A contrast shown in this masterpiece of an anime that blows my mind is that how the main protagonist slowly looses his humanity and how the main antagonist (of this arc atleast) slowly becomes a human
Pretentious bullshit. Gon never lost his humanity. Grief and rightful vengeance for the loved ones, the merciless destruction of evil-doers is essentially human.

He kinda mentioned it. When he attacked that palace and killed that fat king, the women there asked him to spare them. He said when a cow or a pig ask you to spare their lives, you don’t do it.
He killed the family for food, just like we kill cows and pigs for food. That is why he brought up humans killing cows and pigs in the palace... He was saying that he was justified in killing them for food, just like humans are justified in killing cows and pigs for food. And Meruem is absolutely right in his reasoning.

@@thelosttomato4020 ik year old, but wanted to say that while physically nanika could easily be killed, keep in mind she's supposedly a mythical nen creature from the DC, and would probably turn into like a spirit form or something after alluka's death and would in all likelihood, easily kill Meruem with her powers shortly after death.
The reason why meruem is perfect is not because he‘s super powerful but because he developed from an apathetic animal into a empathetic human within a day. Which some people struggle with even after 5000 years of civilization.
Meruem is probably the kindest character of all time. Despite being born a monster and to have no compassion to humans, he discovered peace and morality all on his own. Even when he’s the most powerful being and the future of his own species, he gave it up because he knew what he was doing was wrong. I can’t think of anyone fictional or in my own life who would sacrifice that much and turn out good when you were born to be bad. Amazing character
@@denzilhalliday1975 Obito was one of the worst written characters I've seen lol. Him and Sasuke had no consistency whatsoever to their characterisation. Zabuza was a better villain and he was relevant for like 5 chapters.
As much as I don’t like people getting killed(obviously) I like how they show what will obviously happen instead of something miraculous happening because of the plot armor
Despite Meruem's mature appearance he is inside a just-born baby. He has no sense of good and evil, just pure curiosity(which can be deadly with his supreme strength) about all the things around him.
He didn't do anything wrong i mean when humans are killing so many tress, chickens, goat, and all other animals and eating them after cooking, do we then think about the kids of the dead parents or we just say 'delicous!' and when other creatures kill human for food suddenly that's wrong i don't get it.... We kill, eat everything and destroy each other and destroying the earth as well like it or not we are true monsters
It's a pity he didn't have a more miserable death, but I suppose losing something he truly valued in komugi, was a punishing thing in itself. This arc was definitely one of the darkest in anime, probably up there with Berserk. Honestly I'd have wanted adult Gon to fight Mereum, that would have been such an amazing fight.
@@kamenrideroblivion2667 no, because gon was a being of pure violence and revenge, and by that point, Mereum was not, as Netero said, humanity has an endless well of malice, the Ants didn't stand a chance, as shown by Gon giving up his entire life for petty, quit revenge, and Netero nuking himself and Mereum out of spite.

Yes he literally is a spoiled baby who was born into power. And he learns how to become human despite that. That's the point. That's his character arc.
@@salsamancer He didn't learn anything. He's just a farmboy who fell in love with his chicken (Komugi) who developed stockholm. There was no character arc, he was meant to die from the very beginning.
I initially hated this arc because of the power scaling and some random chimera ants taking down hunters like insects. But when the Meruem died from radiation it was one of the most unique ending in anime instead of the typical power up and beat this guy and I loved it.
I think of this arc differently because everyone was forced to face a fow whose strength outweighs anything capable by humans. So they are forced to fight a game of endurance while Netero sacrifice himself to save humanity.
I feel like Gon and Killua never really got the gist of just how cruel the chimera ants were and that's sad imo, because this kid for example is just a few years younger than them and I'd like to have seen them react to this
I personally think that way because over the arc he sees an incredible amount of character development thru his relationship with Komugi, learning about the value of life and kindness, as well as the fact that pure strength isn’t going to always be the answer. That + his juxtaposition with Gon’s own development (since Meruem gained humanity while the latter became more of a monster) is why Meruem is such a fascinating character
I think people forget that originally they were ants and ants dont have a conscience. You combine that with the human ego and you get psychopaths. They cant really help how they were programmed from birth. But ultimately the animalistic side proved to pale in comparison to the human ego and passion. It was only a matter of time for that dynamic to fall apart. Really it showed to be a kind of shackle on the spirit but even genetic shackles can only hold you back so much as you let it

@@polanre8704 gon was psycho from the start at times he is selfish and hypocritical. Gon at first glance looks your typical shonen mc but he is actually alot darker. Meanwhile killua is seen as the dark one but that becuase of assassin upbringing Killiua is actually more softer hearted than gon.
@@timeread3099 How does Killuas upbringing make him more softhearted?
Becuase killua has been brainwashed since he was kid unlike gon who has no excuse for being so dark

My lil brother was watching HunterxHunter about a year ago and this scene was my first time seeing the anime, wanted to watch it and so after all these months I finally started watching and finally watching this scene I had a smile across my face. I love HxH and I’m enjoying how dark this arc is

The fuck this arc was by far the most controversial arc in the series (and in my opinion one of the worse one)
bro think he a edge lord
This when I realized that this arc wasn’t playing around
Meruem: "Humans are monsters who cause war and pain."
Also Meruem: "DIE, INNOCENT FAMILY WHO DID NOTHING WRONG! DIE!"
He never said something like that tho
He kinda mentioned it. When he attacked that palace and killed that fat king, the women there asked him to spare them. He said when a cow or a pig ask you to spare their lives, you don’t do it.
Wait Animals can’t talk
He killed the family for food, just like we kill cows and pigs for food. That is why he brought up humans killing cows and pigs in the palace...
He was saying that he was justified in killing them for food, just like humans are justified in killing cows and pigs for food. And Meruem is absolutely right in his reasoning.

The way they show this so casually, with a relaxed nd curious expression on them, like it's just a normal stroll on a random day makes it feel 10x more darker than it'd be if there were people screaming their lungs out along with villainous music nd expressions.
At that time, Meruem isn't mature enough to understand emotions. He is literally just a few hours old at that time.
This is the kind of ''censorship'' that works well. Although you don't see the tail pierce through her body like in the manga, quickly hearing the thrust of the tail and immediately moving away proved to be more effective and have more impact, at least imo..
The arc where the monsters slowly turn into humans while the humans slowly turn into monsters.

Bad luck Meruem
Nanika has to be told to do stuff, iirc. Meruem would just kill her like he killed this one
Makes me wonder why she didn't run away the moment she saw the other people being killed. Probably polarized with fear
Obviously her face gives it away
I mean most people would be in shock seeings their parents be killed right before their eyes when 10 seconds ago everything was fine
Beautiful, that dark vibes, that beautiful Message behind it!
The reason why meruem is perfect is not because he‘s super powerful but because he developed from an apathetic animal into a empathetic human within a day. Which some people struggle with even after 5000 years of civilization.
Comparing him now to the end of the ark is difficult
This scene hits me alot harder now that I'm much older. Like dammnn
“Obito” maybe

@@kamenrideroblivion2667 no, because gon was a being of pure violence and revenge, and by that point, Mereum was not, as Netero said, humanity has an endless well of malice, the Ants didn't stand a chance, as shown by Gon giving up his entire life for petty, quit revenge, and Netero nuking himself and Mereum out of spite.

Never forget his earlier disregard for Human life is what killed him later, when it comes in form of Malice of Humanity.
I know meruem is supposed to be like this and a lot of people think he’s very well written, but honestly he just seems like a spoiled kid to me who was born with power. He becomes a lot better when netero humbles him.
"Humbles" is a nice way to say "gives radiation poisoning"
Bro saw the future and he was like hell no i won't get killed by a girl fuck that

Alternative title: Meruem meets little girl then viciously slices her head off and proceeds to taste her blood
"Komugi are you still here" 😭
I feel like Gon and Killua never really got the gist of just how cruel the chimera ants were and that's sad imo, because this kid for example is just a few years younger than them and I'd like to have seen them react to this
To this day im not still sure why people say that meruem is a great antagonist
Cause he gives you a reason to hate him?
I personally think that way because over the arc he sees an incredible amount of character development thru his relationship with Komugi, learning about the value of life and kindness, as well as the fact that pure strength isn’t going to always be the answer. That + his juxtaposition with Gon’s own development (since Meruem gained humanity while the latter became more of a monster) is why Meruem is such a fascinating character
And people were thinking it’s a kids show at first
I think people forget that originally they were ants and ants dont have a conscience. You combine that with the human ego and you get psychopaths. They cant really help how they were programmed from birth. But ultimately the animalistic side proved to pale in comparison to the human ego and passion. It was only a matter of time for that dynamic to fall apart. Really it showed to be a kind of shackle on the spirit but even genetic shackles can only hold you back so much as you let it
Yeah it’s like if u took a tiger and put it around children if u think about it’s ngl fault the country should already have strong hunters inside to protect the country
