Thank you for your opinions on the current boat market. From my observations of being a “buyer” for a year, your comments are right on track. Keep them coming👍🏼
Thank You Paul for your help and Wisdom in our sale of the 2004 Mainship 400.. And Thank You for Mentioning Bob Swartz at A&M Yacht Sale at Dog River Marina.. You All are Great and Honest Folks to Work With.. That today is refreshing.
Jerry words cannot describe the friendship with you, thank you and always look forward to talking with you and seeing where you’re at. GOD Bless and thanks for being a part of my life
Thank you for being honest and truthful. People won't hear it, but it's awesome you're trying to wake people up. I'm looking for a 36-38ft "single guy" trawler. I have cash, BUT I will not bail someone out of their mess. I bet I have looked at 30 boats, not one is worth the asking price based upon the work that needs to be done. I also believe BUC needs to put GIANT disclaimers on their boat values. Buc is why a lot of people are misled about the value of their boats.
You are 100% correct in your video. As I've said, It's difficult to find the perfect boat. I've been looking for a boat 40' - 45'. It must come with low hours, "AND" a beautiful woman 40-45 years old, she must be able to drive the boat, and must be rich. If she's not rich, that's a deal breaker in this market. So, I changing my criteria, "she" can be 44-47 years old, hopefully I will find that perfect boat now? Well, it's still not working, most boats I see are overpriced and the cost of repairs/updates puts the value in lala land. 😀😀
Great UA-cam Paul. My boat was in Dog River for a year and I know Bob as well. Presently the boat is at Two George’s Marina Shalimar Fl. Like you i also had a boat on Lake Mead 1986 to 2022.
Great video. Truth be told I have owned 25 vessels. All need to be updated per AYBC. Risers, exhaus manifolds, turbos, intercooler per manufacture cost obscene amount of money to service,/maintain. A low hour diesel in a 10-15 ,year boat is a worry as diesels need to be run. 3k per cylinder for full rebuild. New boats are so overinflated, whatever u pay for vessel, 20% of what u paid per year will be used for maintenance and dockage, not including fuel, insurance. Always get a survey , out of water, in water sea trial, oil analysis will tell u everything.
You do you man, you don't owe anyone any explanations about your personal business on this channel. Explanations will not change their attitudes anyway, they are always going to hate. I would love a boat, but having no experience my fears are getting screwed on a bad buy that needs too much work, and the upkeep or repairs. Basically I just don't want to loose my butt.
Fear sucks it kills your dreams which kills your spirit for life. Don’t be afraid watch guys like this guy get serious take notes and follow there advice double check everything before you purchase. Then keep educating yourself to minimize risk, you only live once. Good luck friend
I think when diesel fuel went up to 8 bucks a gallon folks flipped out and had to re adjust budgets and maybe sell their fuel guzzlers, or don't leave the dock as much
I sold my 42 foot yacht in two weeks and had fifteen people come look at it in those two weeks. People want to buy boats. All types of boats. If no one wants to buy yours, you are asking too much money. You can be waiting a long time for that fool to come along who will overpay for a boat.
Ok, I'm going to change the subject because it is so hard to find facts from the trawler community. Sailors are by far the better seamen, as the Internet is full of factual info about sailing, but nothing about trawlers. The first thing I want to know is why don't trawler folks anchor out? Is it because of windage? I've seen people put a total canvass surround around the flybridge, and while that might be ok for marina life, it won't work on the hook. And why don't trawler people use the best anchors? If you search SV Panope on you tube you will find a guy who is using instrument to measure pull and testing every anchor on the market. His results will either shock or anger you, depending on how you look at life. Those are only some of my questions, but could get you started on a subject most trawler folks ignore.
high interest rates that is why!!!!!!! i started looking at boats back in may and most of the boats i saw then are still for sale now. even at high covid prices they were still affordable with 3% rates, so regardless what people paid it wasw still a good deal till the rates doubled!!!!
You said that brokers “let” it happen. Selling brokers are paid to sell a boat at the best price they can get. As for “loop ready” I would expect similar though perhaps more. In addition I am expecting safety equipment, dishes, etc. I would expect that I can load supplies and leave.
Hey Paul-I saw that Mainship 390 on Facebook for sale you mentioned. It is exactly what I am looking for to do the loop-unfortunately, I am a year away from going. As you said the Yanmar engine had 4,400 hours on it but owner said it had been rebuilt a couple years ago and has 1400 hours on rebuild. What is your thoughts on engine reliability with rebuild?
The other problem we are having in Florida is the dock space unless you live on the water. My fishing buddy has been looking for a 35 Luhrs which he has found several he wanted to pull the trigger on but cannot find rental space to dock the boat. Its going to take some time to clear out a lot of covid boaters to make space for the guys that have been boating for years or their whole life. With the Power boats like the center consoles prices are dropping Manufacturers are cutting prices on the 2023 new inventory that is still sitting on dealer lots meanwhile the 2025 models were just released June 1st. I know dealers that have been refusing shipments and one of the Dealers where I use to sell boats they cut their order by 40% for this year. Definitely seeing prices drop but sellers are reluctant because they saw the boat was worth x amount of dollars or over paid for the vessel and now they are stuck not wanting to take a hit.
No need to address the negative comment regarding you being entitled. Whoever made that comment is not in a good place and looking to deflect from their darkness. The reality is you’re where you are today because of your hard work and lifetime sacrifices. I know your resume would 100% blow that negative commenters “out of the water”, no pun intended! Keep up the great work, and remember you’re where you are today because the above holds true. Great job on the videos and thank you for sharing them!
Yes I agree a lot of diesel engine owners whether a vehicle, boat or RV do not keep up with frequent maintenance and especially fuel additives and frequent oil changes. Few ever send their oil to a lab for analysis of wear and condition. Soot kills diesel engines. Just follow Lake Speed Jr. the engine oil geek guy. He is all about the data. Frequent maintenance and oil changes. Especially in a diesel engine.
So loop ready is a big thing hello the loop is 6000 miles. I’m seeing so many over priced boats. I’m not buying 150k project boat. Saw an add that said there was a paint facility close the boat was 200k NoWay!!! Ok sorry but you can’t get top dollar on old boats. First if I got 200k I can get little more and get something less then 20yrs. Lots of first timers got ripped off now they want to rip someone else off. To me I’m not working on a boat I pay 100k for I work on a 30k boat. Tons of people want to keep their boat not sell to me because I’m not buying a problem to throw money at… A engine rebuild is a deal breaker for me unless the boat is free.
Who cares if you're living off the fat of the land. I hope you soon will live like that. I want everyone to do great except for people that lie, cheat and steal. You talking about buying a house. a guy I knew always went looking at houses in countries he visited often. He happen to be talking to the local real estate agent that asked or you ready to buy? My buddy, went there is no way I can afford this house. The agent looked at him and said, "Any other day you could not afford this house, but the owner just lost two of his major business contract and one of his two houses has to go are he will lose both of them. The guy got one of the most beautiful home I have seen in my life for probably 40 cents on the dollar from happening to be in the right place, the right time and just looking at houses which was his dream. Good vlog as always.
First of all, condition is everything on an old boat. People that bought boats during the pandemic couldn't afford the boat in the first place let alone keep up with the maintenance, hence why they are selling it now. These same people didn't/don't understand they were buying a depreciating asset. Deferred maintenance is the worst thing you can do to a boat. So now that times are tough "they" can't understand why they have to take a loss. Then because they knew nothing about boats they don't see all the defered maintenance that HAS to be done. Then the worst mindset is.....wait for it. "A new boat costs $400k, my boat is the same.....so it's worth $300k at least". FACE PALM!!!!
I don't like the charity idea. Just tell the owner to short sell the boat for say $50k. THEN donate $25k to charity, and pocket $25k. It's a good deal for the buyer, the seller and the charity. Done.....more to come.
Your comments are all over the place. Very opinionated with little empirical backup. The widow with the Tollycraft - the charity can dump it for $30k after you advise her to donate it? What will her tax savings be? I don't think it would be $30K. Why wouldn't you advise her to sell it for $30-$40K herself instead of the $150k her broker was looking for?
I didn’t give her any advice, but I believe she could get over 100k tax right off if she needed one. ☝️ thanks for watching, some boats just need to go to the chipper 😂
Thank you for your opinions on the current boat market. From my observations of being a “buyer” for a year, your comments are right on track. Keep them coming👍🏼

Glad you are taking time for a day of worship. There is more to life than work.
Yes indeed

When you looped did you see many gas powered loop boats. We put 100hrs a year on, so gas works but we are planning on looping in a few years.
Yes absolutely, you see everything out there. Lot of outboards but we also ran into a couple of Gas powered Searays has well. 😉
I think when diesel fuel went up to 8 bucks a gallon folks flipped out and had to re adjust budgets and maybe sell their fuel guzzlers, or don't leave the dock as much
Yes I would agree with that statement

I agree 100% the only 2 reasons for a boat not selling price and condition
I agree with this also. Saved me having to add my comment.

Going to church has everything to do with buying/owning a boat! The comments about the inline vs. V engines is great!
high interest rates that is why!!!!!!! i started looking at boats back in may and most of the boats i saw then are still for sale now. even at high covid prices they were still affordable with 3% rates, so regardless what people paid it wasw still a good deal till the rates doubled!!!!
No regrets on the nails dude….awesome look
I have been doing them for years but I lost a bet and had them done in white😉. Thanks 🙏 appreciate the support

As for “loop ready” I would expect similar though perhaps more. In addition I am expecting safety equipment, dishes, etc. I would expect that I can load supplies and leave.
I wish that was the case, but more often it not the case at all
Grest info, The cat 3208 is an expensive rebuild, too
Yes nothing cheap about owning them, I like the N/As but the turbos are very expensive to own 🙏 thank you for your support
I'm looking at Island Packets. I'm seeing them coming down in price. Looking as far as Florida to Maine.
Yes the prices are coming down
😂 pandemic buying of homes, RVs, boats was astonishing inflation prices. You are correct “people were paying stupid” prices. Now underwater in value.

Well that depends, but pulling oil samples will tell the truth

Yes this week we talk about that
Cap'n Paul, haven't stopped by in awhile... is that nail polish you are rocking? That's way cool and good for you!! Love it!!!
Yes it is!
Never apologize to haters
I know right, thank you so much for the support. God bless you have a great day 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
