E-FLITE EXTRA 300 - Newbie dad flies his first 3D capable RC plane!

Hey guys! Welcome back to Jon's RC! Today, Jon and I both got to fly the E-flite Extra 300! Obviously, Jon is the intermediate level pilot and so he was able to fly it much better than me. I am a newbie and it is wonderful that the Extra 300 can accommodate a beginner RC pilot such as myself. This is the absolute first time I am flying the Extra 300. I have practiced on Real Flight 9.5 using the Extra 300. While the feel may be similar, the crash-risk factor is definitely different! I had a tough landing as you can see on the video. Jon as usual flies this beautiful aerobatic plane with ease. He is actually training for and practicing for an upcoming Pattern Flying Contest in our field! He found that the Extra 300 makes for a great pattern flying plane. We both used the Spektrum 3S 3200 mAh LiPo which is perfect if you are a beginner or practicing pattern or 3D flying. There is enough power to do whatever you want just a bit less speed than the 4S.

I just got my first TRUE 3D aircraft. I started with Balsa wood airplanes. This will be my first Larger foam. I now have a little more confidence in learning the Art of 3D

Great big fun plane. Jon is getting taller. I can't even do a knife edge on my simulator. Your Dad is doing great. He has a good teacher. I got stuck in safe for a year. It was very hard to get out of.

I always pull the nose up slightly just before rolling to knife edge, or any other rolling maneuver, for that matter.
Just a momentary bit of back pressure....

Great job guys, both of you. Eric, you should consider adding some of your heli flights to the channel. (I saw your review of the NX8 on RCGroups where you say that you are also a heli guy.)

Great video, dad did awesome. I for a question. I have real flight evolution. You mentioned in your video you went into editing and changed aileron deflection for expo. How and what did you set it as? I'm. Using interlink dx controller. Thanks for info

Hey, Dad! Take it up to altitude and check out its low speed and stall characteristics.
Get a sense of how slow it will fly (and land) safely.
And get off SAFE ASAP!

Hey Jon ! What are your flight times with the 3S and the style your flying in the Video? :)
On a 3s 3200 mAh LiPo, we had the timer set to 5 minutes. We started landing procedures on the 4th minute. This is a sport/pattern flying style.
