  • An unboxing of my new Fluke Networks Pro3000 Toner and Tone Probe. Plus a brief explanation and demo of the use of the tool as an efficient way to identify telephone or network cables. This
    is an absolutely essential tool for any Telecommunications or Network technician.
    The Toner and Tone Probe (sometimes called Fox and Hound or Toner and Banana) are mostly used for the identification of cabling. Often times, an existing low-voltage cable is not labeled (or labeled incorrectly). the Toner is used to put an audible radio signal on the copper conductors. Then, the probe is used to help fine the wire in question by homing-in on the audible signal the toner is producing.
    You can quickly scan many 66-block, 110 panels, or patch panels for the sound. As you get closer, the sound will get louder.
    You can use this tool for: Alarm wiring, Coax, Cat5e cabling, thermostat wiring, Telephone wire, or really any copper conductor.
    Advanced technicians, will sometimes make use of more than one toner. This works well when the two toners make different sounds. Having toners from two different manufactures is the best way to do this.
    Notable features from this set:
    - five different audible tone patterns
    - Continuity mode to check for conductor integrity, or short circuit
    - adjustable volume on Tone Probe
    - headphone jack on Tone Probe for particularly noise environments.

    These are definitely useful, although I don't have much of a home wiring infrastructure either (the few cables I have run I made sure to label right away). I've actually found it very helpful in automotive and 120v (with the breaker off) situations in the past.

      Aric, thats very interesting. as a former mechanic I could certainly appreciate how that could really work well for automotive applications. As always, your comments are very welcome here! :-)

    The wand tip in the battery compartment is a replacement. I use the holster.

    not just RF, but AF too (I guess the flukes do it as well) where you can also pick up phone handset to hear tone as well

      good points Ressy. so many ways to use the toner. obviously not enough time in a short video to cover them. thanks for the comment. 😀

    II removed the screw that holds the batteries and replaced it with a small strip of gaffers tape. Not duct tape. Removing the batteries after use prevents the micro drain which happens if left connected. I hate it when the toner or wand doesn't work.

    Your videos are great I really appreciate your articulation. I was wondering if you might be able to give me a few pointers on a problem I'm having. It's a DoorKing intercom 1812 classic I do garage doors and Gates and this particular client as a gate entry door and it's a small commercial building. I usually don't have any issues when I am connecting to a residential setting however this one's a bit confusing.

      Hi Vick,. Thanks for the kind words about my videos. Feedback helps.
      Now, about your Door King situation, I am not sure I could offer much help remotely. Does Door King offer any tech support? I know when I work with Viking devices (door strikes and dtmf relays and such) they provide excellent phone support for free.

      DIY Telecom they don't have the greatest tech support which I'm pretty surprised about do you have a Facebook so we can chat on there

    What is the red and black use for

    • @DIYTelecom
      @DIYTelecom  26 днів тому

      Those red/black wires have alligator clips on the end which allow you to either clip-on to bare wire or.metal posts. It does the same function as the modular plug.

    whats the range away from a cable that it will start generating tone?

    • @DIYTelecom
      @DIYTelecom  6 років тому

      I would say you begin to hear the tone when you are about 10 or leas inches away from the wire. but, with a cat5 or cat6 cable its much less because of the noise-suppressing nature of the design

    How much cable we can trace?? Is it possible to trace for electric cables??

    • @DIYTelecom
      @DIYTelecom  5 років тому +1

      I dont know the exact answer in terms if distance. But for example, I know you can trace a tone through at 22 guage phone wire up to a mile pretty easily (telephone service installers do that all the time). As for electrical wire, sure this would work, but I believe there is something similar that is geared just for Electrical work.
      great question 👍 😀

    • @ajflowz5009
      @ajflowz5009 5 років тому +1

      Yes you can trace electrical wiring, you just have to make sure the circuit isn’t live, or else it would blow the transmitter

    How much does it cost?

    • @DIYTelecom
      @DIYTelecom  5 років тому

      good question! They are usually sold as a kit (toner and probe tool) although you can buy them separately. The kit demonstrated here is $70 USD on amazon amzn.to/2WcVyQ1.
      You can get cheaper ones, but I trust Fluke for this type of equipment. :-)

    why are we not saying RJ45 why are we saying RJ11? is this a telephone port?

    • @DIYTelecom
      @DIYTelecom  2 роки тому

      Hi Leo. RJ11 is a smaller, 4 or 6 conductor plug used in traditional (non-VoIp) telephone connections. 😊

    I would expect something more from Fluke... the noise and the fact that doesn't always detect the wire make it look like a cheap chinese device

      Fluke makes a premium toner/probe that kinda solves that noise issue. I believe it’s called the “Intelli-probe”.
