      I don't know if you've ever talked about designing a collection for undergarments or specific fabrics used (because this can affect the shape and dynamic of top layers), but I'm interested in experimenting by making these as well. If you have or would rather not, I'm curious how to acquire resources for a small batch (I want enough material/notions for multiples of one type of garment, but not so much to produce for a client base) that does not require bulk ordering. Mainstream hobby shops carry a ton of synthetics or blends, and I want to find better quality materials in natural fibers better for my skin. Another question I have is how to request samples and how that process works.
      Thank for this video! I am just getting into sewing and designing clothes for myself (self-taught), so understanding linings was really helpful. There were some purposes for linings that I didn't know. Excellent breadth of information!

    Thank you for explaining this. Some clothes often came with linings at one time. I miss how easy it was to slip on a lined jacket or skirt. The lined garments hung better, didn’t cling or get caught up in awkward ways and were just easier to wear than adding a slip to a garment. I’m coming back to sewing after many years, now I feel better about learning to add linings.

    hey zoe! i just wanted to say that i'm currently a 17 year old getting my GED after dropping out of school. i'm doing it so i can go to college and get my associate's in fashion design and your videos helped me solidify that decision. i've seriously never found such a comprehensive resource on anything, ever, and as there's a LOT to learn about design and the industry, i can't thank you enough for putting it all together and leaving it free for people like me, who can't really afford a ton of individual courses and books. awesome videos, please keep it up!!

    I am a lining freak and often add it to clothes that I'm sewing when the pattern lacks a lining. Dresses, skirts, trousers and vests. Living in a small town, I'm dependent upon what is available at Joanns or I order off of the net. Silk, batiste, or rayon is what I use. It's really hard to find rayon linings. Right now I'm using a heavy rayon satin to line a tropical weight wool coat. It's a good choice as I put them together. Silk or rayon Charmuse is my favorite choice for lining skirts, trousers or blazers or jackets.
    A lined garment is a sign of better quality 8n my opinion.

      @Aster Sylvestris The issue with online stores is the lack of tactile feel that one gets from shopping from a brick and mortar store. Often what is online doesn't match the description.

    • @bohemiansusan2897
      @bohemiansusan2897 3 роки тому +1

      @Aster Sylvestris I've run into mislabled and outright scam fabric. The supposed silk or rayon doesn't pass the burn test. Over time I can tell by just the feel what it is.

    I love your lots of words about linings! I am a home sewer, but I really wanted to understand better how to choose linings that work well for the costumes and clothes I am making, especially in light of what I am learning about breathability and natural fabrics in relationship to the need for things to be slippery for walking in a skirt. It's so awful to wear a beautiful long skirt that bunches all over one's legs once you try to move around!

    I despise polyester lining. Before I knew anything about fabric or sewing, I’d cut lining out, bc it felt so scratchy and gross to me, and I had no idea why it was there. Then I finally learned that silk lining is a thing. World of difference!
