I have speaker wires in different rooms hanging from the ceiling. However, I cannot find where any of the wires terminate in the house. The previous owner either covered the original wall plates or they were cut. Can I use this toner if I only have one end of the wire to find where the other ends could be in the walls or do I really need access to both ends of the same wire? I’m trying to understand if this toner is only to identify wires where you know exactly where both ends are or can it be used to actually find wires in the walls where you don’t know the termination points.
Chances are you have a wall plate with a bunch of wires behind it or a internet panel they are all in usually they are behind a double wide Wall plate sometime in the wierdest place like a closet or laundry room
@@ghostlyrich the utility panel where all of my Ethernet connections, coax, and alarm wiring doesn't contain any speaker wires. We've looked everywhere but no luck. The previous owner could not find it either and the home builder doesn't remember because it's been 12 years since the home was built. I have a feeling the termination for the speaker wires were covered up accidentally and don't know how to locate them
What I'm trying to find out is what the different tones mean. Besides the ones you hear in this video. One of them being this really high pitched kind of waling sound. Plus I'll have ones like the interference sound but much stronger and it might happen regardless where i hold the toner. I can find any place or site that explains it.
If it randomly gets low static but no tone it can mean the line has power going through. The two different tones are preferable if you want a solid tone or siren. If you hear that w
@@ghostlyrich Yes I understand about the 2 options in tones. Those aren't what I'm referring to here. It definitely shouldn't have any power going thru it. This is just a pre-wired 2 conductor security wire for a door. When the heavy static noise started, it didn't matter where I held the probe such as just holding it in mid-air, the static would happen when I hit the probe button. However the static would get significantly worse occasionally as i would search a wall for the wire. I had also used the probe earlier looking for this wire and the static wasn't there at all. Just the occasional high pitch sound and the faint sound of the wire being toned out. (I think the wire is buried pretty deep.) As far as that high pitch whining sound, it seems to be pretty random as it doesn't always do it in the same spot. But the second time I tried toning it, is when the bad static started happening. I think my damn probe is just real moody. Anyways, thx for the response. If you can think of anything else, let me know. Appreciate it.
Ah good to know but lets say you have a 4 pair conductor wire, if you twist all 4 together, then short 2 on the other end, will it still tone the other 2?
Saw those in the Big box hardware stores and was wondering . Thanks for sharing a quick demo. ☺️

Thanks man. Going to try this out on doorbell wire at some point.

The tone changes to that wires slower wavy tone it means either your probes are shorting on each other or the wire is shorted

Would this work on (non-energized) electrical circuit wires behind walls (like 12/2 or 14/2 NMD)?
Yes it should
It won't work if you short the wires?
no , the tone will stop but that's how you can be sure you have the right pair.
Art Vandelay ..well that's what I mean the tone will "stop working"
@@Stephen-lt1tp Well i just found it on amazon for $45 with shipping. I'll tell you for sure next week
I just tested it the tone stops.

This appears to be more sensitive than Kleins model
Is it bad ??
No its better allows to pick up lines easier
@@ghostlyrich Btw does it comes with a case ??
