The plot was iffy, and they ruined the Mandarin. Killian was kinda a lame villain. The exploding bad guys were kinda meh.
Tony going thru ptds was cool. It was a turning point in his MCU story arc.
It deserves to be near the bottom of MCU movies with Thor 2.

One thing I love about this movie besides the amazing mental health and panic attack representation, is the fact that Tony gets stripped of his suit. It really shows that he is more than his suit, you know that hes smart but in this movie you get to see him build gadgets just off the top of his head and I just like how you get to see him fight without his suit for a bit.

This has always been my favorite Iron Man movie. The humanizing anxiety stuff, and seeing Tony’s quick thinking with limited resources is some of the best Iron Man content.

Shane Black should come back and direct another MCU movie, he really nails the comedy in this one. The jokes arent overbearing and even if you dont like them they come and go pretty quick and agreed I love seeing when the Superhero is able to still be a Hero without the suit

The problem with what they did to The Mandarin is that he was originally Iron Man's primary antagonist. Saying he doesn't really exist would have the same impact as saying The Joker never really existed in a Batman movie.

Fun fact: That skydiving scene was shot practically with the RedBull skydiving team. The final landing scene was show on the wire with huge crane.

  • @randallwong7196
    @randallwong7196 Рік тому +7

The scene of people falling, and being rescued, from Air Force One, had some real physical effects. A small bunch of actual skydivers were used, with all of them wearing bulky clothing to hide the parachutes, for part of the images. The end scene has a stunt dude on a type of scaffolding attached to a helicopter, with the dude standing in for Iron Man; the rest of the people are there too. CGI used to change the stunt dude to Iron Man. The scene needed a few takes to get everyone falling in the water with a proper look.

At 15:26 you said, that the suit was a new design, but actually all of them were and if you paid attention you could see the specific elements of all of them, in which they were perfected. There were ones for underwater, space, heat, cold and really everything. It’s really cool how much effort went into this film.

I like the fact that you split these into two parts. On rare occasion, they come up when I'm limited on time, so I get 1 in before I have to go and catch part 2 as soon as I can later. The only down side is, most of the time I watch them back to back and in my rush to get to part 2, I forget to 'like' part 1. I do always remember to go back though. Great reactions and please keep this current format!

Some fans didn't like this movie. The Mandarin is Iron Man's archenemy in the comics. The Joker to Tony's Batman. This fake out disappointed some fans. Disney decided against the actual Mandarin in part because he's a bit of a racist caricature.
Also the first to movies were directed by Favreau. This one was Shane Black. So it's less an Iron Man movie and more a Shane Black movie featuring Tony Stark.
Personally, I liked it a lot. I love Shane Black and I liked seeing Tony deal with the emotional fallout from the Battle of New York.

Remember what I mentioned in the Avengers comments section, Tony has been working on functions for his suits. Each suit has a specific purpose, Mark 42 for example was his latest in how to always have the suit available... no bracelets this time. Each suit had a specific purpose. Even the scene where he saves Pepper by putting Mark 42 on her has significance.
In the comics Pepper finds a suit after stumbling upon a secret room in her Stark Industries office. The suit was originally nicknamed "Iron Man Armor MK 1616," though it would eventually become known as the Rescue Armor, due to "Rescue" being the alias Pepper adopted while wearing the armor.
Mark 17: Artillery Level RT Suit "Heartbreaker"
Mark 33: Enhanced Energy Suit "Silver Centurion"
Mark 35: Disaster Rescue Suit "Red Snapper"
Mark 38: Heavy Lifting Suit "Igor"
Mark 39: Sub Orbital Suit "Gemini"
    Mark 40:Hyper Velocity Suit "Shotgun"
    Mark 41:Skeleton suit "Bones"
Mark 30: Silver Centurian Upgrade "Blue Steel"
    Mark 40:Heavy Construction Suit "Striker/Thumper"

I always thought the reason was because of how he designed them for easy access and easy removal. The joints and joins were easier to come apart for that reason and the suits were made in smaller pieces vs mark 2 which had large pieces that were screwed together vs whatever he used so they could join in the field. If any of that makes sense lmao

This is a divisive one but it's one of my favorites. Without the suit Tony relies on his intelligence to get him through but his PTSD keeps him at odds with himself. He uses the suits to cope but can't quite reconcile his desire to live a life with Pepper with his desire to protect her. It's a central part to Tony's overarching story in these movies.

    1. yes, Tony had been busy since New York..if you're wondering how many did he made, the latest is Mark42, thats 42 different suits..only 5 blew-up during the house destruction..
    2. its nice you enjoyed it..its one of the mcu films that didnt went quite right for the fans..one of the reasons is how they handled The Mandarin..in the comics, The Mandarin is known villain of Iron Man..but eventually, they fixed this issue in a future film..but also, dont worry..you'll get into the best ones soon..
    3. one of the good things of this film is how they handle the anxiety attacks of a human in a tin can, who dealt with alien invation..it made Tony Stark very human in a sense..
    4. one of the things that made this Iron Man movie different from the 1st two is maybe the director..Jon Favreau (Happy, Stark's driver/ bodyguard) directed the 1st 2..Shane Black directed the 3rd..
    5. next is Thor: The Dark World..be mindful of the details that will be explained in this movie..
    great reaction guys..

Jon Favreau, who plays Happy, also directed the first two Iron Man movies & didn't return for this one which is why there's a different feel for the movie.
Robert Downey Jr. enlisted Shane Black who directed him in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang for Three. I've always enjoyed Black's films, which all seem to take place around christmas time for some reason. He does a good job of balancing action & comedy.

This is a great entry, I think it sets up Stark and Rhodie very well for the rest of the series. It is directed by Shane Black who is a writer/director who has been making cool action movies for a very long time. He wrote the script for Lethal Weapon, and was one of the Arnie's strike team in the movie Predator. My favorite movies of his are Kiss, Kiss, Bang, bang which is large part proved RDJ was ready to take on a leading role again, and then The Nice Guys which didn't come out that long ago and is criminally underrated.

You will notice that throughout the entirety of this phase, in each film someone will lose an arm. This is a reference to Star Wars and how Luke lost his arm. In this one, it was the scene at 16:54 where Killian gets his arm chopped off.

  • @recker198

When I first saw Iron Man 3 back in 2013 I hated it, over the years though, I've come to appreciate the movie. It's not what was promised, the marketing for it made it seem like a serious, thriller type movie. And the Mandarin, big villain from the comics, was definitely not what we got. It wasn't a very popular decision.
Still, I think the movie did a lot things right. Tony's character progression after the Avengers, having panic attacks because of what happened to him, almost dying at the Battle of New York, developing PTSD even. Any normal person would and he is, so it's cool that they went with that for him. The new suit dynamic was really cool. And every fight we're seeing Tony's ingenuity, being stripped from his suit constantly and when not, it's the -not fit for battle- Mark 42, so he has to adapt constanly throughout the movie creating gadgets on the spot. You can really tell he's genius in this. The humor I thought work well for the most part, specially with the kid character Tony meets. They had good chemistry.
The one thing I didn't care for too much was Killian, and his final battle, but it wasn't super horrible or anything, just whatever. The Mandarin twist doesn't bother me either. I like the movie, not the greatest Iron Man, but still a solid MCU entry.

I think that the REAL point of the movie is, no matter what, you still have to go on ... and that you can still make a difference without all the "toys and gadgets" that Tony normally had ... and that it was all really NOT about that stuff. It was about Tony Stark, the man, and about his growth arc, mentally.

Between the heat and strength (and the fact that many of the suits seen here aren't built for combat) the suits just have a hard time withstanding attacks here.

This is generally not a well-loved MCU movie, largely due to how they treated the Mandarin (who is a true villain in the comics, similar to how he's portrayed in the early part of this film). I love the true portrayal of Tony's PTSD, which makes sense, but I'm so frustrated how NO ONE (Pepper, Tony, the other Avengers) try to help him. It makes me so sad for him. His fear after the Battle of New York will continue to drive his actions for years, as you'll see.

Such a frustrating film. There's this setup with Tony's PTSD and a melange of credible threats…and then suddenly we're dealing with a "cute' kid and cartoon villains, and we have suit parts that can fly 832 miles in under a minute (the speed of sound is 767 mph; there should have been GIGANTIC sonic booms all the way to Florida) and we find that the whole "segmented suit" biz is just a gag for Tony to get hit in the crotch, repeatedly. Fourth-rate "comedy" that destroys the credibility of the story.
(Gee, if the parts go to where Tony has an implant, does that mean he has one…down there? Did he stick one in Pepper, too? So when he's in the mood, he just wiggles his hips and she zips to him. Trailing sonic booms in her wake, no doubt.)
Clearly this was meant as an exit point if RDJ was going to walk from the series (I think he had a contract negotiation around this time) so you get this not-ending, with the suits and the shrapnel all gone, but then we still get "I am Iron Man" anyhow.
And Tony's psych issues are completely NOT resolved. Which probably doesn't augur so well.
So, kind of a botch, IMO. It will eventually have a place in the longer storyline, but I feel it could have been executed MUCH better. (It doesn't help that Jon Favreau quit directing these films because he had another project in the works. Shane Black has never impressed me as a director ["Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" was a fine story, but nothing special as filmmaking], and this didn't help.)
In the end, it makes as much sense as, say, a Christmas movie that was released in May. Which this one was. Sigh.
(Next movie is a huge improvement, IMO.)

This movie really hammers home how Rhodey is really more of an equal, in terms of wit and personality, to Tony; unfortunately, the writing for the first "Iron Man", and Terence Howards' style, didn't really show that. Rhodey was much more of a pushover in the first movie. Don Cheadle just runs away with the role.
