I'm ANYTHING BUT an "SUV guy", but I drove a previous generation Armada and it was actually pretty nice. It was really comfy and they're pretty friggin capable if you need to haul/tow...if this generation is the same but with updated infotainment (which it DESPERATELY needed...), Nissan should have a hit on their hands! Also, I really wish the new Z had a gauge cluster like this!!
Lets be honest, the Armada is an emotional choice for most. Its big! Its attractive! It provides presence that you don’t fear the cost of. The Armada finds its spoke due to the attitude it can portray as an affordable vehicle
We have a 2012 Pathfinder (last body on frame). We live in a mountain state and tow a 3k lb camper. With 2 kids, 2 dogs, 2 adults, and all gear - towing around the mountains I wish we had an Armada even though we are well within the specs of the Pathfinder Edit: pathfinder has been a great family car otherwise
@@pettersaethre yeah I love diesels, but I need family SUV for my wife and kids. the pathfinder is due to be replaced but she doesn’t want to drive a pickup truck. I ain’t shelling out those big bucks for the new Tahoe duramax
My wife and I appreciated this video! When her 2018 Civic was hit and totaled recently (she was pregnant at the time), it accelerated our plans to get an SUV. Being that I’ve daily-driven a 2007 Tacoma V6 for 14 years, and have learned to do the maintenance (what little there is to do), and the fact that we like reliable, tough, simple vehicles, we decided to buy a 2021 base model 4Runner with a 3rd row seat. Fast forward a few months, our son is 8 months old, and the wife is pregnant again (they’ll be 13 mos apart). We’ve wondered if the 4Runner will be big enough, and something like this or the Sequoia has crossed our minds. Why not a minivan, you ask? We don’t like FWD, for many reasons (not as durable, bad engine access for maintenance, etc). And, my wife just doesn’t like minivans or crossovers (I don’t either). This is appealing over a Sequoia because it’s much cheaper, and looks better to us. Plus, it’s much faster. I doubt these are flying off showroom floors right now, and even in this inflated market, might be able to get into a base 2WD for low to mid 40s. The only thing that might give me pause is that I’ve heard some forum rumors of engine problems on this new generation of GDI Nissan V8s.
I rented one of these in 4wd form last winter. I thought it would be garbage, but I walked away very impressed. It was fast, comfortable, better looking than an Infiniti, and it handled great in the snow. I would buy one if I needed something this large. It's a great value when compared to the competition.
We have a 2018. Great car, very smooth, looks and feels different from the other SUVs on the road. And the Patrol base helps with offroad confidence. Only problem is the transmission is a bit dimwitted but you get used to it
The fact you spun the truck, means the traction control must also be simple. I like it! These also are rare in Maine. Piles of Tahoe’s etc. Fun review! Game Over
I saw a surprising amount of them and the Infiniti counterpart in the southern US and also a few in the Midwest like Wisconsin. Almost never see them in Vermont and northern New England.
It's good to see Nissan is slowly coming out of the dark ages with new models and refreshes again. The day that car culture shifts from "He who has the biggest box on wheels, wins", to people buying practical vehicles that they need will be a great one for me. But as much as I like discussing things that will never happen, I know that mindset is not going anywhere unless every single influential individual decides to step up to try and tackle that issue.
@@dogsandcars202 That could both be described by "cheaply outdated" and "tried and true". You might get blasted for doing either thing, so if it ain't broke... I still haven't finished the video so I don't know if it's a POS like the image I have of current day Nissan lol.
@@dogsandcars202 They had dashboard screens in vehicles 10 years ago? that seems new to me. Either way, they've remade the frontier and z car. Updated this box and probably more that I don't know about. Small steps are better than nothing.
When that day happens sales of all sports/fun cars will definitely go away. A sports car is no where near as practical and useful and typically as cheap as a practical car. In fact I would say this Armada for some people is just what the need. (But way to many folks buy SUVs like this for no reason, but hey, folks buy sports cars when the dont need it as well)
@@baronvonjo1929 in the US. Thanks to Biden, gas is gold now, like the rest of the world, so people will buy cars that aren't gas gulping SUVs that take so much space in cities. I can see a comeback for sedans, hatchbacks and wagons sales in the US.
I absolutely love my 2019 SL Armada. It's a tank, it's capable as hell and the V8 is so smooth and powerful. It's functional and the technology is tried and true. Plus made in Japan
I work in Nissan middle East, this "Armada" is a watered down version of the Patrol sold here in Dubai as a full sized, super luxury SUV. The exterior and interior of the Armada is way watered down version from middle East spec Patrol
This review is golden, the Metal Gear Solid was a nice touch. Solid no bullshit car, not filled with gloss crap, no climate controls in the touchscreen, and decent enough quality interior.
I'd definitely choose this or the QX80 over any of the GM triplets, way too many issues, back lots of the dealers are filled with them all towed in. I work at one it's every day they get towed in. So beware if you buy one, there not as good as they used to be.
Lmfao as if nissan hasnt made junk. Ford has been making cars longer than nissan has existed. And put a 7.3 v8 in a new navigator. It would last just as long and bust its ass :)
@@james10165 Funny, I don’t remember any Nissan Leafs needing to be recalled for battery replacement unlike the Bolt. For the record, I own a Leaf and I’ve worked for a Tier 1 OEM that supplied GM. Guess why I don’t drive any GM vehicles?

Either too things, they’re ramping up for a redesign or wondering if the Armada is worth it. In the past, extensive refreshes on Nissans were stop gap measures to help bridge the identity between new models and those that had to wait.
@@air-headedaviator1805 I think its the fact that there is a redesign happening sooner than later. While this is definitely related to the Titan, it's not exactly the same so it may not be as plug and play as we think.
Yes! Glad you guys liked it. We bought a 19 for the family and I LOVED the engine and its ruggedness but it was simply too crude and had poor highway manors so we traded for something smaller. Jack said “port injected”???
I rented one for an 11 day road trip w my sons and wife. It is powerful, comfortable, responsive handling, brakes, acceleration…a little thirsty but for a big SUV with huge loveseats for captain’s chairs…it’s worth the $52k. The Lexus GX is $62k…yes, it’s a legend and oldie but this is a really nice. Again, driving thousands of miles, my family and I were comfortable and had plenty of room for bags in trunk. Only wish that the steering wheel was meatier, fatter, and the stick too, for a large car like this, with a large interior, they seem cheap. Also, get rid of faux wood paneling in the SL, it is 2023…see minor complaints really.
Love my Armada! Best bang for your buck and with a 4x4 there are very few places I can’t drive through. Interior space is more than enough for a family including Dogs. The infotainment system works great and with Apple/Android play you honestly need nothing else. I can see view my work calendar for the day as I’m dropping the kids off for school and if I need to take a meeting from the car, no problem!
Look I just put 4,000 miles in my 2021 Armada SL Got 18.6 mpg on the highway! Its my 3rd Armada and I love it DO NOT compare this with other full size SUVs! Forget the Land Rover ( twice the money and less reliable) Mine was $60k for a 4x4 with no Moon Roof and no Displays on the back of the seats It was hard to find an 8 passenger vehicle I think the 7 passenger is idiotic I am keeping my 2010 Armada 4x4 Platinum with 140,000 miles! The 2021 lost a few nice features compared to previous generation but it is still the BEST SUV on the market all things considered Cheers
I looked at one of these for about 5 mins. I’m intrigued by the old school ness. You can mod these too. There are companies that make long tube headers, tune, and catback. Supposedly with long tubes, tune, and exhaust it’s like +40whp. The factory exhaust is really restrictive.
This has been out since 2010 globally, and is the third update. Much better effort than the Toyota Sequoia. These sell like hot cakes in the Middle East. In the market I'm in it's got the highest resale value of any used car.
@@Indiaking123-e9l I have a 2006 Armada .. still doing well. I will fix until it's unreasonable and get another. A vehicle like this {nice - comfortable -work horse} that is "fixable" and lasts a good while is more important.

Ah, a nice concise detailled car review with the absurdities that give this channel its loveable character - like Mark standing on a box, having a bag of candy or something placed over the speedo, doing an involuntary donut in a 2+ ton truck, ... :)
One thing of important note on the seats. They may not have fancy leather or cloth, but since they are actually perforated, they won't burn you and stay hot like most modern seats will.
The recently divorced old guy at the bar with his best friend the Land Cruiser, doing shots and trying to get up the courage to go talk to the cute crossovers at the corner table.

I keep telling people the VK56 is going to be a future hot rodding engine for Japanese car engine swaps. These things end up in junkyards cheap as chips and have a beastly engine to snatch up. Really surprised this review ended up so positive. Kinda cool.

Last time I checked, aluminum corrodes unless protective coatings are used..just like steel..in many cases, worse than steel..Aircraft runways are NEVER salted etc. for that reason. The under body coverings are not proven to reduce corrosion and in fact may trap corrosive substances above them and not allow flushing that occurs in a car wash or a heavy rain.
This SUV sells like corolla in the middle east, this and the land cruiser are the off road kings over there and is also famous in Australia and Africa, I guess over there people prefer the basics than all the gimicky SUVs available in North America.
Perfect complement truck to any S2000 owners. Both are archaic, both can put a huge smile on your face, and both can be game over with over aggressive throttle inputs.
The Nissan Armada is basically the age old, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". I work for a rental company so rarely a day goes by where I don't do at least an oil change on an Armada and I have to say, it's consistent if anything. I do think the price tag is a bit high for what you're getting but you can't really go wrong with a J-VIN Nissan. Also, that was some seriously infectious laughter during the spin-out bit, thanks for that (Snake?? Snaaaaaaaaaake!)
Yep old, but vvel is pretty advanced! And a bit more reliable than BMW double vanos. I think these things are direct injected too, although that is not exactly a plus. Love the honesty and unbiased nature of the videos.
I got one of these in the 4WD version as a rental from Enterprise a couple weeks ago and other than the back seat that smelled like dog puke (with only 10k miles on it mind you) I couldn't find anything I hated about it (well, and also the seats, I wasn't a fan either). Powertrain is great, AC was great, handling was very good for a large truck. It was composed enough flooring it from a dead stop in a turn with the 4WD. Gas mileage was obviously bad, but not as bad as I expected, about 17-18 highway. LOVE the sound of that V8.
Rented a brand new one for a week and I immediately noticed the truck's suspension gets upset after hitting bumps on the highway. Aside from that, nice truck.
I was not expecting 7:32 😂😂 Glad you guys could have fun in a car like this! Great review as always :) I'm fairly impressed with the Armada redesign - I've seen a lot of these at airport car rentals now, and am looking forward to renting one myself soon!
Parents got the older gen Infinity QX80 which is almost the exact same thing but with a Infiniti badge slapped on. At around 100000km had to change the transmission and then the engine....
Drove an Armada for like 2 weeks a few months ago. It's a weird transition. But I liked it. Big enough to be a hotel room on the fly, but all around not too bad. It also handles like the boat you think it is.
No comment on the video. I just have to say I love your branding. "SavageGeese" is a great name and the logo is outstanding. Did you guys come up with that or did you hire someone?
Surprised how decent it is. The powertrain should actually be fairly good, as the main issues with Nissan automatics all lie in the CVT realm. The 5 and 7 speeds of the past were always decent. Nissan also typically makes a good naturally aspirated engine. (Looking at you VQ) Thanks for sharing.
Spent last week in a SL trim. Pleasant in an old school kinda way. Seat backs were fine, but seat bottoms a bit short as mentioned and lacking in side bolstering, felt like I was gonna fall off the seat around every corner. By day 4 the engine light came on, so have to question the “tried and true and you know it’s going to work” comments. Think Nissan still struggles with QC at times.

With 2 kids, 2 dogs, 2 adults, and all gear - towing around the mountains I wish we had an Armada even though we are well within the specs of the Pathfinder
Edit: pathfinder has been a great family car otherwise

The Metal Gear Solid bit was beautiful!
I rented one of these in 4wd form last winter. I thought it would be garbage, but I walked away very impressed. It was fast, comfortable, better looking than an Infiniti, and it handled great in the snow. I would buy one if I needed something this large. It's a great value when compared to the competition.
Love the detached garage shirt next to the obsessed garage shirt, lol.
Fun review!

I saw a surprising amount of them and the Infiniti counterpart in the southern US and also a few in the Midwest like Wisconsin. Almost never see them in Vermont and northern New England.
Im sure Mark had it in sport ++ mode.
This actually proves that they are still in the dark ages this platform is over 10 years old and there’s no new technology in it.

"you're pretty good, huh?"

This reminds me of my 04 Expedition and for that it would be at the top of my list if I were in the market to purchase a vehicle like this. Nothing beats the early to mid 2000’s V8 large SUVs for reliability and dependability.
Never seen a game over screen on a car video, love it.
Nissan has a much superior 9-speed automatic transmission which they put in the titan. But they don't put it in that. Not even the infiniti version.
Kind of surprised considering the updates to the titan, pathfinder, and frontier i believe.
With the way the interiors of cars are designed currently, this has already aged.
7:31 I’ve watched it 10 times, that was gold gents
The fucking laugh you guys had that the drive bit and the Metal Gear game over was hilarious LMFAO. Made my day
Waiting for some soon to retire Nissan executive to add a Sasquatch Raptor competitor trim lev, but call it the Carlos Ghosn Escape Edition.

Because it is 10yr old
Good lol.
That’s because this vehicle has been around since 2010…
Is that a bad thing?
Jack’s opening monologue with the nature sounds in the background stood out to me, not sure why. I like it.
The spin out made me cackle. The screams hahaha

DO NOT compare this with other full size SUVs! Forget the Land Rover ( twice the money and less reliable) Mine was $60k for a 4x4 with no Moon Roof and no Displays on the back of the seats
It was hard to find an 8 passenger vehicle I think the 7 passenger is idiotic
I am keeping my 2010 Armada 4x4 Platinum with 140,000 miles!
The boys at Applebee's are gonna flip when I tell them it only took a credit score of 600 to lock this in!!!!

One thing of important note on the seats. They may not have fancy leather or cloth, but since they are actually perforated, they won't burn you and stay hot like most modern seats will.

The level of tomfoolery in this video is simply amazing
The Nissan Armada is basically the age old, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". I work for a rental company so rarely a day goes by where I don't do at least an oil change on an Armada and I have to say, it's consistent if anything. I do think the price tag is a bit high for what you're getting but you can't really go wrong with a J-VIN Nissan.
Also, that was some seriously infectious laughter during the spin-out bit, thanks for that (Snake?? Snaaaaaaaaaake!)

Powertrain is great, AC was great, handling was very good for a large truck. It was composed enough flooring it from a dead stop in a turn with the 4WD. Gas mileage was obviously bad, but not as bad as I expected, about 17-18 highway. LOVE the sound of that V8.

Parents got the older gen Infinity QX80 which is almost the exact same thing but with a Infiniti badge slapped on. At around 100000km had to change the transmission and then the engine....
Unlucky.
*CORRECTION* 2017-current Armadas are built of the global Nissan Patrol platform. The pre-2017 Armadas were built of the Titan platform. FYI
Do the 2wd Armadas only get the old 7 speed and not the new Mercedes 9 speed? The AWD version has the 9 speed.
2:31 why does the leather look like that? Is it intentional or just bad QC?
It's intentional. Every Armada has it like that
I looked at this before I bought a ‘21 Land Cruiser Heritage. It was a nice driving vehicle.

No comment on the video. I just have to say I love your branding. "SavageGeese" is a great name and the logo is outstanding. Did you guys come up with that or did you hire someone?
I like the old school mechanics of it.... but STARTING at $68,500 CAD oof.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with the Armada. A good vehicle.
@7:32 is the type of comedy that keeps the world spinning
