If a native still has trouble with it…..
The most simplified way to introduce/practice vowels and work on class/tone at the same time. You took very complicated and intimidating aspects of Thai Language and actually made it enjoyable! This should be the standard for all Thai Language courses for English speakers! You did a tremendous amount of work in one hour. Thank you very much!
Good job
I have been studying Thai for almost 6 months and this is the best explanation of the vowels structure I have ever seen. Thank you!
The explanation is really good, thanks jack !
This video really deserves more recognition!
We have to repeat these in the kindergarten and elementary class a thousand times So keep practicing.
That sounds like a lot😂😂😂❤❤❤
what's the difference between อึ and เออะ
Ok
i forgot all of them tbh

Thank you so much 🙏😁
Omg thank you so much, when I study with other videos it got me so confuse but this video really a helps me a lot and whenever I try to quests the vowel with the consonant IT WORKS! I was so proud of myself😭 thank you so much for your teaching!!
The knowledge you deliver in this 1 hour is beyond level. Thank you will be under statement for this.
I am a native Spanish speaker and I must say that personally for me the Thai language is easy to learn, maybe it is because some sounds are similar to my language.
oh my god, creating this video takes so much effort! you're the best, Teacher Jack! thank you so much for this video!!!
you have the best videos for introducing the consonants and vowels! Its to the point, comprehensible and focus on writing and clear pronunciation! Thank you for posting such a great resource :)
Wow! Honestly the vowels are the hardest part for me and after watching your video I think I am getting the hang of the sounds. Tones are my absolute weakest point, so I really like how you broke it down without making it too complicated!
Thank you teacher, very appreciate for your teaching.you are a great teacher.❤❤❤
Well-detailed for one hour.
I finished the video somehow.
Love it.
The thai vowels will take a long time to learn and pronounce. I would recommend a video by Stu Jay Raj Thai vowels. He explain them in a very easy way and easy to remember. He explains it in a very simple way based on the position where the sound comes from in the mouth and how the vowels connect:)
I can't thank you enough for recommending that video. THank you so much
My favourite teacher
I started learning thai not long ago and the vowels are pretty much the hardest part! But thank you so much for this video! It might be little confusing but it helped me a lot!
Amazing explanation of a very tricky subject. I'll be watching this over and over. Thanks so much.. .

would like to see this in your udemy course also 😊 very informative
Hi Jack, do you have a chart of these vowels along with its pronunciation and writing that we can download for easy learning and reference? Thanks so much!
Aku masih belajar huruf Thai
I wanna learn Thai Scripts and the language as well♥️
You could do a video comparing similar vowels. Sorry but: _ึ and เ_อะ ( _ื, เ_อ ) are the same to me,
also โะ and เ_าะ ( โ and อ).
thanks anyway i love you 😁😁😁😛😘😘😘😍
เ◌อะ / ◌ึ- can't understand their sound difference😢
Thanks Jack. I have watched this twice so far and expect to watch it more times until I get it all. I made a set of flashcards based on this video and am in the process of memorizing them. I have a question about this word ฟิสิกส์. It's pronounced fisiks and means physics in English. What is the symbol above the ส at the end? I'm sorry it's so small. It looks like the number 6, tilted 45 degrees clockwise. Also, what is the symbol above the kor kai in the word เก็บ?
Can you give any tips on how to get the hang of all thai sounds?
Do you provide a certificate after the completion of the online course?
This was an amazing class. I am still a little confused about how to know which tone goes with each consonant vowel combination.
This instruction was top notch. So clear. Perfect pace. Perfect amount of repetition. I literally just started studying Thai on my own after a visit there. I agree with this commenter though about the up, flat, and down with other constants besides the 3 covered. But I’m sure I’ll find that.
Let me answer your question. I'm Thai and hope that my comment will help you to understand more Thai language. Actually, you can combine each Thai consonant with all vowels. However, not all consonant vowel combinations will have the meaning. Thai consonants are divided into 3 groups which are up, flat, and down. The main purpose is not to put tone marks into wrong group. Tone marks make different intonations in wording. However, without tone marks, each consonant also has their own tone. When combining with vowels, the sound of word mainly comes from the sound of each vowel, but the tone might be different between each word even using the same vowel because of the different in tone of the consonant itself. Hope that these explanations can help or may be more confusing Ha Ha Ha.
26:10 the part i most remember, just like Korean "saranghae" without ng sound 😂
The part I still don’t understand is how do we know which tone the vowel sound uses based on the initial consonant?
How do we get the falling tones, you haven’t mentioned those.
loved the writing exercise with the lesson the pace was fast to initially write and listen but once i got my notes down listening to the lesson again was better it is hard to discriminate the tone difference he makes it is like I hear him say low tone but his sounds to me don't vary enough and are similar I wish I can hear someone else teach tones and compare the two to better distinguish tones.
second and third duffer only in tone. I have no idea why separate consonants. Besides, the two do not consistently keep the same pitch. 😢😢
Great video. But so sad linguistics came so late behind writing.
Take this one step by step and repeat....many times 😂
I wanna know about the sounds of tones. I can't speak out the spelling sound clearly and well😢
It is really similar to Indian❤ Hindi vowel.
Trueeeeee....
@@lovely-zd2wi yes🙂
hi thanks for thelesson it is really comprehensive and easy to understand. However, i'd like to know how you decide the tone to go up, down, or flat based on the pairing of the vowels and the consonants? Is there a pattern/system that we can follow? Thanks so much.
I have the same question
You can check out the tone table that I made, you will see the tone rules explaining why the tone goes up and down. : drive.google.com/file/d/1ZSA6bZIfxaaRKPeS2hW44W2nMU7QvAY-/view?usp=sharing

may I ask what is the สระเปลี่ยนรูป (inherent vowel) for this short monophthong vowel "เออะ"??
the inherent vowel of "เ-อ" is เ-ิ
เกิน read as ก + เออ + น > gaern
but there is not the inherent vowel for "เออะ"
"เออะ" has no final consonant.
I still cant if it is Juice Jù or chocolate Chù??

Four vowels are so confusing. Sara am ํา , Sara ai ใ, Sara ai ไ and Sara ao วา because I must apply the rules of the long vowels but they seem to be short ones.
How do we make falling tones.
To make a falling tone, you can think about throwing a rock. Start from your normal speaking pitch, then raise it slightly before letting it fall, similar to throwing a rock upward and watching it come back down. Another analogy is going up a hill and then coming down. Begin slightly higher than your normal speaking pitch and then let it dip down at the end of the syllable. Why does the kaw kwaai become a rising tone when the vowel is low tone and short?
Actually, it's a flat tone. Sorry, my fault. I copied it from the word 'kăo,' but I forgot to delete the diacritic on the 'a,' so เคา = kao. Thank you for pointing out the mistake. I'll pin this to let people know about it.
the last summary have wrong spellings?
06:10 --> why does kaw kwaai give a high tone to Ka in this case?
low class consonant + short dead syllable = high tone
@@filipinojalapeno1527 I think I need to learn the consonant classes then...but thanks so much :) I will get this one day.
The word “sara” meaning vowel: which vowel is “sa” in “sara”? You show the word sara written in Thai but I don’t see any of the 28 vowels used in the sound “sa”? Is “sa” in sara a consonant???
In Thai, there are both visible and invisible "sara ะ" in words. Let's take the word สระ (sa-ra) as an example. It consists of two syllables. The second syllable, "ระ" (ra), contains a visible sara ะ, which is seen and pronounced as "ra" with the full sound. However, the first syllable is where the invisible sara ะ. Even though it's not visibly present, it combines with the vowel "ะ" and is pronounced as "sa," producing a half sound. As a result, the word สระ (sa-ra) has two syllables: the first syllable with the invisible sara ะ, pronounced as "sa" with a half sound, and the second syllable "ra," pronounced with the full sound. This occurs because the word is borrowed from the Pali language.
need help i dont have clue to begin from where?
If you're unsure where to begin with learning Thai, don't worry! Here are a few steps to get you started:
Start with basic phrases and vocabulary such as everyday expressions, greetings, and useful phrases. This will help you in practical conversations and interactions and familiarize yourself with basic pronunciation. Learning the sounds of the language will help you build a strong foundation.
Immerse yourself in the language: Immerse yourself in Thai culture and media, such as watching Thai movies, TV shows, or listening to Thai music. This exposure will help you become more familiar with the language and its nuances.
Stay consistent and motivated: Learning a new language takes time and dedication. Set aside regular study sessions, practice consistently, and stay motivated by setting goals for yourself.
Remember, everyone learns at their own pace, so be patient with yourself and enjoy the process. Good luck on your Thai language learning journey! :)
What runs through my mind is that compared to Thai, French is easy! Next is, Thais can never get away with the lazy way of native English speakers never studying how the language works, because there’s so little grammar!
Yup. I had 4 years of French in high school and a year (largely repeating the first couple years of high school French) in college, and because it uses largely the same alphabet as English, it was easier to get up and running. With Thai, there's a whole new alphabet to learn.

Why we do complicated when we can do simple
Stressing out coz im trying to learn Korean,Japaneses,Thai,ASL,BSL and French so my college resume doesnt get skipped(i also play a piano, recorder and marimba) and i wanna learn the violin
It’s good to study Thai language, maybe extraterrestrial speak Thai 😂 I’m joking
He always say "vow" instead of "vowels"
If you have spent anytime learning Thai you would understand that Thai has no final L or S sound. Therefore it is difficult for them to pronounce these sounds. If you have any trouble making any of the Thai sounds that are missing in English, you would be more understanding.
Thanks!
Thank you so much 🙏
