I had both my medial and lateral meniscus in the right knee repaired almost 2 weeks ago. Had my ACL reconstructed in the same knee 20 years ago. Thanks for sharing this information. My problem is that I'm keen to get going as quick as possible but after this video; I definitely need to take my time if I want to return at 100% (or close to it)
Thank you so much for posting this video! I was searching and searching for a UA-cam video to at least lift my spirits up a little bit. I recently suffered a bucket handle meniscus tear in early December of last year. I had surgery at the beginning of January and I’m looking to get back to my sport as soon as possible. I’m really hoping that I will get back in 6-7 months.
Thank you Dan for these videos! They’re very educational and love how you’re evidence based! I had a question regarding your experience with patients. I just had an ACL Reconstruction using a hamstring graft + Lateral Extra Articular Tenodesis and Medial Meniscus bucket handle tear repair. The injury occurred about 6 years ago, but never had issues with weight training or pain despite having a full ACL Tear and medial meniscus bucket handle tear. Only, occasionally I would get buckling with pivoting or change of direction. Eventually my knee got stuck to where I was forced to undergo surgery. I’ve seen your other videos where based on research if you wait more than 3 months it’s a 58% chance of success. From your experience with patients is this actually the case? I would greatly appreciate your professional feedback!
Thank you Brian! So basically speaking on whether how long you wait for surgery reflects your outcome? How long after the recent locking incident did you wait for surgery?
The initial injury was around 2017ish. My knee locked and got stuck on 3/15/24 and my surgery date was on 5/16/24, so it was about 2 months which gave me some time to prehab my knee prior to going into surgery.
I am assuming that the study only used grade 3 tears which are full tears or big partial tears. However, in the case of meniscus related grade 1 or 2 knee sprains how long is the recovery timeline including the return to sport phase?
Good question, I’m not even sure we have those answers but I’d imagine much faster generally. These return to sport times are for surgical repair, and I don’t think grade 1 and 2 are operated on.
Depends on a lot of factors. Make sure you talk to your doc. This should also help When Can Patients Weight Bear After Meniscus Repair? | Knee Surgery - Ask FPF E:26 ua-cam.com/users/liveRSQ3Z3jYq1I?feature=share
I am 6 weeks post-op from a large bucket handle tear. I’m still having trouble with ROM, especially extension My knee was locked bent as the tear had flipped upside down, I wasn’t able to have surgery for over 30 days. I’m becoming a little bit concerned as I have done everything by the book physical therapy at home exercise, etc. is this normal?
I had menucus repair 7 weeks ago , worked on my mobility after 4 weeks I can now do more now than I could b4 it got damaged,
Good work! Sounds like you made a good choice.
You telling me I can squat twice I could before I got damaged??? Say less
Very well explained and supported! I love your video.
Thanks so much glad you liked it!
I have 5 months of meniscus tear. Now I feel I'm 95% good.
I'm doing easily my daily routine work 😀.
Great news, sounds like you’re moving in a good direction.

For sure, you can make it! Find a good PT and be diligent and you’ll make it happen.
Any better? I had surgery in March and I’m getting discouraged.
@@jennadamota8156 I had mine in Feb. Don't rush back into the sport when you start to feel better. I did and made it worse.
Thank you for this video 😭
You're so welcome!

What about medial meniscus flap tear it was cut and shaved how long before running , jogging, heavy weight, and sports?
Was it a Meniscectomy or repair? Easiest way to get this answer is to talk to your doc or physical therapist
How many months it takes meniscus repair comeback to sport
Depends a lot on the individual surgery and others factors but 6-12 months generally
How long until return to just walking with brace?

How fast Can I go Bach to physically work
It depends a lot on the tear, surgery type, surgeon preference, how well physical therapy goes and what your job is.

Hard to say not doing an eval on ya or knowing the surgery etc. I’d just send that message directly to your surgeon and ask. Can’t hurt to be sure

Don't worry you can go back to sports but take minimum 1 year rest.
