi instrumentalist- in the conversation as one of the greats. 7. Engineer- he could do it. 8 Composer- pop one of the greats. 9. Prolificacy - in the conversation as most prolific. 10. Ehh I could go on but why… Nobody ticks all those boxes- thus not overrated but actually underrated…. Crying indeed…
@Steve Overrated as defined by fans saying he was the greatest at all things. That I understand. It is absurd. But I can't think of any other act that did all those things so well. I mean the Beatles were an entire band, and couldn't dance. :) There is subjectivity when it's comes to who is the best. He was a great guitarist but man I'd have a hard time calling him better, or worse than Hendrix, Gilmour, BB king, Van Halen, Satriani, Hammet, Vai and so on. But it is an honor that he is in that conversation- and that should not be looked at as a bad thing. So many great flavors. My main point though was don't sleep on him as a lyricist... yeah there was a lot of chaff but that wheat made for some really nice whiskey...think i'll have some angel's envy in his honor and listen to the just released 1977 recording of ICNTTPOYM... www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/prince-1979-i-could-never-take-the-place-of-your-man-1029783/
What I love is how generous Prince was. He let everyone shine. Yes, he's the star but you can see him here encouraging everyone in the band to have fun - they're working together as a team and everyone's at the top of their game. You can feel it. A real bandleader and genius who wrote songs for other artists and made them successful too. He didn't need to hog the spotlight because he knew he was a genius and a confident person doesn't need to push other people out of the way.
I don't think I would go out of my way to see The Revolution or the NPG play. As great as they were, Prince was the glue that held the together and made the complete package.
I think that's why he was always so uncomfortable with his stardom. He knew, without conceit, that he was an extraordinary artist, but he didn't think that made him an extraordinary person. He had a few "rock star" moments, but he was as normal as he could be in his situation. He was as good at organizing and hiring great talent as he was at his songwriting craft. Every part of a Prince song that is not played by Prince, could have been played by Prince, but he decided to hire someone in particular to play it.

I wasn’t ever a big Prince fan, but I held a lot of respect for him as a performer/musician. I remember when he passed, I posted this song on social media while everyone else posted “purple rain” . This song was my favorite Prince song. A few people remarked that they had never even heard it before. It amazes me that Prince had such a stellar catalogue that even his lesser known songs were just as solid as the well-known hits

I tear up watching every Prince video on here.. especially his early wild man stage
Yes! You are right; Prince was in his own category!
I love his cute facial expressions in this video. He looks like he is having fun.
Elizabeth Bass Heard he was a fun person. You can also see his fun side in the Party Man Video
And the video for Black Sweat...
Absolutely The Best Musician/Guitarist EVER......💯
without a shadow of a doubt
One of the best songs on this album! Prince was on Fire 🔥. That solo was burning metal and Sheila E. was killing it on the drums! Incredible!
True, but most of the songs on that album are one of the best songs on that album.
Sheila E. kills it on Drums Prince on Guitar!!!!! One of favs Prince Songs!!!
Despite the somewhat tragic lyrics, this might be the most joyous and energetic live performance by any musical act ever. It is certainly Prince and band at the peak of their powers. And that guitar solo at the end! Truly magical. The world be a better place if Prince was still alive and this video had a billion views.
Listen to Dokken or Ratt, there you find the joy and energy. This dude was overrated.
@@r.g.armstrong2688haha
Beautiful words, sir.
The drums are out of sight..... get it GIRL!!!!!!!!
How I wish I could've seen him in concert 💟💜💟
Mari Reyna -
You know what's amazing about Prince, unlike any of Today's artists.
Me to 😔 and he toured England a few years ago and could have
Mari Reyna I seen him once in concert back in 83
I saw him In Chattanooga Tn 1997-98?
Prince was so cold. Miss him more and more. Straight legend.
He is a shredder but so different from other guitarist, his solo contains an amazing time feel, space, and tasty syncopation !
sleazy, smooth but grinding ,one of the greatest axemen in our time ! xx
@@quintork4100 DOWN N DIRTY in the Best way EVER. HIS TALENT FLOORS ME!! I never expected him to die so soon. REST WELL PRINCE. AND know that you made a great impression on earth and we miss you dearly💔
@@Charlie-cz3jh did you know that david bowie shares the same birthday as elvis presley!its all quite mad as at live aid ive always said that bowie was king and freddy mercury was the queen ! there is so much love in music so prince could have been "THE KING!" if he made it ,but i think there is alot of murder 4 money in music !!!!!! all my love from the dark mountains of north wales uk xxxxxxx
Definitely a shredder!!
Loved watching him play with Eric Clapton and Tom petty then all 3 died not far apart.😭
STILL BUMPIN THIS IN 2022.....

What a joyful, highly skilled guitar solo. If you don't smile listening to this guitar solo, you have a hole in your soul.
I always come back to this to lift my mood lol
I wonder how long it took for Prince to craft such an amazing guitar solo? Most of the time he was quick with recording music, some times he waited until he perfected it until it was finished.
@@michaelone9475this songs pretty old he created it in around 79 so he’s had it since his second album. There’s a demo from 79 out there too, he probably recorded it pretty quickly and just improvised on it.
He was the best Musician of our Time! One of a Kind, unique, unparaleled! My favorite Guitarist of all Time
One of the best songs by PRINCE!!!
I totally agree with you, This song is one THE BEST by Prince!
@@thrillsinthenight9935 Same here, his sparkles like a flawless diamond!
I love this version more than the studio recording. Prince was a once in a lifetime performer/musician. He’s missed dearly.
This was his BEST BAND EVER!! My homegirl is KILLING the drum kit!!!
I think this is the most perfect song I ever heard it’s just everything right
Shelia E
You can talk about Michael Jackson; great entertainer. But, Prince was a musician. I rest my case
I rest mine with you out there
The Emperor of Music period'
Musician and entertainer
I’ve been trying to figure out for 40 years why the “general” public can’t avoid mentioning them together. Different styles and talents.
Manly, gorgeous, charming and ( damn) gone 💔😢…
Prince's death was the biggest loss to music since Lennon's assassination in 1980...we will never see the likes of the Purple One again in our lifetime,,,and probably a few lifetimes after that too,,,,at minimum....I miss him every day...
Prince was the GOAT. But remember, Bob Marley died in I believe 81'.
Very well said Roger Prince Jr.
I Agree Prince and MJackson
Because he’s underrated there…
Lyrically, oh boy are you way off base. 😊
No , dig into into the B side where he explores the depths of relationships as described by the color wheel theory of love in psychology.
10. Ehh I could go on but why…
Nobody ticks all those boxes- thus not overrated but actually underrated….

You are so right.
@@chelsearogers1289 Which is why he was the G O A T!

Love him in the 80s and still do. For me, he’s the greatest musician of all time.
I concur
The depth of Prince's message in his music and the showmanship in his performances are simply undeniable an unmatched. What a gift he was!
Keith Oltmans _ He still is a Gift.. Through his Music! Just you wait until the Vault materials are released..oh, you'll feel the Gift!🎸❤

Wow that WAS INCREDIBLE TO WATCH!!!! How gorgeous and talented was this man!
3:19 I swear I’ve hit rewind about 50 times...WE MISS YOU PRINCE
Prince is still my therapist in #2020
RIP ☔️
I don't care what anyone says this man was the GOAT at guitar!
Yep, never should his guitar skill be underestimated.
Gonna be polite and say no he wasn't the best (top 20 imo) but he is the king of wearing literally every musical hat under the sun
I more than agree...saw him live multiple times over the years and he was truly an amazing soloist. For some reason his guitar skills are overshadowed by everything else he was amazing at.
He was the best guitar player in the world fact and he was so handsome sexy yea Texas
well DUHHHHHHHHHH!!! WTF
Best performer ever. I saw him twice on stage in Holland! He left us a history of songs and video's. Save this 4 the future.
This Man was a true ARTIST!!!!!!!!!! ....NO ONE WILL COME CLOSE 2 HIS TALENT!!!!
Prince nails this solo, highly underrated as a guitar player which he had few equals. He was the complete package no doubt. Apparently he could pick up almost any instrument and master it in minutes. A genius who will be missed.
Underrated by whom, please?
Sheila E. on drums is just amazing! An not bad on the eyes btw!
Prince was the best Musician of our time, simply the LEGEND🧡💜
His guitar was just an extension of his beautiful voice
I never get sick of watching it. No one can take the place of Prince. Some people lived to see Beethoven, some Mozart but l lived to see the greatest of all time...Prince.
Good lord a genius. The man did it all. So glad i grew up with this legend. Rest in peace prince. Your music and legacy will last forever. No one can touch him ever!
The words to this song are so underrated... It's heartbreaking that although he was greatly appreciated... So many of his songs weren't recognized for how great they were. Like the name of the album Sign of the times he never stayed one way he was a multiverse in itself and i am happy to have been here while he was here... Even shook his hand but that another story for another time. Thank you Prince for making a soundtrack to all of our lives. Rip
He could kill a guitar riff no matter what. He was a guitar genius.
so YOU play guitar?????
Great musician, writer ,multi instrumentalist, very talented man gone too soon
Damn, Sheila kills it on the drums....sooooo badasss!!!
indiroca808 doesn't she? What a pretty and talented lady!
Lisa Knell _She's got the whole House *quaking* ❤
Now see, I would lose my cool if they were to release a video (or footage) or just the audio of Housequake!
I mean REALLY..LOL!
Prince loved playing with women who were beautiful and super talented too!
I saw The Man on the "LoveSexy" tour with Ms. Escovedo on drums. She takes part of her solo, Prince says "Not bad...for a girl" and then she REALLY lit the MFer up! Amazing stuff.
Guy Fawkes, saw this tour in Greensboro NC fall 1988. He raised his game every single tour. He was a complete musician/showman in every manner. RIP Prince...
MN resident here. We, as a nation, miss him so. God always takes the great so early. He sees our sorrow and will create the next musical genius to bless us with.
My favorite Prince song. And if that guitar solo is not one of the best of all time I don’t know what is.
That guitar play from the 2:55 to the 3:30 mark is off the chain!
Yessss
Agree 👍
Look at Sheila! What a masterpiece Miss him so…
Man that orange outfit... this had to be one of my era of costumes from Prince. Around the Sign ☮️ The Times period he was kinda going for flashy, androgynous hippy with the denim, feathers in his hair, peace signs, philosopher glasses, and hits of peach and black 🍑🖤☮️✝️
We had the Queen of Soul, the King of Pop..and Prince of ALL MUSIC.😢(POAM)
I wasn’t ever a big Prince fan, but I held a lot of respect for him as a performer/musician. I remember when he passed, I posted this song on social media while everyone else posted “purple rain” . This song was my favorite Prince song. A few people remarked that they had never even heard it before. It amazes me that Prince had such a stellar catalogue that even his lesser known songs were just as solid as the well-known hits
That guitar solo is everything.
This Whole Sign of the Times DVD Is Pure Class Love it .
I hope that eventually some day that WB puts out his music & his videos in HD! I gotta see my guy in 4K
Deffo.
This live version took the song 🎵 2 a whole nother level 🎚!! They should have used the whole song because he makes that cloud 🌫 guitar 🎸 cry!! We will never have a genius like him again!
I just miss not seeing him 😭😢😢 e
The live version of that whole album is next level
To say I'm shocked at Cat's passing is an understatement. Sometimes life seems so unfair. RIP Cat 💜😪
All the praise comes after the world has got tired of ripping a human being apart. Thank you Prince Rogers Nelson for your music. I was too young to hear you then but hear you now and always will
Is there anything he couldn't do? What a star.

How prince could turn a real life experience into a pop music gem is beyond me
