The reason why the Land Cruiser flexes so well is something called Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System. Essentially, the front and rear sway bar mounts are connected together hydraulically and it's all passive. When the vehicle leans to one side, ie turning, the hydraulics lock each other into place. When you crawl over an obstacle you have diagonal loading which allows the mounts to move and prevent the sway bar from being effective. All passive and automatic. No buttons. Pretty awesome sway bar disconnect system.

All 3 are iconic, but the Defender is leaning toward setting a new record for being iconicly unreliable. I have a good friend, who has had numerous of the previous Defenders and he is a die hard for these things. They are either in the shop being fixed or something is warning them that something needs to be fixed. Never is it cheap to fix to top it off. It got so costly at one point, that he had to sell his last one at a loss to get a little run around to continue with normal life. Now that he has paid off the previous dept, he is busy saving up so that he can get another. I think this just teaches us a very good lesson: "You cannot tell someone what they must like and not like, they have to experience it for themselves." Unfortunately, some people just bump their heads over and over expecting the result to be different the next time. I have never had this type of experience, because I see these issues in the reviews and the research. I find it strange that so many people fall for the JLR products. They cost so much and in my eyes seem to return very little.

We recently picked up a used 2021 Armada. Hell of a deal. It's most extreme use is going to be towing the RV across the country and then doing some mild/moderate off-roading. If it's only as capable as, say, an Outback Wilderness, that'll be more than enough for the overlanding trails we want to do (e.g. getting to cool places, great scenery in the back country -- but no climbing over complicated obstacles just for the challenge of it). I'm going to put some AT tires and skid plates on it (probably even with the 20" wheels rather than going to 18s) and call it good. We've only had ours a couple of months, but are impressed. It's a luxurious, comfortable highway cruiser, tows the trailer easily (the integrated brake controller, auto-leveling rear suspension, and sway control are great). I'm not sure why people are so worried about the size off road. Yeah, it's big, sure, but not as big as an F150. It's not even as long as a Ranger -- both of which you see off road all the time.

Blaze needs a big dog bed with sticky grip on the bottom so he doesn't slide around. He would be much less nervous.
He fine, he a good doggy.
thats a great idea... keep the dog hair down to a minimum too
This might be their first dog ... and not realize that there is safety equipment for dogs so they don't get injured in a crash or tossed while 4wd-ing

I’m here for the Land Cruiser ❤️
My mother has an order in on the bronco and was strongly considering dropping it for the new defender, you guys convinced her otherwise!
Tell her a Land cruiser!!!
Bronco and defender will be on the recall list for life..
Land cruiser sir.
Tell her to get a 2nd gen Forester
I really like the idea of the defender but it always seems to be not up to the task
Yeah, i absolutely love the interior, but there's no way in hell i'd buy one new, or if my overland travels depended on it. Maybe for a toy if i had the proper diagnostic and module programmer tool, but even then my 01 tundra has never let me down, so i'd be hard pressed to not take the easy route, get a yota and minimize wrenching and worries.
My wife and I really want to buy a defender, love the idea of all of off road tech and the style of the vehicle, but after watching your videos and reading the comments from others who have owned them, we have taken it off our list of possible options.
I think that's a wise decision. Don't understand me wrong: I am a Landrover guy owned 8 vehicles. But switched to 2002 Lexus LX470 which is more reliable then a brand new Landrover Defender
The smartest choice.
Toyota landcruiser , sequoia #1
Nissan Armada 4wd platinum #2 choice .
I own a 2015 Armada platinum. It's amazing. But I would trade it for a landcruiser or sequoia if the money was right . I see those land rovers , defenders and can't help but laugh and cry for such bad buyers choices. If you can afford it , go landcruiser and know you made one of the smartest choices when you are in a parking lot next to other overly fancy yard ornaments .
Sad but True. I have this problem too.
I bought one and has never given me problems. Almost 65,000 miles and it’s been great.
Thank you for saving me thousands from buying the defender. So sad as it’s great on paper and the lot but it lives up to every stereotype of Land Rover.
You know which Defender would have been reliable? The one that got it's wiring harness cut before they could deliver it to you.
Most likely not, just shows the people at jlr who engineer the vehicles are idiots, and the people who service them are idiots as well.
Every time I think about trying another brand, videos like this remind me why I chose Landcruiser.
How am I more frustrated with the defender than the TFL boys!?!? Almost smashed my phone out of anger, then I remembered I own a Tacoma.
It Will out last that defender
Hear, hear! I’m thinking the same as I stare at my GX460
Same, I love my Tundra.
That Armada is awesome! I’d take that suv in a heartbeat.
Agree, i just wish it had more of the off road options that the australian version does like rear locking diff.
@@DJ-nh5lh that's where the QX80 comes in
@@TinoMiller the QX80 doesn’t have a locking rear diff either. The only difference in mechanicals is the hydraulic sway control system the the QX has.
Give that land rover back, it’s not fun getting warning lights on light off-roading trails, way too stressful!! Land Cruiser for the win!
The Fast Lane is the single handed reason why I won’t even entertain the thought of looking at a Land Rover Defender.
LR must cringe at every new video posted making them lose sales. Even Doug demuro referenced them.
The old defender that they had was way more reliable, it was actually a good vehicle. Hopefully landrover can work out the bugs in this thing in the next couple years, or it wont look good for sales on this one.
The one they had on TFL.
@@kdrguru which video did he reference them in? I heard he was doing a cross country trip in his defender. He's definitely more confident in that car than I would be...
@@kdrguru it really didn’t have issues, it’s just the sensor. Who cares, nothing is actually wrong with it. Damn liar, Doug didn’t say nothing.
I’d take that land cruiser anyday. It will never break.
They break down every day. Obviously you don't work in the auto industry, and especially not at a Toyota dealer or repair facility.
@@wildman1137 Found the Land Rover fanboy who can't accept the bitter truth🤣
@@thareqinsans
Never said land rover was better you clown. They're worse in terms of electrical issues.
Toyota copy/paste pile of crap🤪
@@wildman1137 Not just worse in electrical issues, but worse in almost all aspects🤣the only thing that is better from Land Rover is the design, style, exterior, interior, interior material quality, & tech. But Land Cruiser & Lexus LX definitely have better engineering, more capable offroad, more durable & reliable, definitely stronger & tougher.
So, it's fine if you only take your Land Rover to Walmart & Costco.🤣 But if you take it offroad, better choose Land Cruiser & Lexus LX if you wanna make it back home🤣
And I can tell that you're a Land Rover Fanboy & Toyota Land Cruiser/Lexus LX hater from all of your bullshit comments hating on them🤣No need to make excuse, you're already busted.
Still enjoying the Armada? Any issues or regrets?
@@exordis We are enjoying it. No regrets (and no repairs needed) so far, but we don't put a lot of miles on it. We'll be doing our next long escape-from-winter RV trip in March (4-5000 miles), and that's when it'll really get put to the test in terms of towing and off-roading. It's a bit hulking in parking lots, of course, but the 360 surround camera is pretty handy in tight spots.. Fuel economy has been maybe a bit better than expected (~20 mpg on the highway). The interior is really nice, the seats are comfortable, the sound system is excellent. So yeah, we would choose it again (and maybe it'd be even a bit cheaper than it was 6 months ago).
@@markweaver1012 I appreciate the response. I've been researching the full size SUV market for the wife. We dropped in size from a 2013 Expedition to a Grand Cherokee a few years back. Had the Expedition since new. She loved it, thought we wanted something smaller, but she misses the body on frame, size, interior room, etc.
The 2013 Expedition had great rear leg room. Your legs were actually level, and not angled up. Looking for something with similar foot well and leg room, and possibly sliding middle seats. Seems the Armada doesn't have those.
Have a safe trip in March.
@@exordis The Armada rear seats don't slide, but 2nd row leg room is not a problem. If you routinely want to put adults in the 3rd row, though, this is probably not the right vehicle.
I loved taking my LX470 (UZJ100) offroading...steel bumpers, 3 " lift, rock sliders, Nitto Trail Grapplers...and she went through sand, gravel, mud, snow and crawled over rocks and did every trail at Uwharrie Offroad area in North Carolina. Loved it. Liked my old 84 FJ60 better for pure offroading and vintage appeal but the LX was so comfortable. LOL Have also had FJ Cruiser and took it on all the trails around Ouray, CO (Engineer, Black Bear, Imogene, etc)...also good when configured properly.
All I can think of when I see a Land Rover is “will it break?” “Is it breaking?” “Is it broken?”
Whenever I read an article bemoaning the slow death of the British automotive industry... may I present this as Exhibit A?
It’s not will it break? but when.
Think the Freelander 2 is one of the only reliable ISH land rovers to come out of land rover.
Sad about British cars. JLR really isn't actually British. As a " off road " vehicle. JLR should have engineered a better coolant sensors.
I hear you - whenever I see one of the new Defenders around here I immediately think TFL. Basically every Landrover I see is an advertisement for this youtube channel:)s
@@stevejones5999 I had a LR3 ( FORD ) I thick those were reliable. It was very comfortable...and good off road! I sorry ford sold it off.... especially to TATA.
The landcruiser is the most soled car in Australia for the last 60yrs
They call it king of the road for a reason quality
Really enjoyed this video fellas. Toyota hands down

I'm with you roman, I'm a 200 series land cruiser owner but I'm rooting for the defender sooo much because that car is incredible on paper...just wish it performed as stated..
That's pretty funny an incredible car on paper! 😄
I bought a new defender, I had a coolant level fault on my first road trip, dealership said it was typical of new lines on new defenders, it cleared out and never came back, over 4K miles. Only issues now, are with infotainment failing with Car Play, have to hard reset every once in awhile. JLR says that the downloads will self correct but never has. Everything else is working, knock on wood! Lol!
Oof
Same here. No coolant level faults but did have Pivi Pro issues with Android Auto. That seemed to get resolved a couple OTA updates ago. I'm at about 2,500 miles and fingers crossed it keeps up the solid performance through an upcoming cross country trip.
Hey dad a check light went on on the land cruiser , it says check Land Rover in front of you for leaks!!
Hahaha
Any man that is this kind to a dog is a real man. You have a nice son. Good job dad.
I love Land Rovers I work for a tow company , we make a lot of money towing them
There is a reason JLR products fill all the bottom places in the JD Power reliability survey - I'm British and wouldn't touch one with a very long barge pole.
LR Limpfender is a beauty! ..and that's about it!
