The relationship between Meruem and Komugi is one of my all-time favorites in fiction. It’s incredible how the power of compassion can change someone. Even a cold, ruthless monster who kills without hesitation begins to show signs of redemption, all because of Komugi. If he had been left alone with her, he might have become a ruler more worthy than any human could ever be.

I started this arch hating Meruem with all my gut. By the end of it I wanted him to win and be the ruler of the world because being fair, his development was skyrocketing and he grew on me. Such I shame that he died
his ideology is a dangerous one but it even garnered netero's respect. he says so himself, "i have to kill him here, before he sways my heart." meruem's ideology of cull the weak but nurture the "strong" is parallel to netero's desires, his unfair and dangerous hunter exams. pressure must be applied to people for them to grow and develop. but king slowly realizes when interacting with komugi that people are tailored to specific things, driven by specific desires. someone like komugi is by all accounts weak and helpless. but she excels at Gungi. how many others had their lives cut short by Meruem before they could find where they excel? is guiding them to their area of expertise his responsibility? is it wrong of him to cull them before they find it independently? the application to real life and society is haunting to think about. those with influence that can impact the entire world, (rich, wealthy, "powerful") could help to lift up people but more often than not become monsters, stunting others growth, lest they have their throne usurped.
Was he evil? His kind were just being true to their nature. Are wild animals or even humans evil because they feed off other animals? Does humankind deserve to rule the Earth over all living things instead of the Chimera ants? Of course humans will fight them for dominance.
