Remember when Putin first deployed 100k soldiers to Ukraine's boarder? People said he was going to invade Ukraine, what did Putin say? He said they were just doing some training and he has no plan to invade Ukraine. Couple weeks later he invaded Ukraine. I hope you understand why Finland don't believe Putin?

They needed a war in Europe, that is to be expected. The collective govts of the west are all beholden to US, NATO.
This isn't about sovereign rights, the moment you join a military alliance with a superpower, you becomes the threat to another. That's why they create a state of neutrality, so you don't have to choose a side.
Can you imagine if Cuba and Mexico chose to join a Russian military alliance? You think USA will sit quietly? We know how it all ended back during the Cuban missile crisis don't we.
The Finnish and the Swedes claim they don't trust Russia, have they ever wondered why the feeling is mutual towards US?

a) Nato members can decide whether they want Nato bases on their territory or not by themselves and
b) there are no US nukes in eastern Europe, cause fun fact... the US actually kept it's nukes in the places they were in 1990 to not threaten Russia.
c) Nato is a purely defensive alliance. If Russia doesn't intend to invae it's neighbors and would coexist peacefully, they wouldn't have to fear anything.
