You are a brave lady taking on such a detailed project so close to your vacation. I've never made a blazer before, but I have made a coat for myself and a Vintage Car Coat for my husband. I thought I was going to go crazy at times, and these didn't include the whole built out shoulder areas. Blazers intimidate me!

😂 They really aren't too bad. They are a lot of prep, but not too bad once you get started!

How exciting! I love that your son knows what he wants, it reminds me of fabric shopping with my mom and sitting by her while she would sew it up.

He definitely knows what he wants, which can be a bit annoying at times 😂.

Well this is perfect timing… I’m working on my latest blazer and love this! It feels a bit like a friend is sewing along with me.

What a ton of work you're doing. I love that your son wants a purple jacket. How cool is that. Great video. Having made jackets for my nephew and husband, it really is a labor of love. Pad stitching, ugh. Did not know you could buy the interfacing ready made so thank you for that tip.

We'll see how it works. I think it's going to make it go a bit faster, but we'll see!

I am making my 2 young grandsons, 6 and 3 years old, denim blazers and pants and using a Burda pattern which gives you zero instructions. I have found some of your previous tutorials so helpful. Thanks for sharing your knowledge! Can’t wait to see part 2! Don’t worry that it is a lot of work, it will be great! Your son will always remember that you made this blazer for him!

About 40 years ago I sewed Burda jackets and pants out of brushed denim for my son and his future cousin for his aunt’s wedding. Before multiple washings the brushed denim looked very dressy and the two little 6 year old boys looked adorable in their black double breasted suits.

Can't wait to see this blazer when it's finished. The fabric you chose is lovely.

Thanks for sharing, didn’t know there were premade jacket fronts, I would love down the road, these young men are making interesting choices. Grandson went to Junior Prom last Saturday, chose a white jacket with black trim, much as you described the piping you’ll be adding. Grandson is 17. Love what I’m seeing with all these choices, our futures are well in hand, I’m seeing. (Deb)

BTW, I bought the Jasica class. I am waiting for fall to make another blazer. Thank you for recommending the class. Also, have sew much fun in Italy. I used to fly there with TWA, and it was my fave place to go!!!

I hope one day to be sewing a nice blazer. I’m getting a new brother sewing machine this Sunday hopefully and just can’t wait. It’s not as fancy as the one you are using but is a bit of a upgrade from last one. My old machine would have cost $250.00 to fix and brand new brother was $259.00. I’ve been doing a lot of house cleaning & organizing and pretty sick of it. If this machine comes next week is going to be a sewcation week

My oldest graduated from HS 32 years ago. For prom I made him a white tux jacket that he wore with a purple shirt...time sure flies!

I hope your son wears the blazer longer than the time it takes you to plan, order, cut and sew it.😮

The tie you're going to cut for binding would have been good for the wedding and the rest of his outfit.

It would have been, but it did have some staining on it and I had to wash it. I had to remove the interfacing to do the washing.

Do you mean you are flat lining the silk and darker cotton, then bag lining with the lighter cotton?

    • @TomKatStitchery
      @TomKatStitchery  Рік тому +1

I am flat lining (interlining) the silk with the darker cotton and the lining with the lighter colored acetate lining.

My husband has requested a knit blazer (like the Milano Cotton Sweater Blazer at Banana Republic). Any ideas where to find a men's knit blazer pattern? I've looked and haven't come up with anything so far.

I don't know of anything off the top of my head, but that is an amazing blazer! You might want to check vintage patterns - maybe something from the 70s that could be modernized?

It gets a little tricky with all the interfacings that are put into them (like the horsehair and the dumet). I'm sure there are ways to launder them at home, but I'm just not sure what they are.

Just one small step at a time. I even built a 2300 square foot house with no experience just going one step at a time.
