A group of us went to Hakone in 2016. There was an earthquake. The ropeway was shut down. The onsens at the top of the mountain were closed. The train/tram only went part of the way up. Buses were provided for the rest of the way. Thankfully our hotel was open. (we reserved months in advance) Despite all of that, it was fantastic. We took the pirate boat also. I went to the Evangelion Store.
Looks a really good pizza - in the red, white and green of the Italian flag. Bit soggy on the bottom though, you should be able to pick it up and eat it, no forks required.
Ah yes.Pizza, the traditional food of Japan!😀 I always enjoy your videos,I find them very relaxing, and you allow me to visit places I can't go otherwise.Safe travels!
Oh, my goodness! I can understand how the crowds would make you exhausted! I'm sorry that such a beautiful view was ruined by rude people. At least you can get home in time to have a nice relaxing meal before bed!
Fun fact tomatoes are not originally from Italy or even Europe. They originate from the Americas. Tomatoes were not introduced to Italy until the "discovery "of the new world. So around 1500.
That was some pretty class Italian food for Japan. Pizza needed a bit more draining of the tomatoes but not bad and probably just felt rushed. Good Italian food is rarely fast lol. So weird to see rude customer service people in Japan a country that is pretty well known for their insanely good service. Especially in such a tourist draw.
Sorry to hear you had an awful experience at Owakudani. My boyfriend and I went to Hakone in late May this year, and our experience was also mediocre overall. So many tourists! We went the opposite way for the round course - Owakudani first, then the pirate boat. Owakudani was nice, and we saw Mt. Fuji peeking through the clouds. But it was very windy, cloudy and chilly. One of the pirate boats was in repair, so there was only one boat in operation, and it was terribly delayed. A packed boat on a windy cloudy day… ugh. The food was great though. Our favorite meals were at 808 Monsmare near Hakone-Yumoto station for great Italian, and Shinkoi (しん鯉) for delicious teppenyaki and monjyayaki 😋
Sorry to hear you had a bad experience in Hakone. I was there in december 2022 on my Honeymoon and me and my wife had a blast despite the chill and windy day. If you liked the food we wait for you in Italy, anytime you want.
That was an expensive "Freepass"... lol I have to say with all the garbage that comes with being an adult, having ice cream first is a pretty cool perk. Edit- sometimes I wish I could experience the first taste of something amazing twice.
When there is a line and people waiting, do they give you a time limit to eat? I've noticed in a few videos, the patron would be given a time limit. Is that with a different kind of restaurant, or for just getting everyone fed in a timely manner?
Depends on the restaurant's policy; some do assign a time limit to allow as many patrons in as possible, some don't. Usually the patrons themselves are aware of it and would try to finish their meal as soon as possible as a sign of courtesy.
I've done the Hakone tour a couple of times... years ago, when it was less crowded. Even then, there's just plain old not enough time in a day to get it done. You pretty much have to sacrifice eating local food or anything; get a sandwich from a convenience store beforehand and carry it with you.
Nice! I have subscribed also to this channel of yours! A question: which is, in your opinion, the best "famous onsen location" to book a few night in between Hakone, Yufuin, Beppu and Kusatsu (the three locations I will surely visit or stay close to) in my upcoming trip to Japan?
A tourist spot with staff that treat tourists like creatures? Can't say I'm surprised lol At least you got a beautiful view before the verbal abuse from the staff
So very touristy. I’m sure the staff find it tiresome themselves if they are so rude you won’t return. The views and the sunset were beautiful. You may have preferred the food at the Italian Restaurant but the bowls at the first restaurant were so unique adding to the atmosphere. The Italian Restaurant seemed so plain.
STJ, don't blame you for being pissed!! If the area closes early, there should be signage! Yes, Rude to be yelled at to get out of the area. Beautiful sunset, at least. Too bad it wasn't on the way back down if you get my drift! As for restaurants not being open late, not much for tourism!!
I’m sorry they where rude and yelled at you STJ - that was not okay! I liked that you ate sugar before having food, and I couldn´t agree with you more - that´s okay when one’s an adult 😊
I am shocked at that treatment of you, I was under the impression that it was very rude to disrespect visitors. I suppose you give some people a uniform....... That ruined your trip. We enjoyed seeing you enjoy all the lovely food, and that is the most important. Thank you STJ for more real content.❤❤🏴👵🌹🌹
I also wouldn't recommend visiting Hakone, at least not any time soon. I just came back from a trip to Japan and Hakone was a terrible experience (my trip was otherwise lovely). We went on a weekday and it was incredibly difficult to find somewhere to eat (ended up just getting a snack from the 7-11 near the Hakone Yumoto station). Because it is such a popular destination for tours, the types of tourists there were really rude and formed tight packs across the round course. The staff were also incredibly rude at Owakudani and at the base of the cable car (Gora?). The only things I enjoyed there was the hot springs at Hakone Yuryo resort, and the delicious rusks I bought from a store near the station. The round course was a massive disappointment.
It feels like this will become the norm at more popular tourist spots: rude staff create rude tourists. I remember being with other tourists and they were "guiding" tourists by grabbing them by the arm or pushing them (especially women and teenagers) and forcing them to walk a certain way while constantly saying the direction? Like huh?? It's pretty obvious to go to the left when in a line lol
The yuba-don must have some basis for popularity -- could you tell us what that is? Some regional or historical interest? The yuba itself you say is tasteless; this makes no sense. Why such a long line for tasteless food?
Was a bit of a nightmare trip. Huge crowds, long wait times, sub-par expensive meals, and treats. Then, to top it off, rude ass staff. The rude staff was a tad shocking, actually.
Wow shame on them for yelling at you. Even if something is closing thats no excuse to treat someone like that. Certainly wont make it a desirable place to visit if they cantceven maintwin civility at closing time. Im glad the food and sun set were good at least.
So, the food was pretty bland, it was crowded, and the servers were impatient to get off work. There was your noticeably dank but tasty pizza to enjoy...noted STJ, noted.
As someone who's lived in Italy for more than 30 years, let me tell you that Pappardelle dish they served you has nothing to do with Italian cuisine. First of all pappardelle are LONG pasta (like spaghetti and tagliatelle) not those chunks in the middle of that mess. I give that "Italian Restaurant" 0 stars.
Rude Staff is not what anyone wants, sorry to hear. It wouldn't happen on a Sunflower Cruise. Pizza in Japan,it did look nice. Hello from Downunder 🦘🦘🦘🦘🦘
You’re so funny. ‘Forever’ 😂
Hi from the UK. Love your videos.
Great job! I really enjoy your channel(s). Thank you for posting 🎉
What a beautiful sunset as you rode the ropeway!
I'm sorry, however, that they were so rude as the crater site was closing.
Thanks
Thanks for the super thanks
Another great video. Thank you 😊
Loving the outros😊
Im watching this at nearly 2am after not long being home from work. My mouth was watering for the food.
Beautiful Fujisan at Sunset!🗻
Stunning scenery.
Amazing trip,and food
How cool, there were fellow Germans in the bus with you 😊 I love your videos. I’d love to visit Japan
流石 箱根です。素敵な景色と自然に癒される。🎌⛩🛖🚄♨🌋♨🚃
The sauce for the pappardelle reminds me of Ragu Alla Genovese it’s popular in Naples
Pizza looked really good too
Great video STJ!!!
Safe travels, STJ!♡
Always enjoyable. Thank you. Blessings from Texas,USA. 👍😊❤
plz more long travel videos plz luv from dubai
The food looked amazing and so did Mt Fuji! That’s why I hate crowds, it makes everyone on edge and crabby but thank you for a great video 😊

Real Neapolitan style pizza is eaten with a fork and knife anyways, so STJ-san is just eating authentically ✌️
@@yukwahchu337still, it could've been a bit crispier on the bottom, that flop was a bit of a letdown!
Yay!
Nice
Ah yes.Pizza, the traditional food of Japan!😀
I always enjoy your videos,I find them very relaxing, and you allow me to visit places I can't go otherwise.Safe travels!
Happy Thanksgiving
To you, too. 🦃
To sum it up it makes sense to book a room at an onsen hotel there for a night or two. In this case you can rest away from the crowd at least.
Love it. Will use the information for my trip to hakone
I don't even understand why people WANT to be rude. Being nice and kind is a benefit in itself, it's just fun to be nice and isn't difficult at all. 🙂
good
Weather looks perfect. In September, it was cloudy and misty when I went.
You are an inspiration, STJ! I am on a plane to Japan 😮❤. I can't wait!!! Tokyo, here I come!!!
I love hakone!
The scenery from the ropeway is stunning. It's a shame you were treated so rudely-that's inexcusable. It did look like the food was good, at least.
being Italian, I can say that pizza is 100% correct. I was quite surprised 😊
Wow. Never seen STJ be so upset with somewhere, they must have been really rude!
Agreed. STJ is very polite and professional.
Oooooh, I was shouting “BOTH” and was sort of sad when I saw the pizza. Imagine my surprise when the pasta made an appearance too. Good boy! Hahaha!
I'd love for you to experience shojin ryori restaurants! it'd be interesting to see your opinion on it.

I think we’ve all been there “Never doing that again!” Well, at least the pasta was great and oh that view of Mt Fuji - thank you for sharing that.
That was an expensive "Freepass"... lol
I have to say with all the garbage that comes with being an adult, having ice cream first is a pretty cool perk.
Edit- sometimes I wish I could experience the first taste of something amazing twice.
That pizza looks amazing and I'm stuffed 😂
My family has a saying that I, on occasion, still adhere to: "Life is short; eat dessert first."
Yay!!! Food video!!!
More food video!
MORE OR VIOLENCE!!!
Would you ever consider doing travel videos outside of Japan?
When there is a line and people waiting, do they give you a time limit to eat? I've noticed in a few videos, the patron would be given a time limit. Is that with a different kind of restaurant, or for just getting everyone fed in a timely manner?

Pickles & ice cream sounds disgusting, but it's absolutely delicious!
Something similar to...chocolate & salt.
These things pair very well!

Is it a thanksgiving day?
こんにちは!箱根でイライラして疲れる時間を過ごしてごめんなさい。ピザとパスタは美味しそうだった。間違いなく待つ価値があります。別の素晴らしいビデオをありがとう。😌🙏✨

I love how Italian pizza made in Japan is sliced like American pies.
Sounds like a frustrating day with good food. Is autumn a very busy time for Hakone tourism, or is it bad all year round? I'm surprised 😳
Hakone is almost always crowded. Maybe not in mid winter.
There's no place like home. It's where the curry is! I have such admiration for your stomach. The gelato would have stopped me!
Suddenly hearing German in the background made my ears twitch XD. I'm not even German... but I do speak it.
5:44 They taunt you with a large bowl and a small dollop of rice.
Crowded plus rude people are an awful combination.
At least the food was good! The sunset was beautiful as well.
I wanna hear more about the second Gelato flavor. Quatro formaggi, really? Doesn't sound appetizing.
I’m sorry they where rude and yelled at you STJ - that was not okay! I liked that you ate sugar before having food, and I couldn´t agree with you more - that´s okay when one’s an adult 😊
Thank you for braving the crowds and the lines for us! It was beautiful, yes, but ... yikes.
Nakita ko.nayan in hakonen1985 with papa tagami.

Wow, the staff must have treated you incredibly rudely. For a Japanese person to say “sayonara” is implying quite the finality!
The staff is local Japanese ?
Wow. Terrible customer service. So rude!!!! I’d NEVER speak to a customer like that!!! ❌

I seriously why it’s so crowded it’s beautiful
me on google reviews @ the ropeway: 1☆ they were mean to stj >:3 would not recommend
Was a bit of a nightmare trip. Huge crowds, long wait times, sub-par expensive meals, and treats. Then, to top it off, rude ass staff. The rude staff was a tad shocking, actually.
STJ, please promise never to eat Margherita Pizza with a fork again. Please. 😁
Both Italian dishes looked really good. But the Yubadon looks incredibly boring.
In my opinion, that pizza looked horrible. It’s not supposed to flop over when you pick up a slice 😂
Wow shame on them for yelling at you. Even if something is closing thats no excuse to treat someone like that. Certainly wont make it a desirable place to visit if they cantceven maintwin civility at closing time.

what ?? no curry ?!?! 🤣
the italy restaurant iss toooooooo much expensive --- the prizes are double than standard
Very sorry people can be so rude!
That pappardelle looks like prison food.
I am professional Thumbnail designer.if you need any type of thumbnail.i can make
The pizza is way too soggy
pizza. ☹️

What's the only thing worse than tofu? Tofu skin. BLECH.
Tofu's great! Dunno what you mean~
Tofu skin with sushi rice is really tasty. I'm not crazy about plain tofu though
Yuba is great!
