I'm not understanding everyone's complaining about the cost and foam..I realize everyone has different opinions and likes and I surely respect that, but i think eflite has been knocking the quick build planes outa the park but again different folks different opinions
Nice bird. You guys don’t need to defend the addition of SAFE all the time. It a fantastic piece of technology. If it wasn’t for SAFE my 6yro would not be flying with the success he has had. Add it to every plane you guys sell & develope a SAFE receiver that can go in any plane 👍🏻👍🏻🙃🙃
In some of the newer videos, they have touted the virtues of the "oddball scenario" where it is nice to have, even as an experienced pilot. It definitely isn't something anyone should scoff at, unless they feel it is adding cost, but honestly the people who are complaining about E-Flite new technology, are probably interested in gas planes, etc, and just want to feel like they are "more hardcore" by not needing that stuff.
The fact that this will work with my DXe, and let me hold off on that DX8 I've been wanting, but can't quite justify yet, is pretty cool.
Thanks for the video. I know why you do, but I agree with the previous comment, you do not have to justify SAFE. While I am learning, SAFE makes me want to fly more because of less worry. I can bring a plane up high, turn off SAFE, try some maneuvers, and flip it back into SAFE when needed. It encourages learning and taking some chances without apprehension.
I plan to buy the Extra 300 not because I am a 3D pilot or even a very good sport pilot, but because it is a cool looking scaler, that is built well, and looks like it would be fun to fly.
SAFE can't be turned off completely, it just doesn't self-leveled. It's like the Airbus Fly by Wire system. When it seems turned off, it still engaged to reduce disturbances with respect to the angular velocity. So it would make you feel confident even in strong windy conditions. However, you wouldn't go back to the traditional direct control receivers after you getting used of it. So technically it eases the control of the airplane but as a pilot, you should always be able to operate the flight safely without it.

Why knock something until you try it out. For those who do not know these foam planes fly great, they can take abuse much better than any built up plane. The foam can take a hard landing without damage. I have seen flying buddies put the planes in upside down on a landing , pick them up and continue to fly them. Who cares if it rebranded. Did you ever test which prop works the best for 3S batteries, and is there an alternative plastic prop for a 4S battery.
what should i set the servo arm holes to for aileron, rudder and elevator? how do I center the servo
I was considering it as my overall 1st plane. I've flown for quite alot on the real fight 9 and this quickly became my fav model. Is it rl bad idea to get something like that? (i have many years of expirience in rc cars but im green when it comes to planes)

I have the FMS Edge 540 and this has a shocking amount of similar parts, including the famous FMS pilot.

You say up to a 4s 5000mah battery. So my Xmaxx uses 4s 5500mah batteries. Would that work or be to heavy. It is 543g.

So this is basically a shell of the FMS Extra with eflight servos and the eflight brand slapped on the fuselage?
This is a rebranded variant of the old Extra 300 from FMS. I have both , this one is the more refined of the two.
Servos on this one are not as noisy and center better.
For the money this is a nice sport flyer and you can dabble in some basic 3D stuff.
A good flying and great looking model of the world famous full scale Extra 300.

Agreed, This is a good plane most likely if you can fly 3 mistakes high but a profile EPP will allow you to learn and not break as easily. More stable when you screw up and have to recover. It's a good plane to learn Aerobatics on, but get a profile 3D to learn 3D and then do it on this.

Yes! This model only requires a 4-channel transmitter, or 5-channels if using SAFE Select.
price point is getting up and up its just so damn expensive su29 had a way better bang for the buck
Come on people! Its made in China. they use the SAME molds for FMS or they bought the mold. China can sell plane bodys to anyone they want. You dont honestly think every company make the same plane with different molds? Those foam injection molds cost HUNDREDS of thousands of dollars to make. If you think a company can afford to just sit on those molds? No they do not. The RC world is small. They are all made within blocks of each other if not in the SAME building. For a company to make back their money, they sell to others. Anyone can repaint and resticker a plane body. Then that company adds servos and motors and what not. But its the same body as FMS had.
You know I'm curious how many molds per plane they have. And if by chance it is a small number, how long does each plane take. I know you may not know the answer, just saying I'm curious.
@@JoshWeaverRC It varies with each plane. I worked in injection molding. The actual molds are what cost the most. From design to the actual machining are where the costs come in. Not to mention the injecting machine. Companys can but used machines and rebuild them no sweat. Its the molds that run the big dollars. To say that company makes planes for only one company is foolish! Think of it. If Horizon or FMS were to only make x amount of planes then retire that mold, how many planes must they sell to make up the cost. I can guarentee its going to be a LOT more than a few thousand. Add in the cost of partial assembly and packaging the product and I can say, they wouldnt be able to sell enough to break even.
The company will however sell additional planes under contract to a different company, provided that company pays for them. Usually stipulations are added such as using different decals, paint jobs, different fastners, wiring , motors whatever. The fact there are limited mold makers to begin with and limited manufacturers( usually within the same city or even same block) that do manufacture the planes. As far as cost, as I said, that varies. The company I worked for made parts for GM and Ford. The only difference was the plastics we used. Seriously, they were the SAME parts, just different colors. We also sold to an after market company. My guess is they had a contract with the big boys( Pepboys?)
I have the P-47d and the CW cub. Both are cheaper and the same size, the p-47 has retracts and is still cheaper... don’t try to justify gouging us rc flyers! Horizon is great but u are growing out of your britches! Send me a sample to fly and if u change my mind I’ll pay full price for one!

I was about to push the button on this Extra 330 3D , but went to a Club meeting last night and learned that the well kept grass field cut will be changed from 1/2"-3/4" to 1 1/4" or possibly 1 1/2". Although the Q&A vid indicates the plane will handle grass "no problem" , I'd hate to ruin the look of the plane by removing the wheel pants to accommodate the new cut height.
Fair point. It may still be okay, but it never hurts to play it safe. Sounds like you need a Timber X then ;).
@@HorizonHobbyProducts Can you put some dubro light wheels on it, take the wheel pants off for better landings on grass, and what size will work
I put on 2.75 Dave brown wheels and took of the pants. The cut grass from our field was clogging in the pants and the bigger soft wheels work just fine.
THATS NOT A TRAINER PEOPLE. I had a balsa one. It was a really sensitive plane as far as controls. I ended up wrecking mine and had to rebuild it. I wouldnt mind trying a foam one.
Oh yea, I saw that plane in my back yard flying it shot me with a rocket, blew up my porch so I shot it down, it was nuclear powered so we all dyde. The end.

RCWOZDUDE everybody is always complaining about the foam it’s is not just a foam it has carbon fiber support rods safe As3x Landing gear with suspension brushless outruner motor and foam is more durable than the Balsa wood airplanes And many people want to get into 3-D but for the price for this it’s good for people to train on because his durable high powered high-performance and it’s huge

Sorry mate, you’re incorrect. The Chinese-made FMS Extra 330S EP is EPO foam and retails for $659.99. The Eflite Extra is a bargain in comparison! 😎
That FMS is 2000mm, two entirely different planes. That said, I think the price is fair for what you get. A balsa build in this size would be around 450 to 550.
tjrosenberry - I agree on the value. My point is, I don’t believe this eFlite Extra 300 is overpriced.... I have both the Carbon Z cub and T-28 2.1, so I have no problems with foam.... 😎
@@Alanc419 I have the flex Cessna. One of the best planes I own. I think people just like to bash foamies, yet most people would not be in this hobby without them. Including me, now I'm onto my first gasser.
tjrosenberry my very first plane was a Sig Kadet - all wood construction. I had no clue what I was doing, stalled it in my first turn after takeoff and nosed in. I bought another one (they were kits), built it and hung it from the ceiling in my garage until the Hobbyzone Super Cub came along (a foamie!) and soloed with no problem.. Thank You Horizon!!!
